Foxshade
Hello all, I've been a mini gamer for 20+ years, and I had an interesting though the other day. Let's roll back about 9 Years or so when a game call Mordheim came out. Now, the one thing I can do really well, ... Is hype up and get people interested in mini gaming. So, I found getting people who have never mini gamed before, interested in Mordheim was relatively easy. $60.00 or so, and your up and running. Many of those people later expanded to warhammer and spent small fortunes. So, ...Mordheim was the gateway drug. Now, try, ..... I DARE YOU, ...try to get some one interested in warhammer, and describe all that is involved and to start playing with you and your other gaming friends. I would guess, ......$600 and up to start?....and you can't really play for a few months as you need to assemble them? Not gonna happen, and I can no longer even recommend WHFB to new players. Let alone all the imbalance, outdated armie rules.....etc. I'm kinda jaded right now. Can ya tell?...lol There's no real gateway drug for WHFB, and me, and many other mature games are dropping warhammer in droves. Anyhow, Malifaux came along at just the right time, and has all the right recipies to be the perfect gateway drug, and has the room to expand. * low INITIAL starting cost *beautiful models *very interesting rules *packaging and presentation * tons of room to expand and spend money once the hook has been set~! So, ..here's a big thank you to Wyrd and it's creators who have single handily saved mini gaming for me. I already have 4 others super interested, 2 of whom have never mini gamed before. Cheers~! Mike3838
Although even though it's a gateway to the hobby, I don't believe there's any need to later move onto other larger (eg. GW) games. Malifaux blows them all out of the water! Mike
Guild Monkee
I agree with Mike that it is enough on it's own. As a reformed GW player, although it has got me back into the hobby it really has made me see GW games in a very different light and I certainly won't be going back to them. Although the low initial cost of Malifaux soon goes out of the window, it still works out a lot cheaper than the larger scale games and you don't feel rushed to get things painted because of the sheer volume of stuff. Hallelujah brother! I was totally same, I really liked GW but when i saw Malifaux I realized what GW is doing wrong and they wouldnt change. I hate that you must spend hundreds of buck to start a new army because army youre playing is obsolete or gets a bad armybook so you must wait years until you get a new one....bleh never again. Foxshade
Yup, You all summarized my feelings. maybe I did'nt emphasize enough that, I agree that Malifaux does not need a bigger next step~!
Wolfgar
After laying out the cost for paints and assembly stuff, I may wind up branching out into some other similar games.
col_blitzwell
i still play Warhammer40k i still find it fun even though malifaux has become my new game of chose. i thinks its because i have spent so much money into it they if i stop GW wins. as they took my money and fun. i stop playing in tournaments even if they are small and local. it seem i still am a GW puppet. :collodi :marionette GW me side note games work shop army i own space wolves(8000p and still going) daemons of chaos(1500) and sisters of battle that right 2000p of them and chaos are on there way. Keltheos
Blitzwell, although Nathan probably doesn't want me to say this (wink) it is okay to like more than one game.
dsmiles
Blitzwell, although Nathan probably doesn't want me to say this (wink) it is okay to like more than one game. I certainly hope so. I still enjoy the occasional game of WarmaHordes.
