Neverata
Knockout?!?!? For a 2 dayer?!? Interesting... Yes imagine that Craig I thought about doing something a bit different for a tournament that's a bit different Watch this space [..............................] (yep that space there)
Clousseau
I suppose knockout could work with the top 8 from day 1 playing each other, and then the bottom 8, so you are playing people of a similar level of competitiveness. And those of us in the bottom 8 can have a fun (more fun) day! Need to take care that people don't play the same person too often!

Dave, thats the idea 1st will be paired with 8th for the first round etc and then knockout from there. But like i say, it's in the making at the moment to make it as enjoyable and as varied as possible
Kaine
Out of curiosity, is the invitational, a ranked event in itself ? Edited October 11, 2011 by Kaine

Calmdown
Knockout?!?!? For a 2 dayer?!? Interesting... Double Elimination works well here too, so a 2 dayer is more likely to be an actual 2 dayer. Or at least a really good night out on the Saturday for the people who tank. pharaoh
Well, interesting to see that the same 5 people are having the debate here as for the entire UK scene. I guess that like the whole rankings introduction the rest of the 'community' have learned that the fait accomplis has been delivered and so they may as well ignore it or accept it. Entirely underwhelmed.

Entirely underwhelmed. The mistake is to believe there is one 'right' way to enjoy Malifaux. If you don't want to participate with the part of the community that enjoys ranked/competitive events that's fine. However don't expect those of us that do to stop having fun the way we want to just because you don't like it. I wouldn't dream of telling you to stop playing Malifaux however you do it now. So please do us the courtesy of returning the favour. It'd be far more constructive for you to run and participate in the kind of events you like, then we're all having fun with our toy soldiers. That's my 2p. Edited October 11, 2011 by mythicFOX SPAG

Entirely underwhelmed. I've never spoken for the entire uk scene, and like James says, I don't tell you how to game so either come and meet us face to face and see we are nice people loving our hobby or extend the courtesy of letting us game as we wish The uk doubles and team GTs next year are unranked, I'll look forward to seeing you there supporting some unranked malifaux will be a good year for malifaux

mythicFOX
Same clique, same difference. Same troll, same single line of venom. CalmDown came to the Northampton event at the weekend. After three games and a lot of beer down the pub afterward he found out this 'clique' people keep accusing us of being is just a welcoming bunch of people who like to meet up and play Malifaux. Come and meet us Fenrir, or organise an event and we'll come and meet you. No reason we can't all just get along.

The thing I will say to this is a none troll way as I like to try and be constructive. Is if it is about the socialising, meeting new people and playing a few games, then why does rankings need to be in the equation which could alienate a portion of the players. On the 40k scene it is infuriating to see the tournament scene has gotten to a stage where the first question on peoples minds to decide on attending an event is "is it rankings" purely because they want to extend their online i'm amazing ranking ego instead of the above of just playing a few fun games which ultimately what miniature gaming is all about. Heroine, hoorah The singles GT is ranked this year to see how it goes, the other events non ranked to see how that goes! Diverse and different is good. And I'm open to ideas and suggestions at every twist and turn. Let's see how they both go I for one am excited for next years tournaments. Cunning
More than just a few beers I fear....there was also a jagerbomb..... There was also a lost hour, a redunkulously expensive taxi ride home and the saving of the X-Factor. How could anyone not enjoy an evening like that? Calmdown
Err, I turned up at the Malifaux tourney in Northampton having a) had voiciferous arguments with MythicFOX at the very least, and many other members of the forum never spoken to any of these people before We had some chats at gaming tables and at 5.30, went the pub, stayed there for 7 hours. It's only a clique if people are seeking to segregate people. I dont think they can be accused of that (and I'm aware that they now includes me). I dont honestly think I've been involved with any bunch of nerds in my years of nerdery that tried to segregate people, honestly. Most nerds are welcoming. We all share a slightly unusual common interest after all. And the fact that I know them wont stop me disagreeing with the stuff I disagree with them on, so where's the problem? In which case its "set yer own events up" I didn't say it was venom so why is that getting directed at me? I have no control over other people's posts or opinions. I can only focus on what I'm doing and try and cater for everyone (not an easy task) I'd like for you to give an unranked GT a whirl Fenrir, I really would. And we aren't a clique, just a bunch of people from across the UK just having a laugh. Which I'm happy to do with both newbies and oldies. I can't please everyone but I'm certainly trying to and will continue to try and run all kinds of different events

Then that's cool Sometimes I agree that myself and a few people i know post things in haphazard fashion, but I don't say things with an intent to influence or belittle but I can't speak for anyone else on that front I'm already running some fun, unranked Grand Tournaments, is there anything else that you'd like to see happen? I can (hopefully) make some magic happen Edited October 12, 2011 by Neverata Adam reeve making me paranoid
