ThePandaDirector
Well we've seen a few avatars now and I have to say I have had the most mixed emotions I've ever had with minis. When I first heard of avatars I thought "cool, something new", but I never really liked Pandora's old avatar, because I've always liked natural poses and sculpts, i.e. I hated the idea of a flamethower model actually having sculpted flames on the flamethrower. This because I like to imagine a model in both fighting and natural stances as it's hard to make a model leaping through the air look like a sleeping guard but far easy to make the stretch with one in a simpler pose. So when I started seeing the models I thought "oh cool, these look fun to paint, but some are just silly" It was a moment of excitment that turned to disillusion. I liked Seamus, he was cool and something fresh for his crew, but Pandora and Justice were as far from natural as possible. Pandora especially looked silly with the tentacles and that energy stuff frozen in mid air.. How can that look anything more than a miniature? Then something changed. I thought.. or more imagined, the sight of avatar Pandora on the tabletop, the size of the miniature and how good it looked well painted, then I thought "what if I put it there.. what if I had painted it.. what if I'd bought it" and suddenly my view of how I like my miniatures changed and I started to get shivers up my spine at the thought of avatar Sonnia, consumed by a flaming serpant, surrounded by foes, all burning to death. Wyrd quite literally changed my opinion of what I like and don't (harder than you think). Now I have to say I don't like avatar Marcus, to the point of potential loathing. His arms look awful (they need to be seperate from the body for one thng), his back is too straight and his pose is about as dynamic as the awful GW TK Sphinx. But that's one miniature, and you can't please everyone. And so all I can say is Wyrd.. I hate you
Fetid Strumpet
I also have mixed feelings on the avatar miniatures. I love how interesting and cool certain avatars look, like Lady J and Pandora. However I can't even imagine trying to transport them around to use on the table. They are just asking to break, or if made of resin, shatter. Other Avatars like Seamus aren't as visually interesting as the previously mentioned avatars, but they look much easier to actually see use on the table. DAGabriel
My way of thoughts nearly exactly. After a "wtf...", came a it reminds me of this one i never dared to buy (budget and wife) and even if i would have been afraid to try it, "The elementals fire", here by pzcreations:
nilus
I think your problem in part was assuming that Avatars have a natural stance. Avatars don't sound like the type of thing that just walks down the street and hangs out.
dgraz
I don't think you tryin' to find no job. I seen you the other day Standin' on the corner Leanin' up against a post.
ThePandaDirector
I think your problem in part was assuming that Avatars have a natural stance. Avatars don't sound like the type of thing that just walks down the street and hangs out. True, but then Avatar Seamus is what I'd call natural, like Ice Golem, even Snow Storm. But then I - usually - don't like it when a model is modelled with an excess of non-material features thataren't a natural part of the mini i.e. smoke from vents, fire from weapons, etc, it's always been off putting for my imagination (I like narrative battles). Wyrd has changed this view by making minis that are soo out there and cool that I can't help but dream of them being on my tabletop as well as my paint station. CannibalBob
I have yet to see any of the avatars that really looks overly difficult to transport. They will just require a larger foam tray like most 50mm models. Cut out the foam to fit the model and you should not have any issues transporting. Of all the avatar models so far the only thing that has looked fragile is possibly the snakes coming out of the box on the pandora miniature and the Lady Justice avatar. The tentacles on the base of the Pandora model look pretty thick and I think it would take some conscious effort to bend them.
twenty4seven
That don't confront me long as I get my money next Friday.
Brandu
Now next Friday come I didn't have the rent, and out the door I went. Now to stay on topic: Lady J is going to be a nightmare to transport. Pandora, probably not much better. Marcus... well, suffice to say, I can still make my Lady giggle if I mention that mini.
