The spell taxidermin' says "discard a corpse counter within 6" or sacrifice a friendly outlet. Summon one stuffed piglet." The rules manual says "models may only use and/ or discard counters they currently carry or that are on the table if they have the appropriate characteristic or a talent or spell that requires the counter at the time its use is indicated."

So my question is does the taxidermist have to have posession of the counter before he can cast this spell or is the what is referenced by the " appropriate characteristic or a talent or SPELL...?"

if it says within 6 inch he doesnt have to cary it

if it just said, "discard a corpsecounter" he had to be carrying it

More specific rules on an ability override the general rules. So in the case of the taxidermist since his spell says within 6 inches, he does not need to be carrying it already. He just can't use a counter that is being carried by someone else within 6".
