edonil
Lack of inspiration is a killer on any project. ---------- Post added at 07:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:13 PM ---------- So, how was your day, Chris?
bowchikawowers
all things considered actually pretty good. waiting for mom to get home so we can bring groceries in and go to the gym. painting in the mean time. highlighting is not as much fun as shading was... edonil
How are you going about doing it? One brush stroke at a time or drybrushing?
Mako
But highlighting is where it all comes to life! Is a bit of a pain in the proverbial, though. Yeah, only sculpts I have any inspiration for are the dragon and Sophie herself. And I know that one needs time taking. And may have to be at least as big as Lucius, or I may be abandoned for a while!
bowchikawowers
I tried dry brushing and I didn't like how it turned out, so now I'm doing it one stroke at a time.
edonil
Sophie wants you to sculpt her? Man, I'm glad I can't sculpt, I can see Elle wanting to do that... How much were you thinning the paint for drybrushing, Chris? ---------- Post added at 07:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:28 PM ---------- Welp, just ordered the Hailkin...hopefully can get to work on this sooner rather than later. bowchikawowers
im thinning it to milk consistency like mako said
edonil
Ah, that's your problem. You don't want it that thin for drybrushing. It's a different technique, after all. I don't thin paints at all for drybrushing, honestly.
Mako
Ah. That's for painting, drybrushing it wants to be thicker. But then again, I never really got great results from drybrushing, so I always go for the paint it on approach ---------- Post added at 12:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:37 AM ---------- Heh, ninja'd by Ed. bowchikawowers
Ed is a sneaky ninja. I've never been a fan of dry brushing in any form of painting. I'd rather just paint it on anyway.
edonil
Honestly, I've found the best way to do drybrushing is a size 2 brush that's been attacked by a pair of scissors. You don't want a point with drybrushing, you want a broad surface.
bowchikawowers
i have brushes made that shape. don't need to attack any with scissors.
edonil
My perspective on drybrushing is the same as any other- it has its uses where it is superior. Doing weathered metal or feathers, for instance, drybrushing can create a more natural appearance than blending. ---------- Post added at 07:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:46 PM ---------- i have brushes made that shape. don't need to attack any with scissors. Really? What are those called? I haven't seen any flat top round brushes before.

Mako
Hmmm, good question! I think I finished the crashed ship, I need to finish up the APC, sort the rear door out. Then it's all the infantry, which is 15-20 of them...

Mako
On, it's quite small. Six inches a side at most. Eventually, I'll build more segments I reckon.
