sithkhan
So as I was investigating the other acrylic additives out there, I found this. If this has been covered before, or is not really a good thing, please forgive me. I am not a very good painter, and need all the help I can get that is not labeled Devlan Mud. I thought I might use it as an ice effect on the Golem and Gamins, and maybe for some sequin effect on the Showgirls. If you have used this and know it is too much over the top, please save me before I destroy an innocent primer job. Thanks!
Sholto
Sorry, bud - no idea what it's like. Definitely one for a test model, first.
LoboStele
Interesting....I just got a Raspy box set for Christmas, and I know there's a place right around the corner from me that carries a bunch of Winsor and Newton stuff. Might have to check it out and try it on one of the Gamin or something.
NewbieFromHell
I've got this stuff, it works ok, but i've only "played" with it, its really thick and once watered down the Iridescence is pretty lame. not expensive to play with though, i'm gonna use mine for my ice pillars
the imp
It's finely ground mica suspended in acrylic medium. It'll give you a little bit of a shine on whatever color you use, but it will probably look a little grainy; kind of like metallic paints. I considered using it for my vespid kill team project, but ultimately decided that the effect would be too subtle.
LoboStele
Yeah, for individual models, I would think that maybe just a pearlescent top coat may be more what you're looking for. But this does sound like it might work nicely for snow-based terrain stuff. I may have to pick up some, since I just got Raspy and need to make some ice pillars for her. Omenbringer
I used the stuff for my skeeter wings here: As you can see the effect is a bit subtle in the photos but much better in person. It does have a tendacy toward thickness right out of the bottle so I do recommend thining it with either some gloss medium (which helps with the effect) or adding some ink/ wash/ or glaze for color (I used Devlen Mud and Gryphonne Sepia on the above). Because you are thining the irridescent medium you are going to need to use a few coats (however it will give you more control over the final effect). For what you are looking to do it should work well on the show girls but might not produce quite the right effect on Raspy and the crew. If you are looking for realistic ice on them I would look at Wood Land Scenics Water Effect instead.
