Mercenary Addition

I am moving (very, very slowly) to a new Ressurectionist crew: McMourning. However, I am doing so from a very, very "hand friendly" place. Much has been written about Jack Daw and ressers, but to be honest I'm not a huge fan. I'm leaning more towards the Freikorp Librarian. I did, however, want a second opinion (or two) on how the Librarian pares with McM.

I have never played with the librarian, nor have I ever even seen it played, but when I read the rules on it, I immediately thought of it as more of a large SS game type of model.

The healing and abilities seem really nice, but I don't think I'd ever use it in a 25 SS game. Especially with McM, where you are paying extra for it, it'd be a big chunk of your crew. The healing probably wouldn't be as effective in a small game as just including a heavy hitter or two more small guys.

But like I said, I've never even seen the librarian played, so...

I personally wouldn't take it with McM to be honest. It will cost 9 ss which is a lot just to add an additional card to your hand. I have not played with the Librarian yet, but it also seems like she is a little bit of a card whore as well. You need to discard a card just to activate her, and it will not always be the lowest card you have since you will want it to match for casting purposes, you will need to discard a card to furious cast, and you will probably have to cheat at least one of those spells. I am not sure who you have played in the past, but I find combat armies tend to need less cards then casting armies. Casting tends to be more suit specific and you need to cast and cheat without seeing what the other person is going to do, so you sort of need to tip your hand early. I like to keep most of my high cards for McM, so using so many with the Librarian seems more of a burden then a boon.

It really comes down to: What do you want her to bring to the table and can you get it else where, plus what is it worth?

i don't see how she can complement Dougie at all really. He already ignores armor, the extra card you get must be discarded to activate her. He can already heal himself and other models if necessary. I can't justify a 9 point model that has DF 3 and 6 wd. I think she works fine in a Freikorp crew, but can't see what she brings to the table for a rezzer.

Again reiterating that, he is also a Resser and in my time of playing them...if something gets hurt, I usually don't care.

'Specially with the Frankies, they are more bullet magnets than anything else, and they do their job superbly.

As for the extra card, McM...until/unless they shaft him out his SS...he has 6...SIX!!!

That's more than anyone else starts with and you usually don't need them for saving his arse with mitigation.

I usually use them as a guarantee to either use Rancid Transplant or when I am all done with my AP and my final one is to finish someone off with a 10 Dg Dissection.

Also I tend to use his healing flip quite often unless something squishy is in range of Scalpel Slingin'...or I really need another Frankie...or the RN.

All in all, I wouldn't take the Librarian...that's just me.

I don't usually like Mercs because I am a firm believer in the saying

"Don't fix what isn't broke"

and if you want range....you shouldn't be playing the Ressers
