Maniple
I would like to build a haunted mansion setting for Malifaux and am looking for some inspiration. It will be easier to build one if I have some pictures of an actual mansion to work from. The Carson Mansion in California looks pretty good, but are there any other ideas out there? supervike
Well, I can't turn away a fellow Iowan! Not sure exactly if this will help, but it's given me loads of ideas: http://www.haunteddimensions.raykeim.com/index107.html There are free downloadable 'paper' models to build, which is the way I'm going to use them, or you could simply convert the plans into the building material of your choice. Here's a link directly to the models....Definately 'haunted mansions'. http://www.haunteddimensions.raykeim.com/index301.html
Sezar
I would go for Shellendrak Manor, from Worldworks: Clicky! There is also an add-on with more stuff for it!
the imp
Hearst Castle is one of the more famous mansions in the US. The Winchester Mystery House is more the speed of Malifaux if you ask me though.
Maniple
Here is my first mock up of the mansion. The proportions are not quite right, but I am getting there. It will be three stories plus a tower when done. The trick will be making it big enough to be impressive but small enough to fit on the board when the levels are taken off. Right now most of the rooms are around 5"x5." but I will probably dowsize them a bit.
Svenn
I keep seeing this thread and every time this is all I can think:
Maniple
Is there an Eddie Murphy mini out there somewhere?

Maniple
I spent my Thanksgiving break working on the mansion. The superstructure is mostly done. The detail work will likely take a lot longer. My plan is wooden and tile floors, carsideing, wainscoating, wallpaper, and furniture (a bit). For now it is looking fairly rough, but more to come! The 1st Floor: 2nd Floor Rising: Ugly barn stage: With a little work on the eaves she is startig to look scary:
Omenbringer
This is going to be an epic piece. The only danger I see is that it will favor the melee masters a lot (especially Lilith).
Sebo
This is going to be an epic piece. The only danger I see is that it will favor the melee masters a lot (especially Lilith). I was just thinking that. Also, what about aura effects, and other things similar that don't require LoS?
Omenbringer
A few house rules should do the trick.
Sezar
Auras and Pulses shouldn't go through walls, and specially not from one floor to another, imo. Blasts could break walls if they were strong enough, but still not affects more than one floor. One problem I foresee is that with so many stairs up & down and room hiding, you could need a few more turns to start the action and get your objectives done. Maniple
Here is my first crack at some house rules. Terrain Flip: Black Joker- Flip 2 more cards 1-2- Cache of Tomes 3-4- Wetbar 5-7- Dim Lighting 8-9- Growing Fire 10-11- Disturbing Whispers 12-13- Howling Voices Red Joker- Player's Choice Terrain Rules: Exterior walls are hardness 6. Interior walls are hardness 3. Doors are hardness (edit)3 and can be (0) opened and locked with interact (1). Windows are hardness 1. Auras and Pulses do not pass through intact walls. Blasts can break walls if strong enough. All other interior terrain rules apply. Game Rules: "Confined Spaces" All combat strikes are made at -2cb. "Creaky Floorboards" Models may make ranged attacks through walls at -3cb per wall separating attacker from the target. "Get Upstairs!" All characters inside the house receive "(0) use stairs or dumbwaiter to move up or down one level." "Secret Passages" Before the game begins, players alternate placing (edit)four secret passage counters anywhere in contact with a wall. All ht 1 and 2 characters may "(all) move from one counter in base contact to any other counter. Optional Rule: Bad Things Happen- If any model flips a black joker while inside the mansion, the opponent flips on the following table. effects are resolved at the end of the current activation in the room where the model who caused the flip is standing. Black Joker- "The house is hungry." The model is removed as a casualty as the house devours him completely. 1-2- "The house is angry." (edit)The model is pushed to the nearest wall and receives 2 damage. If shortest path contacts a window, the character breaks through and falls to the ground outside taking fall damage as normal. 3-4- "The house is displeased." Objects begin flying around the room causing 1 damage to all characters. 5-7- "Nightmares of days gone by." The character who caused the flip makes a terrifying- 14 duel. 8-9- "Weak floors." The character who caused the flip falls through the floor to the level below. If on lowest floor, reflip. 10-11- "Collapsing beams" The character who caused the flip receives "Paralyzed" until the end closing phase. 12-13- "Come play with us." The character who caused the flip is immediately moved to any other location in the house by the opponent. Red Joker- "Eerily Silent." All models in the room receive "slow" until the end closing phase. Feedback and ideas are most welcome. Peterdita
I built one. wasn't very gaming friendly though. Used the paper kit Vikey linked but uped it @ 20% I think. Looks like you've got a nice start on yours already though!
Omenbringer
If the doors are harder then the walls then it encourages players to just plow through the walls rather then try the doors. Perhaps reverse the hardnesses.

Peterdita
very cool. I'd echo softer doors as well. Hope it comes out all creepy and scary.
Velsharoon
I take it when you play you will play it in "exploded" mode. MY FLGC are talking about making a 4*4 table for us all to use, but it wont just be for malifaux. I wonder if they could be persuaded tho... Maniple
If all laid out close together it is almost equivalent to a 3x3 board. I hope to get a few test games in before I do too much more work on it. I could forsee playing a few different ways, especially concerning deployment. To get the action moving I think the parties will have to set up on a single floor within one floor of each other. Objective marker placement will also be important. Another potential is to set the house up complete in the center of the board and confine the battle to the first floor and surrounding grounds. Finally, one party could start anywhere inside and the other party can start along any edge of the board. Updates made on rules post. Keep the ideas coming!
