redarkham
Does anyone have any tips for making swamp bases?
Bellygrub
I did mine using green stuff. I smoothed a ball out over the base and used the end of a brush to make small indents. For bubbles I'd roll out a ball of green stuff. Water effects and inks give it it's swampy finish. Nothing fancy but it got the job done. Omenbringer
The terrain thralls link above is how I do mine. Love how they came out.
alemon
Bellygrub I like that : ) They look cool, but they're simple enough that I can give it a try.
gregdorf
You could also use the bayou base inserts.
greenstuff_gav
for Mine i used cork coasters broken up to fit, then cut balls of greenstuff in half and glued 'em down

I never used balls of GS, due to cost, but I have used different sized bearings and beads in the past on bases for gas bubbles...
Bellygrub
I got my greenstuff from a hardware store. Plumbers putty. It's the exact same stuff everyone else sells but for half the price and twice the length. Sadly Home Depot keeps putting the local Mom and Pop stores out of business so I may have to resort to the modeling version soon
The Madman
I like using the plumbers putty as well DARK AGE (found at coolminiornot.com) makes some really nice sculpted swampy bases

Kneadatite (Greenstuff) would be cheaper this way also, or more readily available. I buy mine from an aussie online store for 3' its about $30, less than half GW/Hobby prices. At my local Bunnings [AUS] you cannot get it and they dont know what it is, however, there is an alternative that sets relatively fast (<5min) called Kneadit by Selleys. It is toxic, so wear gloves or wash your hands well afterwards, but it is great for sticking things down or adding depth and detail to bases before flocking. Chev Chelios
I followed the tutorial on TerrainThralls and made the best bases I have ever done. Kudos to TerrainThralls and Scarab!
kbdrand
Which tutorial did you follow? Nevermind, I found it. That is one cool tutorial. Lots of good ideas. Edited September 13, 2010 by kbdrand
AvatarForm
+1 Terrainthralls, except this stuff is known to most modellers and hobbyists. Its only more recently you see gamers taking a real interest in this. I guess the spread of information is due to the power of the Internet. Hope you guys go onto bigger, better things... dont stop at gaming bases.
