Justice vs Zoraida (starting boxes)

It had been a long chase into the Bayou to run down the troublesome Resurrectionist and the light was fading fast. One of the Marshals had spotted a small building on a patch of dry ground some way back which would serve as a useful place to hold up for the night. Just as the building came into sight the bog went silent except for the croak of toads. With nowhere else to go the Marshals readied themselves to fight.

Justice Box Set vs. Zoraida Box Set

Terrain – a hill in each quarter diagonally opposite and forests in the other quarters with a small building on one of the hills. The Neverborn had the quarter with the building.

Justice had the Assassinate strategy and declared the Hold Out and Stake a Claim schemes trying to grab the one building on the table.

Zoraida was seeking to Reconnoiter and declared the Bodyguard scheme whilst secretly trying to Breakthrough.

Turn 1

After hexing a silurid so he could safely scout independently to the left, the remaining silurids bounded forward at a rapid pace to take cover using the forest to their right and were immediately joined by Bad Juju. The Death Marshals responded to the approaching group in force with Justice heading off towards the lone scout.

Turn 2

Justice quickly showed the lone silurid he had edged too close and promptly destroyed him in a show of inspiring swordplay. Bad Juju took the opportunity to move up in an attempt to landslide two death marshals but was unsuccessful and was consequently targeted by them, seriously weakening him. The remaining two silurids then both entered a blood frenzy to double team the Judge and take him out of action avoiding any retaliation. The Hag took flight to catch up with her minions.

Turn 3

Juju grabbed the initiative to remove the Death Marshal who had been unimpressed by his terrifying nature and then survived the retaliation only due to an unfortunate twist of fate. However the remaining Marshals managed to finish off the golem and another silurid. Frustrated with her minions Zoraida then created a small Death Marshal Doll and had him shoot Justice in the face.

Turn 4

The remaining silurid thought himself relatively safe in combat with the Marshal until his ally calmly and accurately shot into combat and laid him low. Justice was focused on the mission and ran at Zoraida, who again pulled the strings of a Marshal but was unable to hit. Juju returned behind the Marshals.

Turn 5

Despite last turns attempts to block Justice’s advance with her voodoo doll, Justice charged into the Hag with a mighty swing, forcing the Hag to rely on a soulstone to lessen the impact. The next swing again had Zoraida reaching for a stone and left her on only one wound. Thankfully her repulsive nature allowed her to escape from Justice and begin a retreat towards the building. Meanwhile the remaining Marshals dealt with the returned golem with ease.

Turn 6

The voodoo doll threw itself at Justice jabbing her with its needle to try and keep her busy whilst the Hag went to try and contest the building that one of the Marshals was also running for. Justice dealt with the doll but could not get the range to the quickly vanishing raven that was once the Hag.

As night properly fell Zoraida was assisted by her invisible servants to ensure the Marshals could not claim the building.

Draw

This was my first game with a full crew as have only played small 2-4 figure skirmishes to teach rules previously. Immensely enjoyable and looking forward to the next one. Upon discussion afterwards, we recognised how many different options and approaches we may have taken to try and secure the win. My opponent also really enjoyed it and I would probably have hooked another regular opponent if it wasn’t for the fact that they live 1000km away and were only visiting.
