nilus Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 Well it's 22 days till Gencon and I am going to attempt to have a Guild Death Marshal's crew painted by then. Day 1 Assembled and ready to be primed. Executioner is currently on a temp base till I can get to my FLGS and pickup a 40mm Graveyard insert. The Judge's hat came from a reaper Hats and Helmets pack. blkdymnd Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 judges hat looks really slick. Looking forward to the progress Quote
WEiRD sKeTCH Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 If you want, I have one extra from the 40mm Graveyard inserts. Since I have one for my Executioner already. I'll bring it to the store tomorrow. Quote
Keltheos Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 Love that hat! Looking forward to seeing your progress. 22 days? Crud, I'll never get anything done in time. Quote
Peterdita Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 Amazing the crap you can find on Youtube... (exactly how much IS google losing on this site?) [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CZSnSEOat4]YouTube - A rather boring video of a clock ticking[/ame] Quote
nilus Posted July 21, 2009 Author Report Posted July 21, 2009 Well day one had its first set back. The primer I was using ran out but lucky for me I had a 2nd can(I was putting a grey coat on these guys). Apperently the can of grey I had was bad or old or something because it came out thick and chunky. I didn't notice it till I hit them with the second coat. Anyways gonna have to give these babies a simple green bath and try again with a fresh new can of primer. Quote
blkdymnd Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 Ack! bad luck... at least it was at the first stage and not somewhere down the line where you had to start over Quote
Nathan Caroland Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 Have to admit, the hat does look nifty on there. Quote
EricJ Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 yeah, time to start selling Perdita's hat as an individual bit so people can convert everyone to have nifty hats Quote
Silmarilias Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 Yes that hat does look good just like it did in the pic of the original master in the chronicles !! Quote
nilus Posted July 22, 2009 Author Report Posted July 22, 2009 yeah, time to start selling Perdita's hat as an individual bit so people can convert everyone to have nifty hats Hat's for All! Booooo!!! Very well, No Hats for anyone! Booooo!!! Hmm... Hats for some, miniature American flags for others! Yeah!!!!!!!! Quote
WEiRD sKeTCH Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 I wonder who gave him that hat idea... I wonder... : Quote
nilus Posted July 22, 2009 Author Report Posted July 22, 2009 I wonder who gave him that hat idea... I wonder... : LOL, Technically the Wyrd e-zines. But yes me and Weird chatted about adding a hat and he mentioned the Reaper hat pack. So I would say the idea is at least partially his. But just Partially(no more then 25%). Quote
WEiRD sKeTCH Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 I'll be putting a hat on my Judge as well. He looks better with it than without. Quote
TheLemondropDan Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 If (when) I pick him up, he's not staying hatless, either. Quote
nilus Posted July 24, 2009 Author Report Posted July 24, 2009 Here is a pic of my Lady Justice in progress. Man that girls got a lot of hair. Still very much a work in progress, but at least I got some paint on a mini. I went with brown for her hair. Its a little lighter then I wanted, but I plan to hit it with some dark wash. I was shooting for a more raven haired look, but I've found in the past that if I just started with black as a base anything I used to highlight made my models look like they had grey hair. The choice of purple and green was just because they are colors I rarely work with so I figure I would give it a try. Quote
mechaace Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 Looking quite nifty. And yeah she does have a load of hair, I'm discovering this as I'm at that stage of painting my Lady Justice. Quote
blkdymnd Posted July 25, 2009 Report Posted July 25, 2009 The back of her is real easy with all that hair though, theres not much else to worry about painting Quote
PolishSausage Posted July 25, 2009 Report Posted July 25, 2009 Dam, Nilus got some mad miniature-photo-taking skillzzz, now I need you to take some picks of my stuff. See you wednesday at g+ Quote
AoM Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 (edited) Have to admit, the hat does look nifty on there. And once again, I'm wondering why you decided to go without the hat, as I remember the original art and green having the hat, guys. Can't wait to see these painted. As for the hair, when you're doing black, the highlights need to be very tight, and it helps to use a touch of blue or brown, rather than greys, before you get to the extreme white shine. nilus Posted July 27, 2009 Author Report Posted July 27, 2009 I am finding the camera to be a unforgiving assistant in painting. The bastard shows me every little defect and error I make. Anyways some more work on Lady Justice. Quote
Silmarilias Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 Try using a light blue or grey background that is graduated if you can as white for a background is quite strong . She is looking pretty good so far . Quote

She is looking pretty good so far . Thanks, I am still experimenting with minature photos. Still trying to get the right apature and shutter speed combo and playing around with backgrounds to see what brings out the model best. Quote
nilus Posted July 28, 2009 Author Report Posted July 28, 2009 She just about done(to my not so high standards). Quote
