Skya Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 In case any were curious here's the back up piece I was working on for the color purple IP round. Quote
Hinton Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 That's pretty cool; love the hair on her. Quote
v22TTC Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 I was curious, as it happens (always). That embroidery piece on her knee is so good that it almost feels wrong. How can anything really be that good? Suppose my only crit would be that the great bits (most of it) are so good that they accent the less good bits and make them seem a bit lacking in comparison (skin particularly). Thanks for sharing! Quote
Skya Posted March 25, 2009 Author Report Posted March 25, 2009 Amusingly that embroidery piece was the easiest thing on this to paint. It took an hour or two at most. And yeah, the skin on this one's a bit lacking. That tends to happen when I'm given silly putty arms at 54mm scale and I have to paint on the definition. Man I wish I'd taken some pictures of her just in the gray primer I received her in. I mean she literally has no neck. It's as if the sculptor was thinking her hair worked like a frieze and and he could just use the "background" to show that it existed. Everything past the point on her jaw under the ears is just roughed in. Not to mention that I had paint on the collar bones and the muscular definition on the arms which got washed out by the lighting. I'm pretty sure I failed at my goal on her hands.. Meh. Ok done ranting now. Gonna go paint a Tom Meier piece to make myself feel better. Quote
v22TTC Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 Rants are a thing of beauty! Yeah, you can plainly see that the sculpt's deficient in many ways but I didn't know who did it or what the person's relationship with you might be so kept my mouth shut. I've seen enough of your work to know that you can paint skin. Quote
Skya Posted March 25, 2009 Author Report Posted March 25, 2009 Mmmm and because I just realized that for some reason it only linked to the small photo in that shows up in the gallery, here's where to find bigger pictures: http://wyrd-games.net/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=2714&ppuser=222 Quote
Wren Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 The paint work is lovely. Gorgeous hair, pretty purples and that embroidery is pretty amazing! Definitely suffers from noodly looking arms, which must be even more annoying to work with at a larger scale. Did the piece come with furniture and the rest of the scene or are you building that up from scratch? Quote
Doll Face Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 Verry nice job ! Hairs and dress are verry well done. Quote
Duende Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 Is she supposed to be sitting on something? Her legs look oddly shrunken... Quote
Skya Posted March 25, 2009 Author Report Posted March 25, 2009 She'll be sitting on something, but I wont be building it as she's a commission piece for a guy who uses puts together displays of toy soldiers in scenes like feasts and tournaments ans such. I'm pretty sure he commissions most of them including the scenery and then puts everything together to his liking. Here's a link to his collections. The three links on the bottom left are the displays I'm talking about. Quote
PaintMinion Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 I've seen this as she's worked on it, and yeah, it's one of the suckiest sculpts she has had to do yet. Still, I think you did wonders with it! And I'm glad the hair turned out. ;-) Quote
Skya Posted March 27, 2009 Author Report Posted March 27, 2009 Where would I be Sue, without you to tell me while I'm painting why what I'm doing with hair doesnt look quite right? Quote
