Breten Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 (edited) Yeah, that's right, another one. It's slow at work here right now, and I'm actually working on figures at the office. I just got a couple shipments in, and I've vowed to get a few things done for GenCon. And I have to get some HellDoardo stuff painted in time as I will be running demos, and everyone wants to use painted figs. So anyways, here's what I own from Wyrd inluding a huge batch of stuff received this week. Perdita - assembled, based & primed Francisco - assembled, based & primed Santiago - assembled, based & primed Nino - assembled, based & primed Papa Loco - assembled, based & primed The Executioner - unassembled Convict Gunslinger - unassembled Marcus the Beastmaster - unassembled Sabretooth Cerberus - unassembled Myranda - unassembled Razorspine Rattler - unassembled Zoraida the Hag - unassembled Silurid Slaves - unassembled Mire Golem - unassembled Elemental Gamin - for the girlfriend's Rasputina and Ice Golem (she's excited about the Eskimo) In addition to the Wyrd stuff, I have to finish a HellDorado Immortals box set, and some Mercs. I've also told AoM I will play a game of Wargods with him, so I am hoping to have 2000 points of Wendigo painted as well possibly finishing one of my Infinity armies, and Alkemy Avalonians and Aurloks. Right now the Immortals are my priority, as I want to have them assembled, if not primed for a couple games on Sunday. Then once those are assembled, I'll be moving onto assembling that back log of Wyrd miniatures. Then I can focus on painting for the next couple of months. I've set myself a moratorium on purchases, nothing more until GenCon, except for the HellDorado Immortal release due this month and the Sarrasin release next month. No new purchases until some stuff gets painted. I'll get some pics up of the WiP this evening. edit: forgot the Convict Gunslinger Edited March 21, 2009 by Breten Quote

Breten Posted March 21, 2009 Author Report Posted March 21, 2009 All righty, so here's the first picture guys. Just a shot of what's in the queue for now. This may be a bit long as I'm just kind of throwing thoughts out for what I am planning. So on the top row we have the Wargods of Hyperboria Wendigo. Snow Witch, Chieftain, Shaman, 2 units of 7 Warriors, and a unit of 6 Hunters with a converted Hero. Not pictured is the Snowbeast, as he's currently on my girlfriend's desk, getting some green stuff. Her talents with green stuff are far beyond mine. I do her bases, she does my puttying. On the bottom at the back you can see the assembled Wyrd Miniaturesd Ortegas SKirmish Group that I purchased at GenCon '08. They have been assembled based and primed and are long due for some paint. Behind them are the sewer bases, though I still need to nab the Medium ones. I sold Lilith's Skirmish Group to a friend, though I really want to get those again as I love the Nephilim model. Next to those, is a GameZone Dark Elf Sorceress on Pegasus. I really don't like the current Dark Pegasus, and this one is really cool. Next to that is an Avatars of War Dark Elf Hero, I've already assembled the Sorceress for my GW Dark Elf army. Still got lots to paint for that army. Vampire Counts too, and Tau and Orks. *sigh* The big box would be the HellDorado Immortals, which have a little work done on them so far. Only some cleaning and a little assembly. More of that after dinner. Finished assembling 200 points of Mercs last week, and my Sarassins are half painted, the starter is complete. And I've saved the best for last. The bottom row, left to right is the Mire Golem, Silurid Slaves and then Zoraida. I'll probabl save those for last as I really want to go all out on some Swamp bases, so I need to take some time on them. Up next, the Convict Gunslinger, then the Executioner, which is frikkin' awesome. I really like that model, it's got so much character, and kudos to the caster. I think I may be saving him for a painting contest, maybe for GenCon. The Helldorado fig (Nazir ibn Hamid ibn Hajjad) I entered at last years, and didn't even make first cut, but it's a good feeling seeing a model of your own displayed with people like Jeremie Bonamant and Marike Reimer. Anyways, after those would be Marcus, Myranda and the 2 beasts. I really like those guys and am looking forward to seeing the next Beast model that comes out for them. With any luck I'll have these assembled by next Sunday and I can try out the new Beta rules, instead of just reading them. To the left of the work area, in the picture is my Army Transport Battallion, currently housing my infinity Combined Army & Yu Jing, HellDorado Saracens and Mercs, and my two Alkemy armies, Avalon and Aurloks. Those are all ready for paint, and I am done the Saracen starter, and almost done the Aurlok starter. My goal for GenCon is to try and have at least the Aurloks finished for Alkemy and an Infinity army, but that's a tough choice as I also have PanOceania and Haqqislam. So anyways, that's my first Blog post, off to get some dinner, and get working on some assembly. Quote
TheBugKing Posted March 21, 2009 Report Posted March 21, 2009 Rocking! Keep us posted! Many hands make lots of motivation! (To horribly butcher that saying!) Quote
Breten Posted March 21, 2009 Author Report Posted March 21, 2009 All right, so I watched a couple movies this evening which means I got some work done, as I tend to watch movies. Watched The Promotion with Sean William Scott and John C. Reilly, which was pretty good. One of those dark comedies where the characters are leading sad lives. Then I watched College, which is one of those typical teenage comedies. Good looking earnest kid, fat funny kid and nerdy kid go looking for good times. Had it's moments. But anyways I worked on the Immortals this evening, and managed to get them all pinned to bases and started the bases with some Acoustical Grade Cork. It's a bit on the thick side, but I like it. We've got some local guys that think it looks ridiculous, especially in a whole army, as it looks like all the soldiers managed to finid a single rock to stand on. What ever looks cool works for me. The Naga Priestess is going to be a bit of work and I want to finish assembling her so I can center her on the base. As it is I can play with them on Sunday, but my goal is to have the whole lot primed by Saturday night. It's 1:17am as I write this, and I'm done for the evening. Off to read some Green Lantern comics and get some sleep. Quote
Breten Posted March 23, 2009 Author Report Posted March 23, 2009 So I got a little work done over the weekend. On Saturday, I finally watched Quantum of Solace, which was pretty good, and then I tortured the girlfriend by putting on the horrible Event Horizon. Great movie to build models too, because it's so bad, but could have been so much better. I finished assembling the Naga Priestess, which was a bit of a pain. If anyone gets her, make sure you drill the pin holes in the arms before you attach the torso to the tail. If you do it after, you're screwed as the tail gets in the way of where your pin vice should be. Frustrating. I also managed to finish off the Lemure, one of the Farmers, and the female Master of Blades. She was very frustrating as well. Her right arm joins at the elbow, and there's not much depth to pin the arm. Sunday we have our weekly gaming/painting demo day at the LGS. We usually have about 10 tables pushed together, where you can come in and paint and build models, all paints, glue, etc, supplied by the store, though many of us bring our own stuff. We have an average of 10-15 people that come by for painting or gaming. Here's a couple photos from back in June to give you an idea: So on Sunday I finished off the Officer for the Immortals, as well as the Carrier of Souls. I didn't managed to get any gaming in, but I helped a couple guys through a game of HellDorado, the first for one of them. Bought a couple booster packs of the I CHomp NY Monsterpocalypse expansion and mostly sat around. We went from a nice warm day on Saturday, to a foot and a half of snow on Sunday. Weather changes like that tend to make me a litle tired and give me headaches so the brain wasn't up for too much. Quote
St. Anger Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 Good to see that someone got some progress done this weekend... Our LGS doesn't allow for painting in the store... I think that they had a bad accident occur previously... Quote
Scorpio Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 All right! We are up to 5 now! I'm still buying lottery tickets! Have to win sometime! Quote
TheBugKing Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 Good to see that someone got some progress done this weekend... Our LGS doesn't allow for painting in the store... I think that they had a bad accident occur previously... You should behave better Anger. Then perhaps the LGS would allow painting again. Using open bottles of paint to demonstrate monkey's behavior is apt to make any LGS adopt that type of policy! Quote
Breten Posted March 27, 2009 Author Report Posted March 27, 2009 Stupid back buttons on mouses. Anyhow, finished assembling the Immortal starter last night after swinging by a LGS for some new Monsterpocalypse figs. Love that game. Should get the basing done tonight, and then they'll be ready for priming. Then onto some Wyrd figs. Quote
St. Anger Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 Then after priming , you have to start painting... Quote
Breten Posted March 31, 2009 Author Report Posted March 31, 2009 (edited) Yeah, sadly I love the assembling aspect the most. And since my eyes have gotten worse I have a tougher time painting. Stupid aging. I did finish assembling all of the Immortals, haven't finished their bases yet though. Also trying to stay away from War of the Ring. Couple buddies are doing forces up. If I can do it through trading, it'll happen, but I can't justify spending cash on it. I have far too much unused metal in my collection. Wargods & Confrontation, I am looking at you. Breten Posted April 7, 2009 Author Report Posted April 7, 2009 So I got some work done this weekend. I started painting the bases on my HellDorado mercenaries and a few of the Saracens I have left. Hoping to get some more time in on them soon. I also did some work on figs for War of the Rings. I am managing to pick things up off friends and through trades. So I assembled a unit of Eaterling cavalry, including converting one to have a banner. And then I painted up this Isengard Troll for use with my Easterlings. He's tabletop quality, whixh for me, means no greenstuffing gaps, and sometimes missing mold lines. I just want to get a pinted force on the table with minimum effort. Tonight I'll be doing up the bases and movement trays on the Easterling Cavalry, and Ringwraith leader. After that I am going to start assembling my Wyrd backlog. Quote
St. Anger Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 I really like the look of the shield... Nice work! Quote
Peterdita Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 Troll looks great! especially the shield. Keep it up! Quote
Breten Posted April 13, 2009 Author Report Posted April 13, 2009 Thanks guys. Got some more work done overr the last couple days. Got some work done on my Hel Dorado Blades for Hire. I've also painted up all the bases, trays and horses for my WotR Easterling Kataphracts unit, and Kamul's horse. On thursday night I managed to get some work on my Vampire Counts army as well. Finished gluing on 40+ skeleton heads, and managed to get their bases flocked. Sadly GW has changed the composition f their sand again, so my new package is a completely different consistency than the previous batches. Sadly it makes me mad as the bases don't look coherent. Breten Posted April 30, 2009 Author Report Posted April 30, 2009 So I haven't posted in awhile, 24 hours of OT over the last 2 weeks, but I just made the cash to pay for both my portion of the hotel room, and to pick up my plane ticket for GenCon. And while I have been working lots, I also managed to get some hobby time in. My Hell Dorado Demons showed up during this time, the starter, Tsilla 2 weeks ago, which I assembled and primed. A friend of mine will be painting them as they will be one of my demo forces for GenCon. The Greater Damned of Wrath and Damned of Gluttony showed up yesterday, so I got those assembled last night so I can get them to him tonight. I've also put a little paint on my Alkemy Aurlok starter, and some HD Mercs, but I'm finding I'm not in the mood to paint. I get stuff set up, and then sit there staring at it, feeling uninspired. Sadly the funk is also affecting my assembly. I have all that Wyrd stuff sitting there waiting to be put together. I think I'm just exhausted from all the work. Quote
Peterdita Posted April 30, 2009 Report Posted April 30, 2009 Grats on the OT payout! Nice way to rally some fundage for the show. There's nothing worse than when you actually want to paint something, and you have to sit there and file it down, pin it and prime it. So you'r making progress even if it doesn't feel that way. When you get some rest and energy you'll have a huge supply of stuff to start cranking out. And yeah, get to the Wyrd ones!!! : Quote
Breten Posted April 30, 2009 Author Report Posted April 30, 2009 (edited) St. Anger asked how I did the Troll's shield, so here's the details: For metallic colours I use Vallejo paints. I believe in this case I started with a black undercoat, and then start drybrushing. I started with Gunmetal Grey, then a drybrushed layer of Oily steel, and then a light layer of Silver. When drybrushing I don't just slap it all around, I try to pick out where the light would reflect the best, like doing natural highlights. I then used a wash of Devlan Mud (Citadel), and then an Armour Wash (P3). I then go pick out a few edges again with the Oily Steel mixed with some silver, and then finally pick out the highlights with Vallejo's Metallic Medium. Forgot tomention, I use Testor's Dullcote which flattens the sharpness of the metallics, and gives it that nice dull look. Edited April 30, 2009 by Breten forgot to add Quote
Breten Posted May 8, 2009 Author Report Posted May 8, 2009 So, I'm still swamped at work, though I was off sick today. I got an eye infection and te project manager sent me home to rest. Kind of hard to draft when you're eye is in pain. But I've done some stuff though it's been all over the board. War of the Ring isn't going away as my buddies armies get larger and larger. I've worked a little on my Easterlings, and added a bid beasty to the army: In additions I've slowly been working on the Dark Elf army and recently added and finished assembling this GameZone Dark Elf Sorceress on Black Pegasus. I really, really don't like the GW model, and when I saw this, I was happy. Also added some Black Guard. The Haqqislam in the picture were out for some repairs, and rebasing. I originall had all my Infinity (Haqqislam and PanO) on the Warmachine style bases, but recently decided to rebase them. The PanO have all been pulled from their bases and are just waiting for some Dragon Forge Tech Deck bases. My Haqqislam and YuJng are on Uncle Mike's resin bases. We've had a resurgence of Infinity locally now that a couple more people are interested and another store can get it in. So I've been assembling a Yu Jing force started at GenCon last year. I just got my Aragato Senkenbutai, Karakuri and Domaru with Chain Rifle, and started assembling them this weekend. I haven't done much painting as I just can't find the urge to paint. I'll bust stuff out, but sit and stare at it. Sadly this weekend won't be much better as we head up to Edmonton to visit the girlfriend's parents. Her dad plays in the Edmonton symphony and Saturday is his last concert before he retires. Hopefully Sunday I'll either get a game in or some painting done. Quote
