thewartoad Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 I have some older plastic miniatures and I would like to start over on them. Does anybody know what to use to remove paint from plastic without ruining the miniature or it's details? And if you guys have not seen these yet...check this out! http://www.asmodee-us.com/games/dungeon-twister/dungeon-twister-figurines-basic-set.php Quote
Wren Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 I bought the basic set ones years ago with the idea of painting them up so we could play this game in style. That so hasn't happened. :-< Though the sets come in two resin colours so you can still play the game with the figures even if they aren't painted. Quote
Duende Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 Pine-Sol. So long as it's acrylic paint and not enamels (I've never tried it removing enamel paint). Must let it soak for awhile (an hour at least). And don't use concentrated Pine-Sol with your bare hands. Just me on that one. Acetone and an old toothbrush can take it off quickly, but don't leave it soak or the acetone will start to soften the plastic. Just use fast and wash mini afterward. Quote
TheBugKing Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 Simplegreen is by far and away the best at removing acrylic paint from plastic. Lysol will attack the plastic after a short while and leave you with goo. Simplegreen will just remove the paint. It will stain the plastic odd colors but you are planning on painting the things anyway right? Quote
St. Anger Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 Yeah, what he said... I buy Simple Green by the gallon bottle. It's really good to soak the minis to help remove the mold release before priming too.... Quote
nerdelemental Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 +1 on Simplegreen. Magical. Quote
GreyHorde Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 +1 more on Simple Green, as long as you're not in a big hurry. For tougher jobs or shorter turnaround time, a concentrated auto engine degreaser like Castrol Super Clean or Purple Power is great. Works great on metal, plastic and resin. Read all the warnings - wear gloves and eye protection, use in a well-ventilated area, etc. Quote

St. Anger Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 Where can I purchase Simple Green? And thanks alot guys this was a big help! Walmart would be a good place... Quote
Keltheos Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 Walmart, home stores, ACE Hardware. +1 for Simple Green. I knew a guy who worked for the company and during a sales meeting the owner showed them how non-toxic the stuff was by downing a dixie cup of it. He didn't recommend you do it often (or at all), but it was the most effective demonstration my buddy'd ever seen. Quote
