thetang22 Posted October 19, 2008 Report Posted October 19, 2008 During the holiday season my family has a tradition of painting Christmas ornaments. Over the past year or 2 it has fallen off a bit though. This gave me a new idea - why not turn it into a Wyrd miniature painting event? I figured I could get 1 warband and let each person paint 1 miniature over the course of the evening and in the end we would have a full warband that everyone in the family would have been a part of making (all in 1 night too!). I have a pretty big family (5 brothers and sisters - along with some spouses/significant others) and the majority of them would enjoy doing this if it was made as a family evening event, so getting enough people to participate shouldn't be a problem. Sure, the quality would be lacking from some people, but the sentimental value would outweigh that for me. I contacted them about it and they are game, and I got a few ideas as well. One of my sisters actually suggested we paint the miniatures in a Christmas color scheme, which seemed odd at first, but the more I thought about it the more I liked it. I'm thinking of using Sonnia's warband. Sonnia = Mrs. Claus, the Witch Hunters = Santa's Elves, not sure about Samael, but as long as he's wearing green/red/white he'll look appropriate. I even thought about throwing Santa's big bag of gifts over his shoulder. I also want to make a display diorama for it too like the Lillith one. I'm thinking a small frozen waterfall/stream and lots of snow on the ground, along with a Christmas tree with decorations on it. I'm pretty excited about the idea and it will be great for a holiday/family event. Quote
Brushmistress Posted October 19, 2008 Report Posted October 19, 2008 That sounds like a really great idea! Maybe I'll steal that one and have a Christmas painting party with some of my friends over the holidays. We are all gamers, and though our band may also suffer from the quality on a few, it would be a great way to introduce them to the line of minis. Quote
Hinton Posted October 19, 2008 Report Posted October 19, 2008 Pretty cool idea. Please post pictures once it's all done as I would love to see how they all turn out. Quote

TheBugKing Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 For the first time I am jealous of you Tang. That is just not fair. (But it is bloody AWESOME! Definitely post pictures. This sounds great) Quote
EricJ Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 Sounds like a great idea! AND, don't forget, send us photos, pick a winner and WYRD will actually give you prizes! (well, gift certificates to the wyrd store). We're holiday-y like that Quote
thetang22 Posted November 19, 2008 Author Report Posted November 19, 2008 (edited) I actually ordered the miniatures just last night even though I posted the topic a while back. I am going with Sonnia's warband, but I have 6 people besides me painting so I had to buy 1 more miniature besides the warband (I don't plan on painting, I just plan on taking care of the display diorama case while they paint, as well as helping with any painting questions/tips). I debated quite a bit about what the 6th mini was going to be. I didn't know if I should get another Guild member for the sake of unity or if I should get a Merc for use with all sorts of different warbands. In the end I figured it would be good to stick with a Guild member and keep everything in the same color scheme since it is a holiday event, so I went with Judge since he'll probably be able to get some use with that warband. Also, he's got a long flowing coat that seems like it will lend itself to the theme. We would have 7 people painting (well....8 if you included me, but I'll be doing the base) but my girlfriend isn't going to be able to make it so it will only be 6 (7). She will be visiting her family in Chicago and my family is down by St. Louis, so she just won't be able to make it.... Edited November 19, 2008 by thetang22 Quote
