Sculpta the squig Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 Hey all, this is Hasslefrees excellent 28mm Artemis miniature that I recently painted to get back into the painting "groove" for GD. I tried to give it a semi-historical feel by keeping to plain leather and bronze with a bit of weathering using paint and pigment. The base was "painted" with MIG pigments. This was also an oppertunity for me to try out my new light tent (an adapted version from licams tutorial) and Wargriffons GIMP article. I very much enjoyed painting her, and I think she came out pretty well. Gallery link; CMON link Ta, Squig Quote
Hinton Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 Overall, it looks like a fairly solid paint job. The metals have an excellent weathered look them and the skin tone looks nice. Just curious: why isn't the shield on her arm in the second picture? Quote
EricJ Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 seems a bit underrated on cmon, as the blending, particularly on the skin, looks great. I think the photos do look a little washed out and might be doing it. Nice work! Quote
lizcam Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 Eric, Everything on Cmon is either under rated or over rated. lol I like it and saw it in WIP stage thanks to some quick links early on. I love the metals a lot. The skin is a bit grainy in a couple of places but not really enough to detract from the paint job and blending. Good job! Quote
Doll Face Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 Your mini is nice ! Metal is verry well done and that is the strong point of your mini. Your skin looks like if your paint was too thick (not fluid enough) but shadows are well done and it compensate a bit this "thickness". The base looks not finished. It is like if you concentrate on the mini and forget about the base. I thing the color of your base looks like if you do not brush it or plaz with washes at all. Just by brushing a bit your base with some "bleach bonne" or equivalent will help the global aspect of the mini. Anyway, good job ! DF Quote
thetang22 Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 Yep, it does look nice. The metal was done very well. I love seeing people use metallic paints well. I agree, the stuff on CMON is either really overrated or underrated most of the time and that you should have a better score than what it does have. In this case you probably got points off because it wasn't done with NMM. Most dips on that website get off on NMM even when the metallic version of something could look just as good if not better. The little blemish on the leg is a bit distracting too, which might also have contributed to the lower score than what it should have, but overall you've got a very nice piece there. Quote
