Taupo is a very desirable area, for both tourists and people who live there. Lots to do, and in winter it gets quite cold and you've got mountains nearby with snow, etc. The lake has areas that are geothermally heated, and there are other geothermal features about the place in which you can bathe, or just check out, but as far as anything else specifically referencing Horomatangi, I don't know of anything.
