If you are required to be placed within 2" as the result of one ability (Push the red button), you are going to be within 2" of the other ability (Demise). Both definitely use the term within. If you're far enough away to not take damage from the latter, you've illegally placed on the former.

Short of an ability like Two Places At Once (Thirty Three, Obliteration/Marshall), there's no capacity to avoid being within range of the blast.

Note, you aren't always going to be on the receiving end of the blast. If you can unbury on the other side of a Ht 4 wall, you're fine.

Also, if another Ht4+ 50mm model is in base contact with Calypso, that offers a shelter point unburying on the far side. I am not sure on the mathematics of a Ht4+ 40mm model , but I've got a feeling that there's a distance that might offer some protection.

I haven't the exact text to hand. But from memory ht doesn't protect you from a pulse. If you are in Los and 2" you get hit. ( as pointed out ejected pilots might manage to get out of sight).

If you do that, someone has to dig out the rulebook and point out to you how this edition includes elevation differences in distances, unlike the previous edition.  🧐

Really, all it means is that you'd be closer horizontally than you would otherwise need to be.  And if the Calypso's on the ground, the pilot ignores the at most 1" of horizontal wall it would be standing on and has line of sight to the Calypso in spite of the shadow.

When drawing sight lines, a model standing on terrain that is casting a Shadow ignores that terrain (and its Shadow) if any single sight line drawn between the two objects passes through 1" or less of that terrain.

The vertical difference in elevation rules:

M3E:

Measurement is almost always done horizontally from the closest point on the base of the object in question. If a player is measuring to an object, they measure to the closest point on the base of the target. If there is a vertical element, that distance is added to the distance, minus the lower object’s Size or Height (to a minimum of 0).

vs. M2E:

In Malifaux, all measurements are done from a top-down perspective. Elevation is not factored into the measurement, although model and object height are used in other ways.

Wouldn't that affect the Drmise pulse range? So I place within 2" ehich ignores vertical distance but Demise doesn't so technically a Pilot can skip Demise?
