Waldo
Hey Wyrdos, This week, Waldo is preparing to join us at Gen Con, and this time, he’s decided to drive the truck. Luckily for us, he doesn’t know the difference between driving an 18-wheeler and getting behind the wheel in an elaborate (cardboard) truck simulator. So, while we make sure he somehow doesn’t crash into our digital webstore, let’s take a look at all of the new and upcoming releases that will be available at Gen Con (and on our webstore while we are in Indianapolis). In case you missed it, last week we revealed this year’s Nightmare Box, which reimagines Nekima and her Nephilim crew as underwater merfolk. What’s unique about this year’s Nightmare Edition is that it is fully compatible with both Malifaux AND The Other Side. Regardless of which side of the Breach you’ll be fighting on, the Deepest Depths box will make sure that you do it in aquatic style. Bayou Bash is a chaotic racing game for 2-4 players filled with rambunctious racers who will do anything to win over the most fans before crossing the finish line. This long-awaited board game will finally be available during Gen Con this year. And if you can’t make it to Gen Con this time around, check to see if your friendly local game store is participating in Pop Up Gen Con. Bayou Bash will be playable and purchasable at all Pop Up Gen Cons. If you pick up Bayou Bash while at Gen Con or online during Gen Con, you’ll receive a Bayou Bash pin! In Vagrantsong, a cooperative and story-driven boss battler for 2-4 players, you will take on the role of a Vagrant trapped on a supernatural ghost train. Face off against ghosts lingering on the train (called Haints), adjust your playstyle with Skills and Junk acquired along the way, and uncover the secrets of the Silver Ferryman in this spooky and challenging adventure. We will have limited copies of Vagrantsong available as a pre-release at Gen Con. Due to having limited copies for this pre-release and preorders, Vagrantsong will only be available at the convention (meaning it will not be available on our webstore until the game’s official release date). If you pick up a copy of Vagrantsong from now until January 31st, fill out this form to receive a Bonus Scenario (which includes new Skills, Junk, and Ritual cards) for free (while supplies last). Vagrantsong will be released at local game stores later this fall. If you’re looking to get into The Other Side for the first time or are a Malifaux player looking to expand your Guild or Resurrectionist model list, The Other Side’s Starter Box is a great opportunity to do both! As part of the Other Side 2-player Starter set, Kirai Ankoku will bring her host of ghosts Earthside to battle as part of The Court of Two. Fighting against the Court of Two are the iron-willed Guild, showcasing their power Earthside. Led by Sonnia Criid, the Guild are a dominate show of force on the battlefield, with access to new area control and resource management abilities, providing ample card draw and beneficial effects. All of the models in The Other Side’s Starter Box are playable in Malifaux Third Edition, as well! Joining them during Gen Con are the official releases for Samantha Thrace and Binh Nguyen. These Champions can be used to expand the forces within the 2-player Starter Box, or can be used independently in other Allegiances in the game. They are also compatible with Malifaux Third Edition as alt models; Samantha Thrace counts as Dashel Barker and Binh Nguyen counts as Datsue Ba. The Other Side Starter Box, Samantha Thrace, and Binh Nguyen will be available at Gen Con and during our Gen Con web sale, and will be hitting store shelves later this fall. If you purchase The Other Side Starter box from now until January 31st from us, you’ll receive a TOS pin for free! Malifaux Burns is the upcoming expansion book for Malifaux Third Edition that includes new titles for every Master in the game, as well as dual-keyword models that will be paired with two Masters. In addition to cards and bios of every new title and character, Malifaux Burns also includes one epic story about the Burning Man arriving in Malifaux, and what it means to everyone this side of the Breach. You’ll be able to pick up the Malifaux Burns expansion book at Gen Con, during the Gen Con web sale, or when it hits store shelves in October. And if you buy it between now and January 31st, send us a proof of purchase here and you’ll receive the digital PDF of Malifaux Burns for free! PDF links will be sent out on a weekly basis after the book is officially released. And if you pick up Malifaux Burns during Gen Con (either at the convention or on our webstore), you’ll receive a Malifaux pin, too! Looking for a list of everything we’ve got available this year? Here is the list of every new and upcoming release that will be available at Gen Con and during the online Gen Con sale. Kyle
Hey everyone, Some of you might have noticed that we have some strange names in our upcoming release list in our previous Gen Con 2021 post. Well, we’d also like to give you a little peek into what’s inside those boxes. Behind the Trigger If you managed to catch Household Gamer’s reveal on Perdita and Ophelia, you’ll already know plenty about them and their new friend, Sly. In case you missed it, you can find their content reveal video here. Now, for the next two reveals, you’ll just have to wait to find out more information about how these Master titles play on the field. But don’t worry, the wait won’t be long - we’ll have a video uploaded to YouTube next week that will take a look at these next two boxes (and more). Best Kept Secrets A Twisted Tale These boxes and those already listed in the Gen Con 2021 post will be available at the convention in Indianapolis and on our webstore during the Gen Con Sale.

Paddywhack
The models in a Twisted Tale look awesome! I don't even play either Master, but both look great. Jack Daw has a serious serial killer/monster vibe and Nellie looks like a deranged librarian. Auguste looks like a typical 'end of the world' crazy dancing on a corner. Great box and sculpts. Yeah, as someone who has to deal with international shipping, and so usually does group orders, this kind of thing (if ruled as written) is just frustrating. When I'd make the trip to GenCon, when this is enforced, I'd just take several trips through the booth. But as I can't do that this year (for obvious reasons), having to make a decision between potentially doubling shipping costs to get multipes on a multi-hundred dollar order, or potentially having people who are willing to spend $100 miss out, is a crappy position to be in.

Based on previous years, even if Wyrd don't spoil all the book before gencon, within about 5 hours of Gencon opening all the new models are likely to be talked about with images on the forums. 13 hours ago, Doomikov said: Just double checking. Only one Miss model no matter how large your order is, correct? I haven't heard anything about changing this, so I would expect it to remain the case. It is certainly annoying for international buyers, the best I can say is that it is now relatively common for the miss model to be for sale in the black friday event at around $25, so that's the value I put on it as a model, and if I want multiple and get less than $25 shipping I'm better doing multiple orders, otherwise I am best just doing the one order. (Here in the Uk, I can almost garentee the customs charges and handling fees for that check is more than $25 dollers so its never worth me doing multiple orders.

I know this has been the case in the years before, I just would prefer if this time Wyrd themselves came out with everything. Spoiler seasons for other games like, say, Magic the Gathering, feature a buildup over some time via different media and then the rest of the new stuff is dumped in the end of the reveal timeframe. This way the players see all the product, plan purchases, etc. I know it's not a perfect comparison. And of course, there could be impediments to this. Seeing as Wyrd is on the smaller side of companies as far as I'm aware, so they could be short-handed. Additionally, more spoilers on Waldo's Weekly could await us in the future, providing content there. And on that note, I'd like to congratulate Wyrd on a spoiler campaign well done. They included different media, content creators, spaced out the reveals so far well. Had me speculating for a good while who would be paired with whom. This ties in well because I was able to find a playmate after more than two years of dead Malifaux, draw enough interest to stage small demo play and perhaps draw another player or two in. Having all this buzz was really useful as it drew in interest, saved me time when talking about crews and helped people start learning and theorycrafting without me holding their hand. It also helps show that the game is alive and the company keeps doing more and more new things to spice things up while keeping (at least) the entry level quite low for a miniature game.

I would agree I think it has been a good spoiler campaign. There has been a decent rate to the releases, with a nice wide range of style of release (I like that they have given content to the fans of the game to release as a reward to them for supporting the community). Kyle spoke about a video with more information in. We have no idea if this includes all the remaining master pairs or not. I liked that this release gave the players some sensible speculation space. We know what masters are being released, we just don't know which are being paired so that gave a sensible start to speculation. I know that this pattern can't really work in all releases, but its nice when it does come up, that they were able to make use of it. Its been a while since I followed magic enough to pay attention to its spoilers, but I can't remember everything being spoiled before the prerelease events. (they may have and I just don't remember, and there is a lot less interest in a lot of the magic release, when 1/3rd of the cards are common that I'll see hundreds of, and often rarely put into decks. ) 2

The problem with that argument, is that if I'm not going to save significantly on shipping, and I can just get them at that price later, wouldn't it be better to just order the stuff through my local game store (where I get a discount off MSRP)? Sure, it might get delayed some*, but the whole purpose of the GenCon order is to save some money AND put as much money as I can into Wyrd's pocket (direct sales at no discount). * And a delay isn't really relevant at the moment, as I'm not likely to actually be able to play in the next couple months due to lockdowns here anyway. Just feels like I'm being disincentivized, because shipping is (and has been for a long time) ludicrous to Australia.

This assumes that the Wyrd purpose for Gencon orders is to make you buy from them. I don't think that is it. The wyrd purpose at gencon (I believe) is to generate hype and introduce new things that get their fans talking and planning. When I had access to a gencon shopper, the most important thing to me was the new book with the rules. But when I have to pay shipping on that book I'm more likely to wait a month and buy it from my FLGS. My Gencon orders now are almost always to get things early, or things with limited access (like nightmare crews). They don't save me any money at all, and probably cost more because of the shipping and customs fees, as well as shop discounts I may be able to get. I may not be the typical customer. I'm now more likely to buy things at Wyrds Birthday where there are more incentives for the bigger buy than at Gencon. But I don't think multiples of the same free model at gencon are likely to change that. I think I have only once bought something from Wyrd at Gencon that was already released, and that was faction decks that I couldn't get in local stores. Everything else has either been at least an early release, or a restricted time purchase (I may have done a special items order which I can sometimes get through FLGS but its often more faff)

We understand that our international community prefers to pool their purchases with friends to reduce shipping/taxes, so we are trying to accommodate that. This goes for physical Gen Con purchases and webstore purchases during the Gen Con sale. 5
