My local gaming club is non-existent for Malifaux, the few who have models use them for other systems i.e. carnavale.

I know its a tournament don't get me wrong, but is it relatively casual, or are we talking about a meta 40k style powergamer event? I was thinking of attending it just to get some games in, learn a few more rules, tactics etc, meet some friendly people. Easy win from a gaming point of view.

As a community, I don't think we've ever done "powergamer events" - there will definitely be a handful of players that really want to win, and are well capable of it - most of us just go to have a bit of fun, socialise and flip some cards. I'd recommend grabbing a ticket if you can: even if you are drawn against one of the best players, you'll soon find your level.

As Tom says there are some top players in attendance, but when not playing their main rivals they will play in such a way that you'll learn loads and not grind you into the ground. I always aim to have a fun atmosphere to events, and the Malifaux community is great for achieving this.

Echoing what Tom and Dave are saying.

Malifaux as a community is really supportive, even though we are seen as quite competitive....it is still a primarily fun day.

My last two events I have gone into the final game against some 'top' players and although it did not work out well for me, I still learnt a lot about how my crews operate and how the opponents crew operated. It is a great learning opportunity and is always done with humility and a bit of fun.

@Richard Neale - if you are free this saturday and local to Coventry (or dont mind a little trek) you are more than welcome to come to my little Nationals prep event with a crew and worst case play some games with me and you can see how nice the community is. This is the 'Wyrd Road to Nationals' found on the forums.

Good news - we are sold out at 72 players, and I have updated the list on the first post. Please let me know of any errors.

Ticket refunds are no longer available. If you cannot go, or sell your ticket to another player, please let me know ASAP as the above list will be used to get you into the building!

COVID rules will be in place, and will be confirmed prior to the event. Currently you are encouraged to be double vaccinated. Masks should be worn when mingling and in the show itself. Masks can be removed when playing, but please check with your opponent first. https://www.ascot.co.uk/covid-19-statement

On the Friday there will be limited access. If you would like to help with set up, or can provide a table or two of terrain, please contact me directly as I have to give a list of names to the organisers. I should be able to unload from 3:30pm, so help from them would be appreciated. I would like all 36 tables set up on Friday for a smooth start to Saturday, so we should easily be finished by 6:30pm.

I am staying at the Premier Inn in Sandhurst, so if anyone would like to join me for dinner on the Friday please let me know and I'll book a table at the adjacent Beefeater.

For the Saturday evening Jamie & Matt are looking into somewhere we can have a group meal, though numbers will probably be rather limited. Info to follow.

More updates to follow soon...

Quick question now the date is coming closer; all Spaniards attending are fully vaccinated, but it seems we need to do a covid test on the second day (in our case, on Sunday) and have it booked prior to travel to UK. Do you guys know if there is a testing site close to the venue? I'm reading some options but involve delivering (we will be playing so it might not be an option) and frankly I'm quite lost looking for options to do it in Ascot.

Since the testing is before the end of day 2, do you guys know if it would be ok for to us to take it the very same day we arrive? This is, on Friday, so we can relax.

Any help is appreciated!

Note you can do your day 2 test any time up to day 2, so in theory you could do it as soon as you land. If your been double jabbed you only need lateral flows/antigen tests, not pcr

Most airports have testing centers on site or near by for day 2 tests

I'm swabbing team leader on a testing site if you have any more questions?

I have a bucket load of lateral flow tests in my car that you are more than welcome to use.

Well there's just 1 week to go to the biggest event of the year. So here is the latest information.

We are sold out with 72 players, including 8 from overseas, plus a ringer if needed. It is most important to let me know of any name changes, inability to attend or lateness on the day in order to make things run smoothly.

On Saturday please arrive with plenty of time to spare. You will need to book into the show and collect your wristband before coming up to the room to register for the event. In this respect pre-registering on Bag 'o Tools will really help as this speeds things up at my end.

There are no specific Covid entry requirements, though you will be requested to wear a mask when not at your table. If possible I would also suggest taking a lateral flow test before attending.

Your entry ticket gives you access to the show, so bring some spending money! There is limited catering on site, but it might be a good idea to bring your own lunch/drinks.

Thank you to those who have volunteered to help with set up on Friday. Please note that unfortunately you will not just be able to turn up for casual gaming. However, fell free to join me for a drink in Sandhurst later on.

A reminder that new models/titles from Malifaux Burns will be allowed, but that an appropriate model must be provided, along with a physical copy of the card (e.g. scan from the book). I strongly recommend checking your proposed model with me (David Brown) beforehand.

On Saturday evening there will be a group meal, with limited spaces, and I'll post separately about this.

Prize support is the belt for first place, trophies for 2nd/3rd/best painted/most sporting/best in faction, plus a spoon of course. The other prize support, which ranges from nightmare crews to a paintbrush, will be shared using a single raffle ticket per person approach - so everyone will go away with something 🙂

If you have any questions, or I haven't covered something please post hear or message me. I'm busy most of the weekend, so apologies if replies are a bit slow, then next week I have to check 30+ boxes of terrain, focussing on those using smaller boxes so that they'll fit in the car!
Take care, and I look forward to seeing you next weekend.
