Waldo's Weekly - Runaway Train

Hey Wyrdos,

This week, Waldo decided to give his wings a rest and attempted to do a little train-hopping to get from one place to another. Unfortunately for him, he hopped on one owned by the Condor Rails and ran into Anya’s armed security.  Since he looks a little like a Nephilim who needs to go on a diet, they treated him about as nicely as they would of any black blood in the Knotwoods.

So while he’s nursing his wounds (and ego), let’s take a look at one of the characters in the upcoming Outcast Starter box!

The Outcast Starter Box includes 4 models: Yannic Waller, 2 Catalan Riflemen, and the Catalan Brawler (who we’ll be talking about in just a moment). Each model is a Versatile character for Outcast crews, but they also have the Syndicate keyword, so they’ll also be playable for Anya and the Condor Rails.

Just like the Bayou Starter box, which we covered in a previous Waldo’s Weekly, the Outcast Starter Box will also include tokens, a measuring widget, and an Outcast-themed Fate deck.

The Catalan Brawler punches first, then asks questions later (if at all). This 8 cost Enforcer is tough to bring down Armor and Hard to Kill, and his Cage Fighter defensive trigger will have opponents second-guessing whether they want to get into a boxing match with a character that has metal fists as weapons.

His Brass Knuckles attack action packs a wallop with a 2/3/5 damage track that also dishes out Staggered to the target, and the Hold Down trigger will help his Riflemen get a clear, opportunistic shot. Even as a heavy hitter, the Catalan Brawler provides some utility to the crew with his Toss in the Mud Action, which allows him to remove a pesky Condition on his friends (or enemies!).

The Outcast Starter Box will be hitting store shelves in June!

Don't forget: the Easter Extravaganza Event is happening right now! Head over to our webstore to pick up alts, Nightmare models, and Malifaux Classics! The Event ends this Friday.

We'll see you next week!

Staggering punch is 0"

Using Brass Knuckles make it 1"

Why is this a thing?

I don't know what brass knuckles you've got, but mine are like 12" long :D

Looks ok, I'll deffo need to see on the table. Almost feel like he needs another bonus...

Condor security also seems hard to use against Ml attacks, have to be within 2" of the friend and a scheme and be engaged by the enemy... that's quite the bubble! That said, it should be pretty good against ranged attacks like Ancient Words or Breath of Fire that you can still use up close.

Only the friendly has to be within 2". You can be on the opposite side from an enemy and drop a marker. Alternatively, the Hodgepodge Emissary could give him don't mind me, or use A Weary Road. Prospectors could also help get a marker in place, or Wokou Raiders.

He fits in really well with Outcasts.

The friendly has to be within 2" of the brawler and scheme marker. The enemy has to be able to legally target the Brawler. So its a relatively tight bubble if you're looking at a 1":melee action, but not hard to arrange if its a 12":ranged you want protection from.

Yes, but if the enemy model is not engaging the Brawler (as well as whet he wants to hit) then the brawler is not a legal target and the enemy can pummel the target to he's heart's content!

Everyone is so excited about him in Outcasts, no one is talking about how he fits in with Syndicate. Presumably a model named rifleman will have a solid gun, and Yannic Waller is shown holding a gun, so his trigger will probably have good synergy with them, but no currently existing Syndicate models have a very scary gun. Surveyors are probably the best, if you want to move something (which could be brutal combined with the stagger).

Of course there are OOK models too, but ES as a whole only has okay guns among henchmen, enforcers and minions (best ones are probably Spelleaters or Rough Riders). If your meta allows 2nd masters or not will determine how brutal he is with Basse, McCabe and of course Lord Cooper all having good guns. You can actually get 2 extra Cooper shots off per turn using the Brawler and Mr Ngaatoro to obey the brawler (and 2nd charge by the Brawler if needed so that could be across several targets).
