Lamplighters, Corpse Candles, and Lighting the Way

I was looking at the card for the Lamplighters when I noticed they have a bonus action called “Light the Way” which shares its name with the Corpse Candles’ bonus action but is totally different. So then I was wondering if there were other actions or abilities that shared names but had otherwise completely different text, and I couldn’t find any other examples. Not sure if this was intentional, just an oversight, or if Wyrd intends to change it later.

That's not that uncommon. There's several models with actions named the same thing that don't always do the same thing. Generally it's generic attack actions like "fancy cane" or something but it's definitely not unheard of. Just a good name for both actions for those models.

Quick edit: there's 8 models with the Fancy Cane action and they all have different stats, damage spreads, and triggers. It happens.

Fancy Cane is always 1", against Df and 2/3/4, isn't it?

So, I guess the Light the Way thing is an oversight.

Yeah, abilities just have the same range, italics, and effect I believe.

There's been a few discrepancies introduced in ES. Light the Way is one I didn't know about, but there's also Tin Feast and something else I can't remember.

It is presumably an oversight rather than intentional, considering how much work must have gone into streamlining all the names for M3E in the first place?

I also think it’s fine to have actions with the same name, so long as the actions are actually  the same. Different characters are going to be stronger or otherwise better than others, so having different stats, abilities, and triggers doesn’t bother me at all.

The point I’m making is that I think it’s an issue when we have two actions that share the same name but are in every other way totally different from each other. When a Corpse Candle does “Light the Way,” it moves corpse markers. When a Lamplighter does “Light the Way,” it makes a lamp marker “lit.” When either Old Cranky or Lucius attacks with their Fancy Cane, they’re still attacking with their Fancy Cane.

I hadn’t noticed Tin Feast being different either!

I think it's pretty clearly an oversight.  There's been a determined effort to systemize abilities, actions and triggers in 3E.

Now, is it super critical if different actions happen to share the same name?  I think we all know it's not, but that doesn't mean a better job couldn't be done to maintain consistency.
