Confused on Triggers, notably Defensive ones

regleant

Question

Lotus Eater: DF/WP (crow) Soul Ward: If this action is a melee attack, the Attack model suffers 2/3/3.

Does the dual need to be successful to trigger this?  Based on Page 12: "If a Trigger does not list a timing, it is treated as an After succeeding Trigger," which is where I'm leaning

Yes, the lotus eater needs to win the duel to apply that trigger. There are a few defensive triggers that are after resolving, so they apply regardless, but they list that as a timing.
