One of my players brought up a good question. Push says you can not move vertically during a push. So if you push a model off a ledge. Does the model finish it's push before dropping. Can the model not be pushed off the edge or does it push immediately drop and the push is over?

When the rulebook says:

Quote

All Pushing is horizontal (though models may change elevation if they Push horizontally along a staircase or hill; see pg. 39 for more details).

what it's trying to say is that you can't declare a Push up into the air, or diagonally up.  If you push out into the air, the Move paragraph is going to kick in:

Quote

If a model is ever without any of its base supported by terrain or the table, that model falls and suffers falling damage equal to half the distance it fell in inches (rounded down). It then continues any remaining portion of its movement as normal.

and then "continues any remaining portion of its movement as normal" is going to be in a line parallel to the previous segment.  Just like if you were pushing up stairs or across a hill or a sloped area of the table.

Disclaimer:  This opinion is informed, in part, by inertia and the M2E FAQ:

Quote

If a model is pushed off of an edge high enough to necessitate a fall, does it fall immediately? Could it be pushed far enough to reach another surface of equal height (assuming there was such a surface)?

Models which fall due to a push, fall immediately (models also generally fall immediately during regular movement unless they have Flight or Incorporeal). The model would be pushed off of the ledge and then immediately fall and take any necessary falling damage upon reaching the ground. Then, if there is any distance left required by the push (and the model is still in play), it will push the remaining distance.

A.k.a "I expect the rules to keep working."

The rules also state the push ends when it comes in contact with another model or impassable terrain. I rules it can't push over walls

This is why Charge was changed to a push this edition, you cannot push over climbable objects so you cant Charge over climbable objects. One of the Devs talks about this
