Help with plug and play crews

Recommended Posts

I’m getting some friends popping by for a faux weekend, everyone is new to the game, and a few haven’t even got their own crews and will be borrowing to try it out. I myself have only two games under my belt, so I’m far from being a veteran, so I need a little help in creating some simple thematic 50SS Ressur crews, that can inspire people to play.

We’ll be playing M2E for sake of simplicity. These are the available models :

McMourning, Sebastian, Zombie Chihuahua, 2 Flesh constructs, 2 Nurses, 2 Rogue Necromancy, 2 Kentauroi, 3 Guild Autopsies, Rafkin, 4 Hounds

Seamus, Copycat Killer, Sybelle, 3 Belles, 2 Dead Doxies.

Carrion Emissary, Chiaki, 2 Shikome

Thanks for your help.

I would highly recommend going with M3E. It might be hard to introduce them to 2E and then immediately switch gears to 3E.

Totally support this. I got in a few months ago, and starting with M3E has major upsides. We only had to learn one ruleset, we got to learn the most relevant rules, and we purchased models based on the most up-to-date rules (one person considered a dead man's hand model before finding out about those rules).

Also, 50 soulstone games are hard even for experienced players, IMO. I'd start them with something super simple for the first few games. Maybe do a game at 15, 25, and 35 soulstones (sans masters).

I'd go with M3E there's not much point in learning M2E as it's done and dusted, would probably cause them more confusion in the long run.

Looks to me like you've got a solid Experimental keyword crew, they're a pretty straight forward crew to run, and they've got a bit of everything and some really nice synergy,

I'd probably go with

Mcmourning + Zombie Chihuahua - 0

Sebastian - 8

Rafkin - 8

Rogue Necromancy -10

Nurse - 6

Kentauroi - 8

and then either 2x Canine Remains (6) or a Flesh Construct (7) Depending on Strat and Schemes

Experimental is pretty straightforward. They can be more tricky if you want to really focus on the Poison stuff, but you don't have to to be fun. You might be able to do RedChapel as well. Other than Seamus himself, they are pretty straightforward too. Seamus takes a little understanding to get good use of, but he's not bad.

I also second starting with smaller crews, maybe Henchman led, just to get a grasp of the basics. Then you can move to a full 50SS game.

Your Redchapel stuff will do fine, though there isn't a lot to get you to 50. (RN, Carrion Emissary, or Kentauri?  Extra beaters are nice to have.)

Just remind whomever is running the crew that Seamus is very much the star.  The rest of the crew is kind of setting him up to spike something.

All the cards are available to print if you have the files. Some of the online crew builders actually let you print the cards you've chosen. One, I forget which, has it set up to print in the new card size too so you can get used to the extra table space needed. You should at least let them know that 3E is right around the corner and some things, including hiring restrictions, are going to change. Don't want to get them excited about a certain combo that might not work the same in a few weeks.
