As soon as the concept art wasn't bipedal, the dreadnought was doomed to look smaller.  The only way they could fix it while still having this form factor would be to either expand the base (unlikely) or have it tuck it's feet under itself, which would make it look like it's afraid to step on something (which it isn't).

Why? They could certainly have done more with the scale. Have a look at privateer press storm strider for an example of a to scale walker on the same size base.
