Emiba's painfully slow painting

Since I enjoy watching other's progress, and to provide myself with a kick in the rear, I've decided to show my painting progress.

I'm an excruciatingly slow painter because I just can't bring myself to paint below my full capacity and I don't paint regularly enough to become fast. Yet. Lately I've become a bit more regular in my painting and added a wet palette to my tools which have sped up my painting. Some.

So without further ado, here's the currently finished models as well as what's currently on the painting table. Highest priority right now is the Hooded Rider and Mysterious Effigy to round out my starting campaign crew. (Also basing Mr. Graves and two Terror Tots, because painted but not based is just silly.)

Currently finished.

On the painting table. (I'm not only slow, I'm also unfocused/undisciplined.) The Tots have been finished since this picture was taken and the Effigy and Rider are further along.

Some pictures of some of the finished models: (I'm considering to switch to a dark background, not sure which works best?)

Thanks, I tend to gravitate towards muted tones with a details with more vibrant colors. It's just personal preference, I love seeing a colorful model but when I see a well implemented paint job in muted/earthy tones it appeals to me in a different way.

I went to a painting competition over the weekend and managed to finish these guys in the allotted 24 hours. (Minus a couple of hours for sleep for me...)

There was an Age of Sigmar category and an open category. These were the only Wyrd models in the competition and I managed to win the open category. I'm super stoked about it since it's my first hobby competition of any kind. Never participated in a tournament, never been in a painting competition. The fact that there were a lot of really beautiful entries only made it better.

I'll try to add some OSL on Iggy's arms and maybe brighten up the wood on the emissary and the Claw. Apart from that I'm super happy with them.

I've finished a bunch of more models but been too lazy with photographing them. I'll try to correct that in the near future.

Wow, totally missed that there were new posts in here, sorry for the late reply.

Thanks! I basically brought all of my built and unpainted NB stuff and had made a priority list. I wanted to paint a full 50ss crew worth (not game optimized but to be able to say I painted a full crew in 24 hours) and had Lynch (as my only owned and unpainted NB master) lined up. I really wanted the Emissary, Iggy, Doppelganger and Lilitu painted for my Zoraida crew though so the initial plan were those, Lynch, Huggy and the 3 Illuminated. When I started on the Emissary, the colors were kind of similar for the fur of the Rougarou, the Claw's armour and also Aeslin's armor (I didn't finish Aeslin) so I painted those while I had the paints on the palette. Somewhere along the line I realize I wouldn't have time to finish the Dark Debts box so I abandoned them for now and concentrated on these ones. Coming in at 52 ss I still count it as close enough to the original intention. I'm not very disciplined when it comes to painting... 😋

Really digging your style. Lovely strong highlights.

Thank you! I feel like I need to learn to cover more of the area with the first layer of highlight. I'm always afraid to cover too much but in the end I often feel I leave too large areas of shadow and the top highlights before very small.

So, after painting nearly exclusively Neverborn since my first crew, Seamus, I'm switching over to Resurrectionists again. My plan was to rather unoriginally do cobblestone/pavement bases but paint the lip rust, like my Killjoy. Then I had the idea to do a marble effect on the lip instead and now I can't make up my mind. I guess I'll just finish one of each for the Lampads and see which one I like best. Either way, I'd like to hear your opinions.

First the look of the center of the base. It's not done, it'll have some gray highlights added to it.

Next, the marble effect. Here in a medium dark gray. Could also do lighter or darker.

Finally, Killjoy with his rust colored base lip.

I think I prefer the light grey. Alternatively go for the brown one.

But what I really prefer is black. Pure, uncomplicated black. All else are inferior:P

I used to be the same, but then I realized it's a missed opportunity to paint. 😁

These guys aren't in my pledge for the painting challenge for this month but are wholly done in January.

Time for a bit of racism confession. I despise greenskins. I just think Malifaux would be a better setting without them. There's enough comic relief that we don't need stupid greenskins. I'd even like them better if they were still stupid rednecks but human. It's not rational, I just don't like them.

That being said, Zoraida seems to have taken a liking to them and these particular ones have some uses in her crew. So without further ado, I give you my first (and hopefully last) greenskin models; Gautreaux Bokors.

These ones are already painted, but I don't suppose it would've made a difference to paint them a different colour? Could do human skin, which tends to look creepy when figure isn't sculpted exactly like a human (gremlins lack noses, right?). Alternatively you could've gone for some lighter brown, ochre, or more dulled out flesh colour instead. In an essence make them some random swamp gnomes or whatever.

That's an incredibly good idea. Pity I didn't think of that. 😝
