Monthly painting challenge - April

Hello,

Here is the thread for April of the monthly painting challenge. Please post your pictures, plans and discussions for the month here.

I'm also copy-pasting a reminder of the rules and the principles of the challenge:

The idea of the challenge is a motivational one. It is simply a friendly painting community---not a competition---that we use to find motivation to finish painting our Malifaux miniatures. You pledge an amount of soulstones that you will be painting each month of the year 2018. If you want to enroll for the challenge, it's too late because you would use too many mulligans.

I'll use the following spreadsheet to keep track of each one's situation: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zYYugrSGk_4GTo8OjHjyfI_ruYWYOSnhy7U2ivbgfZ8/edit?usp=sharing

Some specific rules:

  • At the START of the month: post a photo of your unpainted minis and any plans for them you have.  In the MIDDLE of the month: post work in progress photos if you want, or just banter about ideas.  At the END of the month: post your finished models and the Soul Stone Cost painted, and I will get this on the tracking sheet.  Post this by the end of the month.  And include the total soul stones painted.
  • Models count for the month in which you finish them.
  • Everyone may fail to make their monthly goal twice and stay in the challenge.
  • You can choose to go down in the pledge hierarchy during the year, but you cannot move up.
  • You may choose to sign up during a later month for the challenge but this means that you'll have to use one or two of the aforementioned mulligans: e.g. if you start in February, one mulligan will already been used; if you start in March, two mulligans will already been used; you cant start in April.
  • Masters count for 15 soulstones
  • Zero cost models count for 5 soulstones
  • Terrain count too. Terrain must be painted and is treated like zero cost models (i.e. count for 5 soulstones). The piece of terrain must be significantly largert than a 50mm marker.

To paraphrase an old mayan saying: "Miniature painting is like a fart. If you have to force it, it's probably sh... shomething not good."

I am not feeling Zoraida at the moment, but I had some ideas for Mr. Graves, so...

Really looking forward to painting him :)
I want to paint his suit as charcoal plaid and his shirt probably dark purple/red-purple (will decide after I have painted the suit). He will be holding a pole that is broken at the end and will be standing on a porch with the rest of the broken pole sticking out, like he just teared it out of it. And I would like to paint his head like he is balding but shaves it - like you would paint a stubble or a very short hair but only on the sides and the back of his head.

Terrain wise, I want to paint a clock tower and finish my fountain. Maybe try making some water/mud difficult terrain piece with leftover epoxy.

And if the fate smiles on me, I'll base and finish my December Acolytes. I swear those minis are cursed, waiting for months and months 😃

This month will be master heavy.

I'm going with:

Vintage Misaki - 15SS

Vintage Sonnia - 15SS

Alternate Francisco - 8SS

3x Stitched Together - 18SS

For a grand total of 56SS (which... I'm feeling more and more I might have been too conservative with my original pledge level ;)

I'll post pictures of Frank a bit later.

I have nothing but admiration for those who take on entire crews or any number of models greater than my general offering of two or three (or one last month)....so...this month I will be finishing those started last month...Barbaros and two Black Blood Shamans....the Shamans are well underway so I hope to post a finished photo within the fortnight

I am doing this on the understanding that SS for models count in the month they are finished...correct ?

also @Franchute until now I have entered models either on the sprue or primered...how underway can a model be to enter ? For example I have two Goryo that have been sitting on my bench for months now...maybe 75% finished...are they too finished to enter ? Am totally ok with no as an answer...just curious to know😉

Enter any model you dont consider finished. The idea of the challenge is to help you finish them.

@Franchute way cool 👍....many thanks....apart from all the models I have yet to build that will be a great help in clearing my backlog of partly finished models that is in danger of gathering dust

I have also posted on the home page about the "like" button not working....it works but all reactions disappear as soon as I navigate away from whatever page I am on plus I can't see anybody's reaction to anything...hope they fix it soon as this thread is great in good part because of our interactions with each other

I reported the issue to se site administrator yesterday when I got feeling something was going wrong.

For April, my models will be (or at least, that's what I'd love to see finished):

* Three jorogumos (3 x 9 = 27 SS)

* The hodgepodge emissary (10 SS)

* Ama no Zako (9 SS)

* Desperate Mercenary (3 SS)

for a total of 49 SS.
