My concern with going deep is does a gibbering horde against burning man game provide a good demo experience.

Im planning on recruiting for this game hardcore

From my perspective it certainly does :D However it does help making it clear which factions are around on all times.
I'm very happy to hear you are willing to go recruiting hardcore.

I believe that the perspective of playing two monster factions versus each other still offers a very interesting game, easily as much as two human factions versus each other or human vs monster.
The prime reason as to why I believe both work is because they fit Wyrd's own unique fantasy character very well.

For Malifaux I started the game playing Guild vs Arcanist, then continued vs Ten Thunders. While other players in my local player group have largely played Ressurs vs Neverborn. In none of these games the set up of the factions felt odd. For me TOS offers the same kind of fantasy battle experience.

As long as your not playing mirror matches the game usually ends up being heaps of fun!

Gibbering Hordes for a couple of reasons. First, I like the aquatic theme. I feel it's really underutilised in this hobby. You get the occasional monster or walking bipedal fishmen, but as a full range it's fairly rare. Secondly, I'm a refugee from 40k who used to play Tyranids, so it's scratching all those itches well.

When I initially heard of the KS, Abyssinia was my main draw - high-tech army with a (for most games of this type, anyways) novel aesthetic. When I learned more about it, I decided to pick up Cult as a Malifaux counterpart to Earthside Abyssinia, further bolstered by the existence of the Court of Two, which with Binh is probably as close as we'll get to Three Kingdoms at present.

The problem is, KE calls to me with its Titan and those mechano-gauntlet wielders, and the reveal of the Cult/Gibbering Hordes crossover commander makes me feel like having some Gibbering Hordes might also be prudent.

I'll have to monitor the funding as it gets closer to the end, but I'm considering upgrading from my Dual Commander to Tyrant, then getting mostly Abyssinia and Cult addons.

KE it is ;) ! Untill you get enough KE and follow up with GH. The beauty of pre-assembled mini's is that you can really do a lot of work in a shorter ammount of time. This remains my biggest draw to the game despite me likely removing every model from the base so I can make it scenic.

I do hope we get a bit more fluff/background soon. I'd certainly hate to go all in on The Gibbering Hordes and having them/Meridion turn out really lame. Like, as far as Tyrants are concerned, he/she seems to be doing well since he/she's got a whole endless army after being exiled to the depths of the sea. A whole lot better at the whole "Tyrant" thing than December with his "foiled at every single turn by the person he's supposed to be possessing" shtick.

They also seem to have got off a bit light, just being forced underwater. Obliteration got locked away out of time and space and even with Tara pulling overtime he doesn't appear to be going anywhere soon.

But kudos to The Governor, who appears to have done more in his failed ascension than any of the actual Tyrants.

Agreed, I may not have seen much of them, but Binh Nguyen looks amazing. My profile picture is case in point. So far I think I will be focusing on the cult, but I still like the look of the hordes. Of course, playing on vassal means that I have the luxury of not focusing on a single faction.

The Gibbering Hordes are denizens of old Malifaux, before the fall of the Tyrants.

I think the Hordes where driven back but Meridion is somewhere else. If I'd had to make a wild guess on how the Gibbering Hordes came to earth I think it actually would be trough evalution. Many of the Gibbering Hordes looks actually are more akin to that of lizards and bugs than that of actual aquatic creatures. So I wouldn't be surpised that this is also where they evolved from to the point that eventually (now) they could escape and 'survive' the journey trough the depths of the ocean.

I don't think being exiled to the depths of the sea is a bad choice if your dealing with creatures like lizards and bugs who generally speaking are not well equiped for swimming/diving. What the Tyrants possibly didn't forsee is that the 'old gibbering hordes' could evolve in such a way that they suddenly became half aquatic or aquatic enough to board the mainlands again.... These are all just wild guesses though!!

Lastly I do agree that the old Governor General now has the massive power he wanted, but I highly doubt his intentions where to it being manivested this way. Instead I fully believe this is Cherufe's doing. The flame changes people altough I think it's not for the better of Earthside :D

Meridion is specifically given as the name of one of the 13 Tyrants to Perdita in the M2E rulebook. So they're definitely a Tyrant. It'll be interesting to learn more about them.

Yep don't mind my sleepy eyes.

Gibbering Hordes seem to be set on unleashing their Tyrant  :D . Will cut out the non-relevant speculation part!

Otherwise I do not believe the intention of the GG was to become the Burning Man in this form ;)

We seem to be very much on the same page!

Long live the Court!

Such a cool name!

I'm going for cult first and foremost; I'm just naturally drawn to weirder, "evil" factions - in WH40 I play orks and tyranids, in malifaux I mostly play neverborn and ressers, in guild ball I play morticians, you' get the idea. So the cult is just another in a long line of that for me. I have a massive nerd-boner for horror and such.

that said. I'll probably also be buying King's Empire for recruitment purposes; I find a tabletop set up with a "good vs evil" feel to it attracts the most people. and I'll be buying gibbering horde for myself further down the line for the same reason as cult. I have zero interest in the other who's name escapes me.

Have to be honest, love the Abyssinia machines but feel there is a lack of tribalism/roots. As soon as these briljant minds would also walk around like the Abyssinian princes they are Id totally dig it.

However its not to say it cannot come! Some Voodoo mixed in with their soulstone background could be awesome. The same applies for lion mantles.

Voodoo has nothing to do with Ethiopia (its roots lie on the other side of the continent). Neither does tribalism, really. They've been christian since at least the 4th century*, and before that had more in common with their neighbors in the Arabian peninsula and to the north in Egypt. It was also one of only two African nations to retain independence from colonial powers (up until 1935, but were liberated in 1941).

*Religion in Ethiopia is actually really fascinating but not in a way that would really be transferrable to a tabletop fantasy game. A colleague of mine is a specialist in spirit possession and the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and while academically interesting its not as exciting as that sounds.

Neither does superb technology or soulstones.

Point being is that I feel the design of TOS in no way should be restricted completely to real life history.

There is a difference in adding stuff for the sake of coolness and I believe tribalism is allready included but could be put on there more.

Just look at the crow feathers and warpaint. Added other animal aspects such as Lion robes and skulls would blend in perfectly in my opinion. It would be a mix of nature and technology, very fitting to Wyrds representation if Abyssinans so far.

Voodoo is not even an African religion. It is a mix of African religions and Christianity that formed during the slave trade.

I like the idea of it being more strongly based in Ethopia as it gives it a stronger flavor. I am not against some borrowing from various other countries, but I like it being strongly tied to Ethopian culture. Just like I prefer the King's Empire to be British than some general European faction.

Of course, it is expanding, just as I would like to see Indian and other various non-British troops in the King's Empire due to colonialism, I think it would be cool to throw in other African cultures to represent those who have been conquered or otherwise ruled by Abyssinia. These conquered people (whether by KE or AB) are part of their empires after all and history has shown they often fight for their rulers in war, even outside of their home countries.

TL;DR I sorta agree with you. I like it to be based strongly in Ethopian culture (not exactly, but strongly) sprinkled with the various cultures that the Abyssinia Empire has conquered.
