The Promise

They told her "you don't have fear everything's gonna be okay. We're with you and we'll keep you save. As long as you're with us you're save, we look after you!" But they lied! She's had fear, nothing's got okay. All got killed.

"You don't have to fear everything's gonna be okay. I'm with you and I'll keep you save. As long as you're with me you're save. I'll look after you!" she too had promised Mopsi. And one thing she knew for certain: SHE would keep her promise!

I wanted to make a quick project. Save from some highlights I finished the project on a weekend workshop with some friends. The last highlights however had to wait almost half a year since another workshop.

A personal miniature from a hard time. But the theme fits my mood back then. Some morbid way to represent how I saved my inner child through some extreme times.

This is another one I've done during a big crisis in my live. I got a lot of strength out of it. By building and painting some kind of "never give up" message I regained lots of lost mental strength.

The next Picture I'll show will be a happier one, I promosie.

It helps me to create athomsphere (and make phew, phew or other funny noises while painting).

Actually I'm very quiet while painting too.

 

As promised next one is a more cheerie one. I liked all the flyers when they where released. So I was very happy when at last a Space Wolve flyer was released. I wanted it to get a more aeroplaney style, so I've did some scratchbuilding.

Next one is mostly two years old. But it waited for the right base and the last brushstrokes. A small gift for a friend. Made from leftovers from the Orkflyer.

This one is an actual one. In the germen painting forum i'm active we have some kind of "c'mon everybody lets do some dwarfs" thingy.

First I was not that much interestet. But at the time I found my old miniatures from the 80s in our cellar. So I took one of the old grumpy dwarfs and tried to make somthing quick. But I should have known: quick painting and me will never happen. Mostly everything is scratchbuilt.

The story is about a dwarf who was quiet upset about a not so well tapped pint of beer. Leading in the demolition of the pub. The moment shown is when he walks away in the night.

The first batches are ready. Nice to paint, but not more. But I'm looking forward to playing with the painted figures! I was looking for something I could play with my wife. I should not paint the figures "disgusting".

I finished the mice. Yes, there are still moldlines on it. And yes, the bases are extremely simple.
I'll leave it that way. I have already spent almost twice as much time as I had planned. I like the result very much. But I left the bases so washed out that they fit a bit better on the game board.

Mice & Mystics board game. Although if you're interested in this type of stuff in general, I know Reaper makes "mouslings", standalone figs in somewhat similar theme.

I like how these look. Nice and colourful. Should work well in their intended role.

As Nikodemus said: Mice and Mystics. If you just want the mice for painting, maybe the actual Kickstarter "Mouse Adventure" from Cartonn Miatures is something for you.

After 25 months, the time has come: my Diorama is finished.

For a very long time I wanted to implement the DOOM cover (first game) as a diorama. And also something similar to Roman Lappat's great "Last Light" in a smaller version.

When I started the diorama, I just wanted to use stuff I already had, so the Space Wolve got it against the demons. Otherwise, it has nothing to do with 40K at all. Likewise, I wanted to take it easy. That's why I only slightly modified the demons. But anyway, I have built about a dozen, and only two completely out of the sprue.

Very helpful was that I was pretty much at the beginning of the diorama again on Roman's beginner's workshop. I used that to learn to paint white and black. He was able to give me valuable tips for the entire color scheme. My goal was to create a dark, bleak mood. Therefore, there is not so much variance in base and demons. Unfortunately, I can not find my inspirational pictures any more - so you just have to believe that I managed the mood I wanted pretty well. : Wink:
From Roman came the idea with the nylon threads on the swords. I think that's really great, so it comes again extremely dynamic in the diorama. And I could visualize the movement as in a comic.

The hobby butterfly in me was then responsible for a longer break. And the really good tip from the painting forum, that I should better fill the gap on the skulls of the demons, has brought the project to a standstill. But last year I decided to finish the project. There are supposed to be people who feel really comfortable surrounded by WIPs - I'm not one of them.

Very, very important to me was the composition of the diorama. Since I have made in advance a lot of thoughts about it: where are priorities, how do I lead the view of the beholder, how do I bring in pure dynamics, etc. Even towards the end, I had for each demon approximately an hour thinking and trying until I was satisfied with its position.

When I finished it, I was really happy with the result. You always have such an idea and then do not know how it actually gets. Here I had more of a feeling, or a mood that I wanted to implement. And I think I achieved it pretty well.

So, now enough text, here comes what you are all keen on: the pictures!

Finally, the question remains, if I want feedback. I'm not sure. I am always happy to receive helpful comments and tips. At the same time, I got a pretty good idea of what I wanted to do and what I did not want to do about the creative process. What does not help me is a comment that e.g. orange to the blue would look great: I know that, but makes a very different mood. :whistling:

What I am looking forward to are your thoughts on mood, composition etc. especially with your thoughts on theory - I like to learn. And I also like to answer questions. : Up:

Good work, it turned out well.

I don't really have the words or knowledge to give much of a feedback. I enjoy the contrast of a lone white knight surrounded by the numberless dark horde. Night time scene seems well executed. Realistically the knight seems a bit too lit for that, but for mood/atmosphere that works great. With scenes like this I'm always hopeful for the hero... but it does look rather hopeless. Not surprised you named Last Light as an inspiration.

Really love the dioramas, mate, especially the 'Meat for the Meadgod'. I think you managed to draw contrast between the lone Space Wolf among the Bloodletters quite vividly, great composure. I love the bloodletters blackish colour scheme, but I think the colours are too close to the terrain making the bloodletters 'blend in' with the environment. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I just have a peculiar taste for colour varieties. Great work, keep it going, I look forward for more of your piece!  👍

I'm reworking my hobby space. Great options for storage are coming from hobbyzone.  As I want my paints not too far away I put them in front of the drawers in a way that I always have an opening to one of the drawer segments.

@NikodemusThanks for the info about the pictures. The forum where I posted them got a new software and unfortunately all the pictures got lost...

I'll look for a new place to safe them. The host I store pictures like those of my workspace makes them a bit smaller so I want a host where they stay in the bigger size.

After a private coaching with Roman Lappat (Jarhead, Massive Voodoo) I was totally hyped to put my new knowledge into a diorama. I had alternative Reva in my drawer for some time and she fitted a 80s style fantasy diorama quite well. The diorama is my interpretation of Frnak Frazetta's "Woman With A Scythe". Colors and most of the color placement I took from the original.

I painted everything with only four colors and black and white. It was great fun and I learned a lot.

Very cool dioramas! A reference to Someone Else, just like nostalgia for childhood. Simply the best!
