Bazlord_Prime Posted September 15, 2016 Report Posted September 15, 2016 Ahoy, all! So I flicked through the new FAQ and saw this: 63) When a Gremlin deals damage and activates the Dumb Luck Trigger, does the gremlin take half of the total damage flipped, or half of the damage actually put onto the target? For example, if Dumb Luck caused the target to suffer 4 damage, but the target had Armor +2, reducing that damage to 2, would the Gremlin take half of the original 4 damage, or half of the 2 damage suffered after accounting for Armor? - The Gremlin takes half of the total damage flipped, so the Gremlin in the example would suffer 2 damage (4 divided by 2). This answer applies to any Triggers which generate something based on the amount of damage suffered by the target (for example, the Desolation Engine’s Restabilize Trigger and Lelu’s Drink Blood Trigger). I've taken Rami before in a Wong list, and made him the "Ooo Glowy" target. That adds +1 damage to his output, so on a Dumb Luck trigger he's doing 9 severe dmg. I had assumed that half of that, rounded up, is the amount of damage that he'd do back to himself (and I'm sure I read somewhere that was the case), but reading the above I'm now wondering... It reads as if the +1 damage doesn't apply to the Dumb Luck effect. I know the example given above is slightly different to this one, but it does say "half of the total damage flipped"... Quote
Vorschlag Posted September 15, 2016 Report Posted September 15, 2016 I believe it comes down to how Ooo Glowy is written because essentially their damage track adds +1 to w/m/s (if I remember correctly) and therefor the amount flipped would be the total w/m/s with Ooo Glowy already applied to the totals on the card. so 9 severe 5 damage from recoil. Of course I don't have the book with me to clarify that so may be incorrect. Quote
PositronMike Posted September 15, 2016 Report Posted September 15, 2016 Ooh Glowy says "When this model deals damage with an attack action it deals +1 damage". This combined with the FAQ rule on Dumb luck means that a glowy Rami doing severe with Dumb luck would do 9 (8 flipped and +1 from glowy) damage to the target and 4 (half flipped damage) damage to himself. Bazlord_Prime Posted September 22, 2016 Author Report Posted September 22, 2016 Thanks both. As usual, i can see how both sides of this one can be defended. The original Dumb Luck trigger says the originating model "suffers damage equal to half of the amount the target suffers", which makes it sound like the OP in the FAQ question would be right in thinking that the blow-back is calculated after Armour reduction, etc. But that's been ruled against now. So that same ruling kinda also applies to any extra damage that Dumb Luck applies from things like "Ooo Glowy". But it doesn't quite feel right. Just cause of the wording on the card - "suffers". Hmmm... Not a biggy anyway. What fool would go putting "Ooo Glowy" on a model that's blowing itself to pieces at the same time... Quote
