Virtus Posted September 6, 2016 Report Posted September 6, 2016 One of my friends that I enjoy playing Malifaux with has gotten big into the Gremlins faction, and he always likes throwing in Trixiebelle in his lists. I'm having trouble dealing with her ability to cheat initiative every turn with my two masters, Hamelin and Von Schill. Von Schill is currently new and running the out of the box list with some generic upgrades. How do you deal with Trixie's cheat initiative ability in Outcasts? Quote
admiralvorkraft Posted September 6, 2016 Report Posted September 6, 2016 I mean, with Hamelin you basically have uncontested control of the bottom of the turn. Swing something big in and take her out. Von Schill has a bit more trouble, but playing like you're going to lose initiative is a good idea anyway. It's hard, but doable. Quote
boots468 Posted September 6, 2016 Report Posted September 6, 2016 Hamelin (via one upgrade) has the option of hiring Iggy and Candy, who both have the incite spell. Winning initiative isn't that useful when you're forced to activate a trash Bayou Gremlin off in one corner first... Von Schill has it trickier (as usual...), but as the above poster says, positioning your models expecting to lose initiative is generally a good idea. If the game comes down to needing to win initiative or you lose, something else has gone wrong first. Quote
Cedar Posted September 6, 2016 Report Posted September 6, 2016 Personally I used Lazarus once to blast some gremlins around her(and harm her with blast markers), but more funny option is Hannah with her Make a new entry- copy Trixibelle's Gremlin "lure" and push her towards Hannah. You can also try more direct approach with Strongarm Suit or in case of Hamelin- with Rat King to charge Trixie if she has Blight, or when she doesn't- charge with rat king(remember to put him into base to base contact for slow), then Obey him for rat catcher and rat. Remember, Trixie on her own doesn't have any defense abilities- she relies on friendly models/cheating/burning soulstones, which could be very resource intensive. Quote
CapnBloodbeard Posted September 6, 2016 Report Posted September 6, 2016 I have absolutely no idea how to deal with any gremlins. Massive activation advantage, and they're so darn hard to kill because of the squee! trigger. Schill's ability to leap and charge from one model to the next helps, but of course if they just squee away then you've wasted your 2nd AP. Which is really frustrating. May be the sort of game where you want 2 trappers. Quote
admiralvorkraft Posted September 7, 2016 Report Posted September 7, 2016 It's one matchup where Scout the Field Hans can actually be really satisfying. That first activation of the first turn, focus-kill the slop hauler... God that's good. Quote
Freman Posted September 7, 2016 Report Posted September 7, 2016 Weather the storm then target nearby Gremlins with focused shots from Lazarus and a Specialist and blast her 8 wounds off. Once she's dead the problem is resolved. Or ignore her and plan your game around always going second. Half the time you would anyway, so you should be planning conservatively regardless. Quote
