Ergonomic Cat Posted August 29, 2016 Report Posted August 29, 2016 I am very new to Malifaux, and was gifted in to my collection. I ended up with 10T and Neverborn (and I posted this same question over in the NB boards) as a base. I'm trying to look forward and plan where to go in 10T next. Right now, I have a Shen Long box plus a few - Shen Long, Peasants, Sensei Yu, High River Monks, Low River Monks, 10T Archers, Katanaka snipers, Mr. Graves and 10T Brothers. I'm wondering if there are any other 10T masters that I can pick up who will be able to do most of what they need with their box and what I have. Ideally with no extra models, but realistically, with the purchase of a couple models. If those couple models are also useful to the faction as a whole, that would be ideal.... From the Neverborn side, it seems like I have most of a Jacob Lynch list already, but I'm not really sure what he does on the 10T side. Quote
Tokapondora Posted August 29, 2016 Report Posted August 29, 2016 Lynch is a very solid counterpart to Shen. I'd say the only thing you'd need is a big beater like Izamu and you're set to go (or, Yin and Ama no Zako because they both play well with Huggy and Lynch's high hands). Or you could pick Misaki who brings Ototo. Or Mei Feng with Kang. Really, with your collection you have just about all schemerunners you'll need so you just need a master and models that do some serious hurt. I'd go for Lynch, especially since you have some darkened models already. He generally just supplies a consistently high card hand and discardable aces, so models with Flurry/Obey+terrifying/TTBrothers play real nice with him, so pairing him with something that becomes even scarier with the right cards (Ama) shines even brighter. And of course the Illuminated are some amazing models as well. His killyness paired with Shen's adaptability give you a crew that excells at all out war and one that shines in objective-based play. asrian Posted August 29, 2016 Report Posted August 29, 2016 Again, just like the NB board response, I will highly recommend Lynch. Just like there with Lilith's Tots, Lynch will couple nicely with things like your Archers and especially your 10T Brothers. Lynch, and every 10T master for that matter, love Sensei Yu. Snipers are always solid models for any crew. Long store short, Buy Lynch! Quote
Drowsheep Posted August 30, 2016 Report Posted August 30, 2016 I'll say take Misaki, but that's because she's my favorite. She's really good at killing stuff (Specifically whatever she's stalking), and she's got some cool movement tricks. Misaki is a good master to have since she can work well with whatever kind of crew, strategy, or schemes you have. Shenlong and Misaki are my most played Masters. Lynch is very good, but I usually run him with more tanky models to cover him. A lot of what you have are support, or ranged shooters, so you probably want to get a few more melee models. McCabe is also a fun master, especially with all of the minions you have, you can do some fun stuff with him. Yan Lo is kinda funky to play with, and requires his own crew, so I won't recommend him. The Brewmaster is very fun, but always feels like a Gremlin, not TT. And Mei Fang wants the constructs, so (while she is cool), she's probably not for you. I haven't tried out Asami yet (though she looks awesome!!! I need to get her assembled...) Ultimately, what do you want to do: Shenlong: support but has the potential to go super saiyan (sic) Misaki: hunts and kills one model at a time or becomes a major distraction for you crew to do the work Lynch: Damage. But he's difficult to run since you often want him to go later in the turn. McCabe: support again, but with great mobility and a focus on buffing up your minions Yan Lo: a caster, he can get super powered by upping his chi, and, with his upgrades, can change strategies midway through the game, I often have him as a mix of DPS and control . Brewmaster: a control master, Brewmaster doesn't have a lot of attacks that deal damage, he's more into messing with the enemy's WP and tying them down. Asami: a special kind of caster with good support, but again, I haven't played her. 1 Quote
Wake of Godzilla Posted August 30, 2016 Report Posted August 30, 2016 Lynch is a great shout, he should work well with what you have. If you have a bit of extra cash maybe pick up the Lone Swordsman to add into the mix - he works well with both. Next would be the Shadow Emissary. That should give you everything you need for a while. 1 Quote

Seemed serendipitous that someone would post one up on a trade board for $20 as everyone tells me to buy it, so couldn't say no! 1 Quote

The Schemes & Stones discussion of the Emissary drawing 3 cards a turn with a Low River Monk seems too good to turn down. Quote

Given that I forgot to list the Lone Swordsman, as Godzilla pointed out, does he fill that big beater role? He certainly *seems* to.... Quote
InvokeChaos Posted August 31, 2016 Report Posted August 31, 2016 Lone Swordsman is a ballistic missile that fits very well in a shen long crew. But he's not very sustainable. You send him in with a high hand, kill enough to warrant his points and try to keep him alive long enough to really give you the edge. But he is GOING to die. So I don't know that I would put him in the big beater role so much as the assassin role. Big beaters are like Izamu, Shadow Emissary, Kang and Ototo. They are stalwart models that really can take a hit and dish it out too. Emissary is quite possibly the best model in faction right now because he focuses easily, has a 6 severe damage with a potential repeat trigger, hands out fast to your upgraded henchman/enforcers and has wonderful utility. I'd say if you could pick up an emissary, you're probably set. I often run Shen with Yu, Emissary, Sniper, low river monk, scheme runners and a damage dealer (currently jorogumo but lone swordsman is a favorite too). Lynch runs great on an illuminated or two with a couple of depleted for tarpitting, brilliance bombing and activation control. Throw in a sniper, the emissary or yu and a couple of 10T bros and you have scheme running, hitting power and the amazing ranged threat of the Katanaka Sniper. Quote
Eclipse Posted September 1, 2016 Report Posted September 1, 2016 Given that I forgot to list the Lone Swordsman, as Godzilla pointed out, does he fill that big beater role? He certainly *seems* to.... Rather then a 'big beater' he is 'glass cannon' - you point him at something and (usually) it evaporates. He might die afterwards, but, oh well... Big beaters would be models that can both take punishment and give some - to varying degrees. Like Ototo, or Kang. Most prominently: The Emissary, which is awesomesauce. Quote
