Popular Post Schoko
Hi to all, my name is Nikolaj and I started collecting some 40k miniatures about a year ago (with 34 ). I loved painting those little guys at the beginning, but without having an option to play, I got bored by painting the same kind of figure over and over again. At the beginning of this year a fellow told me about Malifaux ... I really liked the style of the setting and the artworks, but was sceptical about the model-quality (I was told GW is producing the BEST plastic) ... I bought a test-model (Ryle) and I was really impressed about the quality itself but also about how well the style of the artwork was transfered to the model. Surprisingly two more fellows in my team also were interested in Malifaux, so I decided to sell the whole GW-Stuff and buy a bunch of malifaux boxes (The Kin, So´mer, Ulix, War-Pig, Haulers, Piglets and Gracie)... a lot of stuff to paint now ... I also had two games were recently. My gremlins (Kin only so far) were crushed... but it was damn fun. So here are my first painted gremlins. I start with Gracie (it´s the last model I painted) ... more pictures of some of the Kin will follow (have to take some pictures... and without a lightbox I am a little dependent on the weather)
Popular Post Schoko
So, now here are my first Lacroix-Gremlins (+ a hauler)... I applied two coats of varnish to those, which was a big mistake I think. I applied a gloss varnish first and a matt coat after that. Now, the colors appear somehow darker and less fresh than before. Furthermore they they still look very glossy. That´s a little bit annoying (especially while I think Raphael is the most iconic gremlin miniature)... but we live to learn.

Schoko
Hi you, thanks a lot for your kind comments. I am German and living in Bremen/Germany ... (no Russian or Polish speaker ) Since varnishing seems to be a crucial part of miniature painting I´ll definitely give it a try if I can find it here and I am thankful for any tip about it... With only using matt (vallejo) on Gracie it seems to look a lot better (but I have the feeling the colors were even there more vibrant before varnishing)
Stark
Just now, Schoko said: I am German and living in Bremen/Germany ... (no Russian or Polish speaker ) So saaad(( I was hoping to play with you and your nice guys)) Vallejo matte varnish is far not good as good the AK (necessarily ULTRA matte), Vallejo can change colors and doing some muddy white if there thick layer)

Schoko
So, the Warpig is done. I lost patience a bit at the end, so it didn´t became the best miniature I ever painted. I tried the AK Ultra Matte and must say this stuff is really, really matte. I love it. So again @Stark, thanks for the advice.

Popular Post Schoko
Since I had black five Bayou-Gremlins for a long time in front of me and couldn´t get my ass up, I decided to paint something different to get back my enthusiasm. I bought a Nicodem-Box (I don´t know if I will ever play them, but I always loved the models) and picked up my brush again ... the therapy worked: right after that I was able to paint those five gremlins in a row. Now I am happy to have the choice to paint something green or something more undead ... photo-quality is - as usual - not the best, but I hope you still like them:

Burnin' Coal
Great brushwork and nice basing...I very much like the subdued skin tone...VERY much
Schoko
Thanks a lot man. Yeah I want my Minis to look a bit subdued - especially the skin. Sidenote: I did the skin of somer a lot brighter then I usually did, since my other gremlins seem to need daylight or a daylight-lamp to look good and I want my minis to be noticeable on the gaming table too . DrEvilmonki
Really lovely work, very characterful bases as well.
Schoko
Haha ... someday I will probably. Need more practice in actual gaming first.
Groundhog
Fantastic work! Can I ask what your gremlin skin "recipe" is?
Schoko
Sure. I always use these colors for the skin: - the olive-green is my base color - then I use the shown "drakenhof nightshade" - after that I start mixing up freely the colors from dark to bright ... so I have no real recipe for that, but I can say that I never use 70891 or 70914 unmixed. - for somer I used much less of 70891 and almost mixed 79894 and 70914 directly - for the brightest highlights I mix off-white in After that, but that is a general thing for every type of skin, I add a very thin red glaze to the knees, elbows, noses, etc. (It´s a nice complementary contrast with the green and easy to do, so I absolutely recommend to do that.) You can use any kind of red for that ... at least that´s what I do. If I have some red on my palette I use it for that. Hope that helps.
Groundhog
Thanks! The blue and red shade/glazes are an interesting touch, going to give them both a try.
