4thstringer Posted January 18, 2016 Report Posted January 18, 2016 I feel like I haven't seen much discussion of any Wave three models besides the Brutal Emissary. The Emissary is interesting enough to lead to a lot of conversation, but I really haven't seen anyone expecting interest in the Sanctioned Spellcaster, the Mounted Guard, or even the starter box models. I've messed with the Sanctioned Spellcaster with a number of different masters, including in henchmen led games during our campaign. I found it good, but the fact is more and more crews are bringing pushes and other abilities that will let them avoid him even if I get him pumped up. During that campaign I used Master Queeg. Having a guild standard gun plus an interesting number of triggers on his whip made him worth using, but I haven't had any interest since then. I've used some changelings with lucius in guild (which was awesome with a FK trapper and a beckoner or performer). I didn't have as much luck using them with an austringer. Haven't tried the starter pack guys, or Greed. So what are you using from the Wave 3 models? Quote
LordZombie Posted January 18, 2016 Report Posted January 18, 2016 My community just got the book in, so they really have not even known about the new models. I feel the whole problem with proxies and copies of the cards stop most from trying out the new stuff. Quote
Rathnard Posted January 19, 2016 Report Posted January 19, 2016 From the Guild, I've thus far tried Master Queeg, Dr Grimwell and the Orderlies. I've also played against Nurse Heartsbane, the Brutal Emissary and Greed, so the only ones i haven't yet seen are the Sanctioned Spellcaster and Mounted Guard. Quote
Ludvig Posted January 19, 2016 Report Posted January 19, 2016 I've proxied Queeg and the Emmissary a couple of times. I stay away from proxies outside of beta tests since I feel it confuses things to proxy with other wyrd models. I would never be able to bring myself to use models from the earlier games I've played, it would ruin the sanctity of Malifaux. I'm eagerly awaiting models for the mounted guard and changelings. I feel they will bring a lot to Lucius. Greed, a lurer and a couple of changelings will be tasty! Straight up 4 damage on everyone! Gets past those annoying black joker flips for damage. As far as waiting for models I'm really hoping Wyrd finishes the Crossroads releases first. I really really really need wardens and to some extent pistolieros more desperately than spellcasters. Ryin Posted January 19, 2016 Report Posted January 19, 2016 In the guild, I have used Queeg, which I loved, Mounted Guard which are amazing, Brutal Emissary with Justice, Perdita and McMourning, which I thought was good in all instances but pretty gross with Justice. Greed i ran with Lucas once and won an enforcer brawl with (not that that is any indication of usefulness) but she's a scheme runner annihilator. One shots tots. I've used all of the crossroads 7 except Pride and Wrath. Wanted to put Pride in a Lucius list though. Sloth is a very excellent choice with a McCabe crew as well, btw. And I have used Changelings in a Lucius crew with Envy and a dop which is pretty sick. Only thing I haven't really used are the sanctioned spellcasters, even though i absolutely love the concept of them, but I think Guild's wave three was pretty solid (though not nearly as good as the ressers >.<) Quote
admiralvorkraft Posted January 19, 2016 Report Posted January 19, 2016 I just got the starter set and got a game in with Sonnia and it was a blast. Being able to run a Guild crew full of movement tricks and close combat threat was a great change of pace. Differences in academic discipline aside, McMourning likes having Grimwell around as the only in faction beater that can keep up with him. Heartsbane's crow trigger is superb - 6" of movement on a Master for 2 damage? Yes please. Combined with the Brutal Effigy that's 6" of free movement for someone like Sonnia. Plus the nurse has a (0) action move so she can nearly keep pace with whoever she's pushing. Lucius is going to get a kick out of the orderlies, and I'm going to see if he can't get 6 stones worth of work out of the Wretches. As for the other models? I love Queeg to death, he's our budget Sybelle after all. The mounted guard has potential for fun themed lists, and I may run the Spellcaster with Hoffman, just to try and hold the ball together. I have serious issues with the emissaries. I won't run them for the same reason I won't run double Austringers or Papa's Favorite Box. Quote
Ludvig Posted January 19, 2016 Report Posted January 19, 2016 Admiral: Would you care to elaborate on the emmissaries? I hadn't really considered them overpowered or unenjoyable to face. Quote
Cadaverousbirth Posted January 20, 2016 Report Posted January 20, 2016 I've played a few games with Greed and I like her aura trickery. Making your opponent choose between cards/stones or damage is a fun mind game. They can completely negate her big attack, but that means less damage reduction in the future. She's fun in small games but I don't see too much synergy with her and the Guild Masters at a regular 50. Definitely not a bad model by any means, but she won't fit into a restricted pool in tournaments for me. Really excited for the Mounted Guard to come out. Just being able to run the gimmick of a cavalry force will be a joy to play. Quote

I hadn't really considered them overpowered or unenjoyable to face. It's less that they are overpowered - though I think a case could be made, for the Carrion Emissary especially - and more that they are an easy pick. They have fantastic built-in synergy with most of the masters in the game (because that's how they were designed) and are baseline above the curve for models in the price range based on stats/abilities. They pair solid support with solid offense and (in some cases) incredible scheming tech. There are probably more efficient specialist models in the 10ss range, but the Emissaries really do play like faction-themed Mary Sues. I would point you back to the OP, who observed that discussion of the Emissary had pretty much drowned out the rest of the wave three models. Default choices are boring to me, which is why I lumped it in with duel Austringers and Papa's Box. Now, the Emissaries had an impossible niche to fill from the start so it's hardly a surprise that they came out as annoying as they are (to me). I think Wyrd did their best to follow through on their promise re: Avatars, and I respect that. I'm also happier with the Emissaries than I was with the Avatar beta cards (and happier than I am with the campaign Avatars). 2 Quote

Don't know about Wave 3 beta Avatar, nor I tried them in campaign, but I did like how they worked in 1.5. Albeit not every one being same power level, they were fun (loved the trigger mechanic) and quite thematic. This said, my only proxy atm is right an Avatar in place of an Emissary Not tried it yet, though. First, I'll have to assemble it, I suppose... Ryin Posted January 21, 2016 Report Posted January 21, 2016 I have the lady Justice Avatar ready and painted. It's what I have used when i have wanted to proxy the Emissary, but I SHOULD slap down my Perdita Avatar so that I can not be able to use it on the field in any kind of reasonable manner. Quote
Astrella Posted January 21, 2016 Report Posted January 21, 2016 I've used a lot of them already from different factions, but my main opponent and I play over Vassal so... Quote
TheTrans Posted January 27, 2016 Report Posted January 27, 2016 I've got some Mounted guard that I converted up. Made them up to run with a full mounted/dog McCabe list: 1 Quote
Ryin Posted January 28, 2016 Report Posted January 28, 2016 Those are pretty interesting proxies ^ ^ I usually just use the lone marshal for friendly games. I dunno how they are going to make them look different. Quote
TheTrans Posted January 28, 2016 Report Posted January 28, 2016 3 of them are mccabe horses just slightly reposed. I'd say the Mccabe ones are actually easier to do things with than the loan marshall. Quote
