Squirrelich
I just got recently started in Malifaux, and I absolutely love it. I've talked it up enough that several of my friends have expressed interest in getting a demo from me (rather than the local Henchman because I've gamed with them for years). I thought that Henchman Hardcode would be a good mode to teach the rules with. I also recently got the LE Barbaros from Black Friday and thought it would be nice to have a different faction to demo with rather than just doing my Archanists v. more Archanists. So I'm wondering what would be good models to buy in order to create a Henchman Hardcore crew led by Barbaros. Its for demo purposes so it doesn't need to be extremely competitive. I don't have plans to bring it to a full 50SS crew (yet, though someday it may be nice to grow it enough to do a fixed list tourney) Thank you everyone for your thoughts and your time. izikial
sadly your best bet would be the Lilith box, but that would give you a second barberos, the most interesting part of his kit is the push to enable grow lists, and that would work best with tots, maybe a young, and the grow upgrade that's in liliths box, I don't use barberos, so id get some othere feedback befor buying
Munindk
Barbaros, a Mature Nephilim, 2 Young Nephilim and 2 upgrades comes to 25 Soulstones. It looks cohesive and will only cost you a Nephilim box and it doesnt overlap with any master boxes. Its 5 stones over the Henchmen Hardcore format and I dont know if its competitive, but that shouldnt be an issue for demo games. A 20 stones crew could be Barbaros, Mr. Graves and 2 Terror Tots, and 1 upgrade. Its cheaper than the Nephilim box, sticks to the format but it makes buying the Lilith box later an even worse deal than it already is. RobertSirc
To be honest, I know it seems like a huge investment, but I would personally recommend the Lilith box set, then pick up the Nephilim box set after. I myself started with that and it is what help teach me the game and getting Barbie down then switching to Lilith with Barbie when I moved to 50SS games made life a lot easier. Munindk
He already has (the special edition) Barbaros which is all he would be using from the Lilith box for Henchmen Hardcore...
Squirrelich
So... what everyone is saying is just buy the starter set and then sell the guild half to someone who hopefully starts up? Keep the Neverborn half for future demo/starting point on a second faction. Thanks for the advice everyone. It sounds like I don't have as good of a starting point as I was hoping to have and it is probably as good to just start from scratch as it is to start from Barbaros. izikial
were not saying the malifaux starter, but the Lilith crew box, sadly it has barberos, another option was the nephilim box with some young's and a mature. the starter wouldn't be that bad even if you still want to use barbaros. Barbs big gimmicks are pushes and protection and that works ok with the blood wretches and the scion wretches can use there damage buff and still attack if they are fed modles by barb and they heal of kills, so being given a modle on 1 wd that they can charge at is a a easy heal the scions shotgun blasts like modles clumping up, and with the right card you can get another nice heal from a weakened modle wretches and scion both have no defensive skills meaning that barbs challenge can offer good protection
Mxbedlam
I f you could find a metal Lilith box, it doesn't have barbaros or the cherub in it, and comes with a mature.
Adran
If all you want is a Henmchman hardcore list for demoing purposes, then you can sort it with any 3 Neverborn models to go with Barbaros (changign the point level of your demo game to fit which 3 models you want). I'd consider picking models I'm likely to want in the future, because I'm lazy and cheap. A pack Of Waldgiests would give a slow but solid crew for Barbaros, (fit the 20 ss gamee size, which might be a bonus) and are a good choice for Marcus as well as any Neverborn masters you may buy later.
