horvagab
Hi all, I'm probably going to take part a in campaign come mid-Jan or so, and one of the crews I was thinking of playing is Daw. Now, as a campaign, that means I'll start with a henchman, probably Montresor as someone who is in-theme with Daw. That's fine, but so far most of the Tormented models I can find, only the Guilty seems to be in Outcasts, so I'll need to shore up my crew with some non-Tormented probably. Any good suggestions for models that I should use?
Arli
With the limited way that the campaign works, I would start with Montressor, Creeping terror, Guilty x 1, Freikorps Trapper x 1, and Freikorpsman x 1.The trapper is very useful with a Jack Daw crew. The Freikorpsman is unimpeded and has potential to be a good scheme runner. You could go with 2 guilty and a trapper also.
Rabbitknight
I would start with Rusty Alyce with Desolate Soul, hire in a couple of the heavies (Johan, Lazarus, a Convict Gunslinger, maybe merc a couple Crossroads models) and fill in activation a bit with the Rat Engine (Obedient Wretch, 2x Rat) from there you can expand into several of the masters. Freman
Agreed with above. Just because Montressor is themed with Jack Daw doesn't make him a particularly useful Henchman. In order of utility I would rank Alyce at the top, then Hannah, then Ama no Zako, then probably Taelor. Alyce was my choice, building up to the Viktorias. PeregrineFalcon
As an FYI trying to build to Jack Daw in a campaign is very very expensive. Because you have to pay for each of his special upgrades (which makes buying him + his upgrades REALLY expensive). If you're going to do it I suggest start with Rusty. With that said, I'd stay away from trying to build to Daw in a campaign, we've had a few people try it many a different ways and it just isn't fun because you have to pay for SOOO much to just get a base Daw. horvagab
Thanks for the tips, I might stay away from Daw then. Other Outcast ideas I like are going for the Viktorias, since in that case quite a few of the upgrades can be put on Viktoria of Blood (henchie?) and I can take a STudent of Conflict at the start. Rabbitknight
Again, I'd start with a "non theme" hench for the Viks, since blood costs points to take until you get ashes.
Spindle
I can vouch for the effectiveness of Rusty Alyce in a campaign. I managed to come out on top of my local league starting with Rusty and a core of Johan, a Librarian and a couple of Ronin that I built upon with a few more Freikorps and then specialised a little later. I think it's a setup that allows flexibility into most of the masters available to the Outcasts.
Freman
She is a very flexible Henchman. I started with Alyce, a trapper, a librarian, and Strongarm. Then I added Lazarus.
Sancho of Rime
I tried out the Jack Daw campaign crew. Though what with most of his crew being tormented..it was odd. Couldn't buy any nurses!! What I did was get Wrath and then build my collection of crossroads until I got Jack. Worked pretty well. Got a lot of versatility out of it then saved stones for his upgrades. Viktoria or blood is a good idea to take early in a campaign. Sure you have to pay for her later but having her early lets you get some of the stupid awesome campaign upgrades for her. Leap.. Coffee... Extended blades... Etc etc.
