Kadeton
Yikes, when you break it down it's hard to imagine why anyone works for the Guild.Joining the Death Marshals gives you the chance to protect the community, but at the expense of ever being able to live a normal life. The Witch Hunters are also protective, but their methods are horrendous - you're condoning torture, brainwashing and forced servitude. You're basically training prisoners to be suicide bombers.Latigo means isolation and constant danger, always fighting for your life against mind-twisting horrors in a literally hostile environment. The Guards are like canaries in a coal mine - they're a police force that's not equipped to handle Malifaux's esoteric threats, and they're the ones that get killed horribly so that the authorities know which specialists to send in.ACE deal with a type of necromancy that's too awful for the Death Marshals, whose creations are so offensive that they're labelled Abominations even though basically everything in Malifaux is an abomination. The Morgue has to be one of the most dangerous workplaces anywhere, since you're liable to be used as an experiment or a supply of spare body parts at any moment.Being one of the Relic Hunters seems like a quick and easy way to get a letter sent home to your mother, apologising for how they couldn't retrieve your body for burial on account of it being dissolved by acid / crushed by arcane machinery / devoured by beetles (strike whichever do not apply).Becoming a Lawyer means literally giving up your humanity. (And in the game!)(This message brought to you by the Miners and Steamfitters Union, Malifaux.)

psychogeek
People apparently don't want to work with McMourning nor join the ranks of the guard
Adran
I understand that there is currently a vacancy in the mansion. Any chance I can take that one?
ArcticPangolin
Death Marshalls, the Space Marines of Malifaux! It's close for me...Joining the Latigos seems like it might also be too much of a life commitment. Amalgamation Charter Enforcement would probably be the safest physically and likeliest not to venture too far into dangerous and/or horrible places people don't generally return from, like the Necropolis or the Bayou... but damn, that potential for deep psychological scarring...Relic Hunters would, theoretically, yield the greatest potential to retire early and rich. But then you also get to work with and fight alongside amoral scumbag piece of works.Tossing up between ACE and Relic Hunters, I chose Relic Hunters. It was nice to know you. dgraz
The couple of Ortega comments so far are things I would agree with.Constant fighting.......yep, but with plenty of support....and when you're part of the Family they'll fight for you.Isolation......yep, away from the rest of the Guild and it's rules. Latigo is a force unto itself....there's more personal freedom there than in Malifaux City (not to mention all the different life-threatening dangers there....at least in Latigo you pretty much know what's coming for you).Life commitment......yep, better that than slowing turning into one of the undead or any of the other options up there....they're all life commitments....I pick the one that values loyalty and family every day of the week and twice on Sunday. zeeblee
My decision was torn between the Law Offices and ACE since my life is a mix of bureaucracy and tech right now. Bureaucracy won out though. It seems to come with more perks
solkan
Disclaimer: Vote for Men at Arms lodged on the basis of which division pessimism and bad luck would end up getting me stuck in.Really, it makes me want to paint up a bunch of guardsmen in infrared coats and red shirts.
Gnomezilla
The gnome of Gnomezilla is a purist about constructs and clockworks. If you have to tie in soul batteries to make your creation work you are Doing It Wrong and need to have your tinkering license taken away. Amalgamation Charter Enforcement is a natural fit. Druso
Nice post! I will like to be in the Witch Hunters jus taking care of my lovely pets They do a great job on Malifaux and I like the things they do. Law Office is risky since Lucius doesn´t tolerate mistakes.OMG why whould anibody work in the Morgue? I mean once you know who works there you will be pretty scared. And yes...if you want to be death just sign in for the Guard!

Freman
Latigos for me.It would be cool to work with constructs, but Hoffman is really a one man show.
knghtpiper
Despite having Lady J as my picture, I choose the Relic Hunters, because the lootz and swag. Plus McCabe does seem like a decent guy in the fluff.
MagicGis
After the breakdown of all positions a bit above i switched my vote to the witchhunters. Sounds like I get to do all the bad stuff to the others most of the time instead of getting killed ... solid deal. It was a close call though otherwise i would work with Mc Morning Sebastian shows he has good stuff in store for you if you are a loyal and silent worker with some helpful ideas. ArcticPangolin
Plus McCabe does seem like a decent guy in the fluff. They guy who got his beloved killed out of greed.... and is a traitor to the Guild out of greed... yeah, totally decent guy.I don't think it is mostly greed though. The relic hunting is something that he has aptitude for, and he simply doesn't care to do or imagine anything else to stay ahead of his history of poor decisions, which seem to made out of a total lack of care or foresight. His link to the 10T is really due to his continued digging of his own hole.I definitely don't think he's going to live a long and happy life (barring a drastic twist in fate) and that no one, if any, will mourn his passing. Da Git
Plus McCabe does seem like a decent guy in the fluff. They guy who got his beloved killed out of greed.... and is a traitor to the Guild out of greed... yeah, totally decent guy.Traitor to the Guild?! Don't make me laugh! Traitor implies that he was loyal to begin with. McCabe never had any loyalty to the Guild as far as I've read. He was loyal to the Ten Thunders, then planted in the Guild as a double agent.I also don't think it was greed that got his beloved killed either, his weakness is Adventure. The adventure is not the means, but the end, the relics are the bonus!
AllistorPreist
Let's look at the choices:Set my head on fire and carry a giant box around... not for me.Get even shorter and risk serious burns.Hunt innocent natives who are resisting foreign occupation.Ummm... die. Lots. With a used sword.Spend your days building kickass robots to destroy bad peoples' robots. Work in the basement with a weird guy and his smelly dogI don't really know enough about the relic hunters, but I never really wanted to be a droog. And really, who can afford law school?the choice seems easy. Cinnamon Bear
After spending the evening catching up on the stories, I'd have to say I'd join up with Hoffman or Lucas, as they both have a fondness for dogs. The Relic Hunters are probably more fun to be around though. And he's pretty generous/sharing is caring.

The word is redemption. Looking back on his life, McCabe has seen the error of his ways to a degree- Selfiish, greedy, impetuous, he's had some time to think back on the mistakes that led to the death of his fiancée (though her soul might partially reside in Luna). In the Thunders, he has found a purpose, something to live for other than his own hedonistic urges, and from an early age he has had no love for the repression of the guild on his beloved London. In fact, vengeance is a word I would use. Now, while working from the shadows to control Malifaux is the primary occupation of the Ten Thunders faction, they are part of a larger organization, that of the Katanaka Clan. While politically and socially outcast as the criminal caste in their society and none too moral themselves, they also have a secret imperative. As the minor breaches have allowed humans into Malifaux outside of guild regulation, they have also allowed denizens and essences from Malifaux into earth. In the Three Kingdoms, the proliferation of the Thirsty Glass is only one such of the taints that have escaped and made themselves known. With the encroaching energies of Malifaux making their way into earth and the tyrants awakening from slumber in Malifaux, it is not just the Three Kingdoms that could be irreversibly harmed or destroyed by the dimensional conflux but all of humanity. At least, that's what they told me...The job of the relic hunters is 2-fold. Running errands and acquiring artifacts for Lucius, they keep tabs on what he is up to, allowing the Thunders a privileged position to thwart whatever his intentions are, and I guarantee you that he does not have the Guild's best interests in mind. The second more important function is in acquiring key items for the Thunders to use in subverting or preventing the rise of the tyrants from affecting earth (except for maybe Dragon cause he's kind of our god, and we've also got Darkness under our thumb, but keep your friends close...). As the Thunders have control of the library, where all of Malifaux's collective unconscious is manifested, they above all factions save for maybe the Neverborn have the ability to reweave the threads of fate for the good of existence as we know it, transcending the petty squabbles for control that define the other factions. While our means may be questionable, the ends will justify them, and nobody's means in Malifaux are without question except Lady J.Plus, we take care of our own. Relic hunters all the way!
