Hungering Darkness leading a Crew...

...does make any sense? Thread started just out of curiosity: I was wondering, why making Huggy a Henchman? Would anyone ever lead a Crew with it? Since it's free anyway, it's like trading Jakob for 4ss (difference between Huggy and Jakob cache). So, unless there's any very powerful combo with some Leader-only upgrade I'm not aware of, the only mean of making Hungering Darkness a Henchman, is allowing it to use ss..?
(Initially I thought it was a double edged benefit, as I was convinced you cannot hire two Henchmen, but apparently I was wrong: no limits on Henchmen characteristic).

Being a henchman he can carry 2 upgrades, use soulstone, count for Enourage and Bodyguard, kill models for make them suuffer, kill models for Frame for murder.

He can also lead crews in smaller games. If you are playing below 40 ss games, then you can't take Lynch, so the fact he is free with lynch is irrelevant.

I don't think I have ever seen anyone use a henchman in a games size where they can use a master (except if they are playing the Band, and have used Wrath) so it is not really a choice of Huggy and lynch Vs lynch.

I would lead a crew with it, it's just that the only environment where this is viable for me is smaller formats, such as the Shifting Loyalties campaign. We are restarting our campaign soon and I will roll with either Hungering Darkness or Fuhatsu. Why? Because of the coolness factor, because I can, most of all - because I want to. Only had one game with him leading, Henchman hardcore (25 SS) and didn't really like the format. Shifting Loyalties though? Having a small roster of models that can grow slowly and get super-duper combo abilities is rather fun (for most people :P).

Ok for the 2 Upgrades. My point anyway was, Huggy is a Henchman for the benefit that come with it, but no-one will use it to lead a Crew if Lynch is an option. Right?

I thought that @35ss you can still use a Master...

So you're saying this is true for any Henchman?

You may be right, and Master are 35+ and henchmen are upto 40 ss. I can't remember  exactly. but in the area when henchmen and Masters are both legal choices to lead a crew, a Master is always the more powerful choice. people can pick henchmen to lead for theme and to set themselves a challenge, but it is accepted that they are handicapping themsleves, and the intent is and has always been that Masters are Better than Henchmen.

So yes Its true of any henchmen, they don't lead if there is the option of a master.

Ok, thank you. Didn't realized this (still new to M2E, and never had a Henchman in 1.5. Maybe it's an impression, but they're more common now. Huggy wasn't iirc).
So this leads to a OT question: what Henchman would you point out as the more viable if forced to play one @35ss?
(Maybe the general section would be a better place for this)

Cheers LulleK for the correct points.

The new Henchmen rules are very different in concept to the 6 henchmen from First edition, but even then they were best when not leading a crew.

If you are playing a henchmen lead game, then I don't think the Hungering Darkness is any less viable than the other henchmen. His biggest issue is that you will play him differently to how you could play him with a master, as he can't have his return from the dead or his extra A.P. But other than that he has plenty going for him.
