Popular Post Lucidicide
Hello everyone, I've been involved in Malifaux, and therefore Wyrd, since 2009. I became more and more involved over the years, and there's been one thing that I love about the company (beyond the games it makes): the community. From the early days where Eric and Nathan had more time on their hands and could troll us more directly to the Rules Marshals telling us what was what... to today being on the inside and talking with the community in a whole new way, we have some amazing people out there. Thanks for that. It allows us as a company to have fun, to interact with everyone on the forum, and to stay more connected. It helps keep us passionate and engaged. And, importantly, the great community helps grow the game. Unfortunately, not everything is always sunshine and roses. There have been times where members of the community have made poor decisions or mistakes. We've banned people. People have quit. Wyrd has always seen our Henchmen program as the core drivers of our community. They often set a tone both online and in person. And we consider the tone of Wyrd to be one of respect, inclusiveness, and fun. We want everyone to be welcome in our communities and playing our games, and we rely on Henchmen to bring that forth into their communities. As such, we have created our first Code of Conduct for Henchmen, which they are required to sign to stay a part of the program. This is not a reaction to anything, but what we consider a next step in pushing our community forward in a way that is better for everyone. It is something we've been working on and discussing for a long time, and we're happy to put it forth. There are also numerous other updates happening with the Henchmen program, which will be rolled out over the next couple of months. As such, we are not accepting new applications between today and October 2015. We're going to make sure all the new people start under one program, not a transitioning program. One other step we'd like to take is to encourage everyone to provide feedback on Henchmen, when applicable. If you love your Henchman, let us know! If you have a concern, let us know that, too. The only way we can continue to drive toward a more positive, accepting community is to ask that community to involve us more. Let us know the good and the bad! We're all in this together. I'm pasting the Code of Conduct below this post so people are aware of what we expect. We hope to continue to grow our Henchman program and community over time, and hopefully this is another step toward an even greater game for us all. Thank you, The Wyrd Team
Dirial
Do only Henchmen have permission for the file? Because I'd be curious.

Justin
Just a note: if you applied to be a Henchman before today (7-13-15) your application will still be processed but it may take a bit as Gen Con prep is always a busy time.

Popular Post Lucidicide
Weird. Pasting below. Code of Conduct As a Henchman, you will be a representative of yourself, your store/club, your community, and this company. We have certain expectations and requirements in that regard. On the Forum As a Henchman, you should take extra care in how you behave on the forum. While your primary responsibility is growing your local community, you are also a part of the worldwide Wyrd community. We encourage you to be respectful and helpful on the forum even beyond the forum rules. This includes being accepting and inclusive of everyone in the community – if there is an issue, bring it to the moderators’ attention. If, for some reason, you are banned from the forum you will immediately lose your Henchman status. In addition, if you are being warned and put into moderation repeatedly you may lose your Henchman status at our discretion. In the Community It is important to remember that you will be seen as a representative of different groups, but you do not speak for those groups (for example, you may not claim or imply that you speak for Wyrd). As such, be careful about the way you speak and how you act. You must be polite and respectful at all times. Attempt to express your opinions in a way that makes it clear they are your opinions. Wyrd supports having an inclusive and friendly community. Henchmen should act with respect at all times, and do what they can to encourage the growth of the game. Any behavior that is disrespectful of a member of the community (or a potential member of the community) will not be tolerated. Enforcement Wyrd may take action for any infractions against the policy outlined above, up to and including removal from the Henchman program. Loss of Henchman status will remove any and all Soulstones you may have accumulated. You may also be removed from the program for crimes committed that we deem incompatible with our values, regardless of their relationship to our games and community. The goal of a Henchman is to expand and support the community, and the goal of the Henchman Program is to support the Henchmen. Growing and supporting the community can be difficult, and at times you may not wish to be polite. If you find yourself unable to do so, you may want to consider stepping down as a Henchman. If there is some way Wyrd may be able to help you, please let us know. Please sign below to acknowledge that you agree to the above Code of Conduct.

Lucidicide
E-mail hobby.assistant@wyrd-games.net with any feedback. We are transitioning the program to a new person, which is why the contact information isn't out there yet (it will be, though).

Eldmor
You may also be removed from the program for crimes committed that we deem incompatible with our values, regardless of their relationship to our games and community. This part of the Henchman CoC worries me since there was a recent controversy regarding this in the Magic: the Gathering pro scene. A player was lifetime banned after a content creator mentioned that the player was convicted of aggravated sexual battery 11 years beforehand, albeit in a much harsher manner. I hope that Wyrd staff uses this clause sparingly as rehabilitated individuals are also part of their community.
Popular Post Justin
This part of the Henchman CoC worries me since there was a recent controversy regarding this in the Magic: the Gathering pro scene. A player was lifetime banned after a content creator mentioned that the player was convicted of aggravated sexual battery 11 years beforehand, albeit in a much harsher manner. I hope that Wyrd staff uses this clause sparingly as rehabilitated individuals are also part of their community. This is very different. The Magic player was just that: A player. We are not going to review criminal records and ban people from playing the game based on those. But Henchmen are expected to demo the game, and that often puts them in direct contact with children in a position of authority. An individual with a record of aggravated sexual battery would never get a job at a school for the exact same reasons they would not be a Henchman. Rehabilitation is important and I believe in it, but simple pragmatism wins out in many situations. Additionally, Henchmen represent our company to a certain extent and receive compensation directly from us for doing so, again, unlike someone who is just participating in events, so it is understandable we could be more choosy about it. Finally, my only major issue with the Magic ruling is that Wizards has no clear policy about criminal offenses. If they had a clearly written policy (or wrote one at the time) and were simply acting on it, I wouldn't see the problem. They have no such policy. We do. We ask directly on the application if the individual has been convicted of a sex crime and, if they have, they don't get in. And if they are convicted of one or other such offense while they are already a Henchman, we can remove them. It's there, up front, in black and white.
netgeist
I applaud the decision to post this Code of Conduct. I've seen other companies with looser requirements often have difficulties with their volunteers. Our local henchman in Western MA is simply awesome. Inquisitor Wall and I saw Malifaux coming and jumped on it from the beginning. He has carried the torch for our local community since, and done so with grace, aplomb, professionalism and - most importantly - FUN! We have a large and very active group here and he deserves all of the credit for making it happen! - netgeist
