Abilities which discard a card such as sprint

The thing that Fatemasters follow is that they don't do Challenge flips. In order to handle "discard a card" mechanics, the Fatemaster's characters get access to Card Points. You might have to do a little fiddling, but there are a couple options. If you only need one suit (like sprint), then you can make it "discard a card point to take that action" (this is how the Terror Tots are worded in the Fatemaster's Book. If the suit actually does matter, then you have one of the players flip a card for you (like how the Stuffed Pig is worded). Hope that helps!

How do abilities such as sprint work if your not using malifaux rules if you see what i'm asking. Has anyone done a video on combat and that side of TTB?

see page 194 of the Fated Almanac under the section "Fatemaster Triggers" and page 6 of the Fatemaster Almanac under the section "Card Points"

Main thing to remember is that if a suit appears next to an Acting value or Skill listed for a FM character (NPC) it is added to the total outcome. The other thing to remember is that a FM character (NPC) can also use the suit of the 'active card' used by the player to determine the outcome. So in some instances this might be the card the player flips. In some occassions it might be the twist card the player uses to cheat Fate. A FM character doesn't use the total suit outcome of a player as it might be that the Fated character has a bonus suit included in their own AV from specialised skill talent or some other talent that adds a suit for them.

An example of this is a Fated character on the Guard pursuit with a defense (Df) of 3 :mask  derived from 2 + Evade of 1 (with the Talent: Skill Specialisation- Evade: Masks) and the Pursuit Talent Stoic Defender (p. 145 Fated Almanac) being attacked by a Catalan Rifleman (p. 163 FM Almanac) which is a minion. Looking at its stats as a minion it is rank 5 so it has 1 Card Points to use (p. 7 Fatemaster Almanac). NOTE: The Fated Guard is using Evade skill as Df and not their Speed of 1 because they want to add the :mask to their Df AV and this is only useable if the skill is included.

Initative has been flipped and the Catalan starts the turn and generates 2 AP's. Wanting to finish the guard quickly so as to reach the individual she is escorting the Rifleman spends 2 AP and 1 card point to activate Rapid Fire. The Catalan's remaining card points are lowered from 1 to 0. FM declares the Catalan shoots the Fated who attempts to avoid the attack needing a Target number (TN) of 10. The player flips a 4 :ram and adds their defense of 3 :mask resulting  in a total of 7 :ram:mask which fails to avoid the attack with no extra margins of failure. Looking at the Catalan the FM sees he has the trigger :ram Critical Strike which he activates. With an AV of Longarms 5 :ram the FM adds the active card 4 :ram and sees that the total for the Catalan includes :ram :ram  which result in an extra 2 critical damage to whatever the flip is. Knowing that he has a  :mask he can use to trigger Stoic Defender (granting -1 to damage total) and a negative flip coming the Guard decides to not cheat fate at this time. Damage is flipped resulting in a trivial hit resulting in 2 + 2 critical damage for a combined total of 4. The Player activates their trigger reducing the damage to 3. The FM goes on to declare a further two attacks against the Fated character which they will continue to try and evade.

Just note that the :mask from Evade was never a part of the suits available to the Catalan because it was not derived from an active card. Made us a bit crazy for a while when we were working from the total outcome of a duel for triggers rather than just the active card and relevant AV/Skill adds from FM characters.

Hope this helps somewhat. We've found we need to jump back and forth between books to try and find all the rules relevant to particular outcomes. We liked the way some parts of the book direct you to other relative rules but it is far from consistent.

Happy gaming.

Kind Regards,
