2 v 2 (35ss each)

Lilith & Kirai 8 v 3 Lady J & Perdita

It only took 5 hours to complete.

Game 2

Great fun had by all! And also throws up some unusual situations and powerful combos!

I talked my buddy Thor into coming over and giving M2E a try.  He got me into Malifaux years ago (i think he was even a playtester for the first book).  We both played intensely for a few years, then fell out of it.  I've been slowly playing and painting more since GenCon, and picked him up a Neverborn Arsenal deck, so he could join in.

We played a 35ss Turf War, him with Pandora, me with Hamelin.  Cracked a couple of beers.  Watched the Neverborn get sick and die.  Good stuff.  Brought back memories.

Played in a cutthroat tournament.  Only two people showed to play (plus the henchman) so we played a series of 4 games.  Managed to tie two-two every time before we would hit the card limit, flipped off for the victory.

A ton of fun, and a great opponent, but would have liked to have gotten to play with some people outside our meta.

My brother and I played a game. 50 SS, Justice vs Lynch. The latter won handily, after endlessly harassing Justice about her gambling debts. Who knew? Also, a newbie was around, and I think we managed to sell the game to him.

I ran an enforcer brawl and a painting competition. Everyone loved the enforcer brawl and had 9 people participate. Very fast. Very chaotic but still alot of fun.

The painting competition will have posts tonight on Facebook and hopefully get some love from wyrd chronicles :)

WYRD WEEKEND, Days of Open Doors and charity fundraiser all in one in Zagreb, Croatia
7.June 2014.

01.jpg

This weekend saw some extra activities within UMS "Agram". As a part of Days of Open Doors, we presented our activities and programmes to the general public. Everyone could see and participate in our Terrain Workshop, various wargaming schools (Malifaux, 40k or WHFB) or our miniature painting classes.

On saturday there was a fundraiser to raise cash for victims of recent floods in Croatia. The entry fee for open gaming was 10 kunas, while the entry fee for the Malifaux tournament was 20 kunas. However, everyone could donate how much they wanted. We also offered instant coffee at 5kunas+D6kunas, as well as refreshing beverages at the same price. In all, 900,00 kunas (around 200USD) was raised and we would like to thank everyone for their generous donations. UMS "Agram" will add further 5.000,00 kunas  (around 1000USD) to that ammount and we will be making a payment to Croatian Red Cross some time next week.

The main event of the Saturday, was definitely Bayou Bash Malifaux tournament held as a part of a special Wyrd Weekend. Tournament had 12 players competing, with Polanscak syblings taking first and third.

3. Nightmare (Seamus)

4. PrexGSI  (Viktorias)

5. Urnebesator (Misaki)

6. Walker  (Kaeris)

8. Donniedarko (Perdita)

9. Guardian  (Lady J)

10. Fidelleanor Castro (Collette)

Next to our fundraiser, UMS "Agram" members also helped the Hobby Against Floods Fundraiser organised by TomZG (of www.tomsmagazine.blogspot.com). Club members painted Flames of War miniatures that were donated for the cause by our sponsor Carta Magica. For every miniature painted, TomZG will donate 1 Euro to further help the victims of the floods. Here are some of the painted miniatures :

I went to Califaux! Played in two tournaments. Both times, I made it to the second-to-top table in the final round, then lost to the person who took second place in the tournament.

* * *

Day 1

Leveticus vs. Ten Thunders Lynch.

Reconnoiter

50ss

I used a gun-heavy Leveticus Crew against a Lynch Core Crew. My opponent made fantastic use of Depleted to grab and deny VP, and played a really strong game, but I was still able to assassinate Jakob. Favorite moment: In an attack with a negative twist, I flipped a Red Joker. My opponent noted that he had Hard to Wound, so I flipped one more card, and it was a Black Joker. Oof!

End score: win 7-3.

Leveticus vs. Gremlin Zoraida

Stake a Claim

50ss

I used a puppet-heavy obective-runner Construct Leveticus Crew (Vasilisa, Coryphee, Shadowy, Hodge, 2 Soulstone Miners, Necropunk) against a mixed Zoraida Crew (Francois, Silurids, Warpig) The big part of the action was Plant Explosives shenanigans: my opponent and I both schemed the whole game to get Plant Explosives on each other, and I managed to foil his Plant Explosives several times before he got full VP on round 4. My opponent managed to kill all my waifs and end Leveticus for good, but I won on VP from the Soulstone Miner and Necropunk running a lot of Claim Markers. Favorite moment: Me thinking I was clever putting a Hollow Waif up on top of an archway to keep her safe, and Zoraida promptly Obeying her to jump off and die.

End score: win 8-7

Leveticus vs. Colette

Reckoning

50ss

Last game of the day's tournament. Wow, ouch, I lost bad. I used a mixed Outcast Leveticus Crew (Ama No Zako, Vanessa, Lazarus, Rusty Alyce) against a Core Colette Crew. By turn one the terrain was littered with Colette's Scheme Markers, and he had Line in the Sand for sure by round one. I never got close to Cassandra for Murder Protege, and my opponent kept his Mannequins and Doves behind cover really well so I couldn't get many shots in. My opponent was new to Malifaux but a really experienced wargamer, and was really excited about the game in a very infectious way. Favorite moment: In a moment of desperation, Rusty Alyce shooting into a melee between Ama No Zako and a Coryphee Duet, and in three shots only hitting Ama No Zako (and wounding her badly.)

End score: Lost 4-0 (I may be misremembering.)

Day 2: Story Encounters

Leveticus vs. Colette

Story Encounter (treasure hunt-like objective grab)

35ss

Played a construct-heavy Leveticus Crew (Vanessa, Soulstone Miners) against a core Colette crew. Same opponent who had won the night before, and he was once against a pleasure to play against. The scenario involved an Interact with a flip, then a second interact. I tried to do something cute with having Vanessa stack the deck then use Command Construct for the Interact, and I ended up wasting time instead and my opponent quickly slipped in with a Performer and took the objective out from under me. After this weekend, I'm pretty much decided that I want to start playing Colette, because it's such a fun Crew. My opponent was able to get the first objective, plus both his schemes. I got a few points for Power Ritual and Make Them Suffer, but the game was all Colette's.

End score: Lost 7-2.

Leveticus vs. Outcast Tara

Story Encounter (supply wagon-style escort mission)

35ss

Played an Ashes and Dust core Leveticus Crew (Ashes and Dust, Lazarus, Hodge) against a Minion-heavy Tara Crew (Void Wretches and Dead Marshals, no Nothing Beast). My opponent was a little stunned that he couldn't bury Ashes and Dust. He took Assassinate against Leveticus, which I think he could have done with full points if he'd committed more resources to it (since the Void Wretches could attack him while he's buried). We both got Plant Explosives for full points. I got Assassinate by Leveticus Death Touch, and got full points for getting the wagon across safely.

End score: Won 10-3.

Leveticus vs. Guild Lucius McCabe

Story Encounter (pure objective-grabbing)

35ss

Played a puppet-heavy Pariah of Iron Leveticus Crew (Vasilisa, Coryphee, 2 Soulstone Miners) against a hound-heavy McCabe (Sidir, Luna, 2 Wastrels, 2 Hounds). The board was this beautiful surreal floating-rock terraced thing with lots of elevation. My opponent did an impressive combination, giving a hound Reactivate and Nimble and +1 Wk so it could zip across the board and take the first objective at the end of the first turn, then he mostly just avoided my heavy hitters and camped out on Scheme Markers to win the game on points. I feel like I could have turned the game around if we didn't end early (I has 2 VP I was ready to grab in turn four, but we ended after Turn Three) but it was an excellent game and my opponent played really well. I try not to dwell on what-ifs, since they don't lead to better play for anyone. I got a few Make Them Suffer hits on my enemy, and got full Plant Evidence, but my opponent got the first objective, and got both Plant Evidence and Protect Territory in an amazing display of objective-running and crew defense. Favorite Moment: When my Soulstone Miner jumped off a cliff to stop Sidir from claiming an objective marker. That stalled Sidir enough that Leveticus popped back in next turn to kill him.

End score: Lost 8-6.

Also spent a lot of time chatting, meeting awesome new people, talking about Malifaux, and driving really badly. What a great weekend! Thanks to AsYouWish78 for a great tournament, to Chuck for running stuff, to Mario for writing the Story Encounters, to the awesome folks I played against, to Justin for showing up and chatting with folks, and just generally to all the cool people I got to meet and hang with!

I have been playing a little under a year. This week-end, I entered my first tournament. 40SS, fixed-faction. 8 players. I played Neverborn. There was a Gremlin and Guild player. The rest were Outcasts and Ten Thunders (I'm not sure what one guy played though I think it was Outcast).

My first match was against a player I have never been able to beat who was playing Misaki. Collodi saved the day and eked out the win by one point. I considered this a victory regardless of whether or not I would win the tournament (he is a really great player)

I turned to Lilith in a vicious bloodbath against the Victorias. I pulled out the win again by one point thanks largely to an AWESOME Fate Hand when Lilith and the Vics went at it (and actually when initiative more than once a game).

I took Lilith to the final battle was against Von Shill. My opponent guessed correctly that I took Frame for Murder. Guessed wrong which one (partially because I misread Frame for Murder and didn't realize I needed Von Shill to kill him for the full 3 points, so I threw my Sucker at Bishop and a group of Freikorpsmen instead of Von Shill). This time I won by 2 points.

I won a crew box. I picked Marcus because I have all the Neverborn and Rezzer masters that are out in plastic (well, my Rezzers are metal, but it'd still be the same models), and I have enough beasts to run a 50 SS with some options.

My opponent from my first game went on to get 2nd place. The Gremlins player won the painting contest (they were awesome).

It was a fun weekend. Thanks to MilwaukeeBeast and Black Dog Hobby Shop for holding the tournament. And thanks to the other players for generally being an awesome group of players.

Here in Lincoln, Nebraska we had three henchmen helping out for a nice day of demos.  We ended up demo-ing Malifaux, Evil Baby Orphange, Jetpack Unicorn and Kings of Artifice.  My husband special ordered kings of artifice not knowing if it would get in on time.  Happy to say it did, and it is a great game!

I ran and played in a small tournament. It was the second Intermountain Malifaux event. Low turn out because the Intermountain Group is just getting started and a couple of the group were at Privateer Press' Lock and Load. Had an excellent time and got tacos from a street vendor that were outstanding.

Almost 9 hours of Malifaux on Saturday! Played one game against Jacob Lynch, for our Slow Grow league. Then we had 8 people gathered around a 3x3 table to play an Enforcer Brawl! It was fun, but took a long time in between each player moving. Then I played a third game against Kaeriss as part of the slow grow league. It was a long day, but a fun day of Malifaux.

With help from Joel & PanzerHarris we had an open day at Wargames Workshop in Northampton. Alongside some tournament practice games we ran 3 demos, plus had interest from another couple. Much greater interest than expected so we'll be back again next month.

Don't do Twitter, so no chance to # anything :)

Demo'd a game and got someone to jump in our group (a VERY difficult task in my area). They will be joining my story league which started last Tuesday. And a lot more signed up for my story league than I expected. I need to add a new sign up sheet.

I ran a tourny called Fraserfaux which had a pretty decent turnout for it's location. Not as many as I hoped (last minute cancellations) but some players had driven 4 hours to arrive so overly happy with their efforts. Lots of games were played and many smiling faces. We had an absolute tonne of prizes and fun and even gave the menu a little twist. Oh yeah and cake.

Afterwards I went and visited some friends and they wanted to see about this game I ran, so basically demo'd a game right there at their place and looks like I got a new Arcanist and Resser to add to my players. Before the effects of the weekend wore off I found myself buying a translucent pandora crew from A Wyrd Place member. Pretty awesome weekend.
