  1. I have a casual match coming up here in a few days and I’m at a loss for which crew to run. My opponent is going to be running either Guild Lucius or Perdita. I’m going to be running either Arcanist Hoffman or Ironsides. Which one would be better for either situation, based now without strats or schemes being determined?
  2. Hello, I may play in a tournament next week. I'm thinking about bringing Ironsides. Below I list the strats and schemes for the three rounds. What do you think about taking her? Is there a round you think she would suffer a significant disadvantage? If so, with whom would you replace her? Please dont tell me take Sandeep all three rounds... :) Round 1: Extraction, Standard deployment Schemes : Surround them, Covert Breakthrough, Show of Force, Vendetta, Public Demonstration Round 2: Ply for information, Flank deployment Schemes : Surround them, Covert Breakthrough, Undercover Entourage, Take one for the Team, Public Demonstration Round 3: Headhunter, Close deployment Schemes : Eliminate the leadership, Hold up their Forces, Search the Ruins, Take Prisonner, Recover Evidence
  3. Hello, I have an upcoming game and I am having a difficult time coming up with a proper list. This is the strat and schemes Public Execution (Tomes) / Flank - Eliminate the leadership (Paired Tomes) / Set Up (Number 3) / Take Prisoner (Number 9) / Vendetta (Number 12) / Public Demonstration (Number 13) I am playing agasint Arcanist and he usually runs Ironsides/Rasputina. The problem is that I haven played either master before so don know what to expect. I have read the master cards and I am worried if its Ironsides as I usually run Lady J into Public Execution with Frank/Phiona/Jury. I think that he can really pindown my crew, any suggestion ? I was thinking doing nellie with some shooting and take and Austinger for Vendetta.
  4. Hi there, maybe it is a bit old but could not see a thread for this crew. Maybe we can do it sticky and share tacs and crew composition ideas. Who to buy next, which schemes& strategies are they strong etc. cheers,
  5. Salut! Last time I've created a topic about arcanists and now I wanna to start Ironsides. So I know that I will grab Ironsides crew and Amina Naidu. But what else I should get for the comfortable 50SS game for the newcomer?
  6. The "Sleep now in the fire" - ability from Ironsides' Iron Determination says that a Red Joker coming up against Ironsides on a damage flip needs to be reflipped. What happens if the Red Joker is cheated in - I mean, can my opponent cheat it in or would it be pointless since he would have to reflip the RJ?
  7. Had my third Malifaux game yesterday (first was a demo match) with my first master, Ironsides - so second game with her. I went against the Victorias, my first match was against Von Schill, both 26 SS. After my experiences in the Von-Schill-Match (spend the whole game trying to catch him, ignored the rest, lost most of my team and the scenario), I played my team very close together and managed to draw in most of his ronins and even killed the Student of Conflict rather easily. Only to be taken apart by Victoria, thanks to a Red Joker at damage. Now I am wondering: is Ironsides a bad matchup against the Victorias or is it just a matter of playing around them? My crew was Ironsides, the Captain, both with Warding Runes, Oxford Mage with Doom Ward and two spiders. His crew was the Victorias, Student of Conflict and 3 Ronin.
  8. Hey guys, So I expanded into Arcanists recently and I am trying to figure out paint schemes for my masters. I have Ironsides, Kaeris, and Sandeep. However the stock art for the three of them, I am not the biggest fan of them as I play guild and like having red as my guild color. I have done some google image searches and not found a whole lot and was wondering if people here could post some pictures for inspiration. Thanks
  9. Hey all, so my LGS had a Malifaux tournament this weekend and I'm fairly happy with how I did overall so thought I'd share it with all of you! It wasn't the largest event, only 8 players, but we had a good mix of regular players and some people I hadn't seen before come out for it as well. The tournament had one of every non-10T faction show up, and two Gremlins and Neverborn player (I was the only Arcanist). ----- Round one was Extraction with Standard Deployment. I had only played against the Neverborn player once before at a previous tournament so I was going in not knowing what to expect for a drop. I decided to play it safe and did an Academic Sandeep killcrew: Sandeep - Arcane Reservoir, To Behold Another World, Unaligned Sage Valedictorian - Imbued Energies, Warding Runes Shastar Vidiya Guard - Well Rehearsed 3x Oxfordian Mages - Blood, Doom, Nemesis Wards, 3x Temporary Shielding Arcane Effigy Wind Gamin Schemes: Leave Your Mark, Frame For Murder (Valedictorian) My opponent decided to play a Pandora crew. Surprisingly I don't have very much experience with Pandora, so all I really knew going in was she was going to wreck me with Wp duels. His crew was: Pandora - Voices, Fears Given Forms, On Wings Of Darkness Nekima - Thousand Faces Doppleganger - Thousand Faces Lilitu Mr. Graves Waldgeist Primordial Magic Schemes: Hunting Party, Frame For Murder (Mr. Graves) The game went pretty well overall, ending 7-4 for the Arcanists. Pandora was played extremely aggressively, getting all of my mages down to 1-2 wounds each and killing my Effigy quickly to get rid of my condition removal, but in return I got Pandora down to 2 wounds and only 2 stones left by the end of turn 1. The rest of the game Pandora just beat on my crew and Paralyzed Sandeep twice before I managed to take her out. The game ended with both of our masters dying, Pandora killed Valedictorian and I didn't kill Mr. Graves. MVP for the Arcanists was definitely the Shastar Vidiya Guard, between getting Focused every turn for tossing a trash card, doing good damage to the enemy crew, and pushing friendly models out of Nekima and Pandora's auras, he was always helping out. I'm learning more and more that the SVG is just an awesome model, I need to use it more. Hilariously, the Primordial Magic went after one of my summoned Wind Gamin and nearly killed it! My opponent said it was the first time he had seen the Primordial Magic not only hit something but do decent damage to it too. A fun game overall. ----- Round two was Guard the Stash with Flank deployment. It was against my regular Gremlins player and the scheme pool was highly interact based. I figured that he would drop Zipp and built a Kaeris crew to do schemes around Zipp's shenanigans: Kaeris - Blinding Flame, Grab & Drop Carlos Vasquez - Practiced Productions, Stunt Double Arcane Emissary - Flaming Conflux Arcane Effigy 2x Fire Gamin 2x Large Arachnids Schemes: Accusation!, Claim Jump However, my opponent had other plans and surprised me with a Som'er crew: Som'er Teeth - Dirty Cheater, Liquid Bravery, Family Tree Fingers - Stilts Sami LaCroix - Encouragement Gracie Slop Hauler 2x Bayou Gremlins 2x Skeeters Schemes: Tail 'Em, Recover Evidence This game went less well for me, 6-9 Arcanists. My crew just wasn't really built to deal with what my opponent could put out (although my two Fire Gamin did a good job of keeping the # of Bayou Gremlins down) and we both ended the game with only our Masters and 1-2 models each. My MVP ended up being the Arcane Emissary, who killed 3 models on his own including Sami and held down one of the Stash Markers all game. Both Masters lived (though Somer was down to 3 wounds on the last turn). None of the schemes in the pool were good ones to go against Fingers with, but Claim Jump ended up being an especially bad pick for me as my opponent almost always outnumbered me and was able to get models near my Scheme Markers after I'd finished activating (not to mention Fingers doing his thing). A hard game overall, but an interesting one. ----- Round three was Reconnoiter with Close deployment. I was against a Gremlins player I'd never played before so I had no idea what I was in for, and since I wasn't in the top table anymore I decided to have a bit of fun. Very much not the ideal list, but I went with: Ironsides - Challenge the Crowd, Frontline Leadership, Seize the Day The Captain - Patron's Blessing Angelica - Practiced Productions Arcane Emissary - Ironclad Conflux Arcane Effigy Soulstone Miner Union Miner Schemes: Leave Your Mark, Dig Their Graves My opponent surprised me by also having a pretty wild list: Wong - Three Demon Bag, Ooh Glowy Bert Trixibelle Survivor Taxidermist Iron Skeeter 2x Lightning Bugs Lovely Assistant Schemes: Leave Your Mark, Hunting Party This game ended up being a 5-5 draw, and that was primarily due to my MVP absolutely being Ironsides. Turn 1, even after being Gremlin Lure'd away 8" made it into combat with the Survivor, a Lightning Bug, and the Lovely Assistant with Come Get Some up. Turn 2 she killed all but the Survivor (who was at 2 wounds from a counterpunch), got Gremlin Lure'd away again and spent the rest of the game on support trying to pull his models onto the center lines and moving to deny Leave Your Mark on the last turn. Both Masters survived, but both at 2 wounds. I goofed up a bit and forgot to put my Soulstone Miner out at the end of turn 1 so it didn't see the board until turn 3, although it did kill the second Lightning Bug and survived a Bacon Bomb when it got there, so there's that. An especially wild moment was a Glowy Bert managing to kill the Emissary in 2 shots (after it had also been Gremlin Lure'd 10" back turn 1), which was a bit awkward for me lol. Definitely a fun game, though my list could absolutely have been improved! ----- So at the end of the day I ended up with a WLD of 1/1/1, total VP earned of 18, and a VP differential of 0, getting 4th place and the most perfectly average of all scores It was very fun overall and it was nice to see some players I hadn't met before come out for it as well. My regular Gremlins opponent who beat me in round 2 ended up winning the tournament, which always makes me feel less bad about a loss, lol. I hope you've enjoyed this take on my tournament games!
  10. Man, it's been a while. But, I'm bored at work. Ironsides!! I want to like her but idk man. There's such a feast/famine thing with her. Has anyone had any luck with certain combos? I feel like, she excels against melee masters but if you run into anything else she's gunna have a hard time. Something I wanna try is taking Union Miners and probably Aionus. Drop a bunch of scheme markers and push them into place with Aionus. Then take Willie put up his 0 Aura Set Charges. Have Ironsides lure them into the schemes. Also throw burning bottles at things and give the Gunsmiths positives. THOUGHTS?
  11. Just been looking through the Wave 4 stuff and came across these guys. I haven't had the opportunity to test them out, but I think they seem really good for their cost. The ability to focus for a card pitch and also cycle bad cards out (particularly in an Ironsides crew where pushes are against def anyway) is great, H2K is great particularly if you take heals with Ironsides and their attacks and triggers are really solid. Has anyone had any experience using them? I feel like they would be a great flanker or even a sidekick for Ironsides in something like guard the stash or turf war, would love to hear people's thoughts/experiences
  12. Which happens first. Ironsides Come get some or a Disengaging strike? does the enemy have to pass the walk duel first then try to walk away or do they have to see if they walk away first then try to pass the duel?
  13. The host over at Schemes & Stones podcast wrote up a 50s battle report Ironsides vs Misaki(outcast). The battle report focuses on dissecting mistakes and learning. Pictures are included from Vassal so you'll get a top down view of each turn. http://midwestwargaming.com/malifaux-hindsight-learning-1/ Ironside’s Crew (opponent) Ironsides (Arcane Reservior, Challenge the Crowd, Warding Runes) – 6ss cache Mouse – 4ss Gunsmith – 7ss Johan (Imbued Energies) – 7ss Oxfordian Mage (Blood Ward) – 6ss The Captain (Patron’s Blessing) – 10ss The Firestarter (Imbued Energies) – 7ss Misaki’s Crew (mine) Misaki (Oathkeeper, Stalking Bisento, Tally Sheet) – 2ss cache Freikorps Librarian – 7ss Hodgepodge Effigy – 4ss Hodgepodge Emissary (Conflux of Thunder) – 10ss Jorogumo – 9ss Ronin – 6ss Strongarm Suit – 10ss
  14. Hello Wyrd brains trust. Im relatively new to the system, with NB Dreamer and Collodi with masters. Played a game Collodi vs Ironsides and just got obliterated. It was Squatters rights with distract and out flank, but we didn't get that far as Ironsides just got in the centre of my crew and wrecked Vasilisa, Widow Weaver and 2 Wicked Dolls by turn 3. I got her down to 1 WD but ran out of AP to finish the job and she bounced back. The captains relic hammer corrected some stitched, the other was unlucky and that was game with Collodi ghosting around by himself versus the whole crew minus mouse. The Oxfordian mages with the runes that remove printed suits from Ca actions really locked me down. Hand picked men being blooded by the electric creation for [+] flips was also nasty. We've since realised we had played a few things wrong (using her place ability to drop her in the middle of enemy rather than specific base to base) so I'm sure there were other mistakes that made it a bit OP (but we are learning). Any advice beyond the obvious 'don't bunch up'? Crew ideas? I'll be seeing her fairly regularly from now on... thanks
  15. Had this possibility come up in a game yesterday and wasn't sure how the interactions actually worked in this case. Did a quick search of the forums, but didn't see anything on it. Ironsides vs. Pandora. Pandora attacks Ironsides and gets the trigger to force a horror duel after damaging. Ironsides has warding runes as is within range and LoS for the aura from Blood Ward so is immune to enemy conditions. If Ironsides failed horror duel would it be considered an enemy condition which she would be immune to, or since its triggered by a failed horror duel(regardless of source that caused the duel) would Ironsides be paralyzed.
  16. Hey guys, for those of you that haven't seen the art work for both Ironsides and her buddy the Captain, go look it up, theres a thread floating around called Ironsides artwork. First of all I just want to say, they aren't bad looking, it's just not my style. So lets start with the easier one. The Captain. Now how many of you imagined the Captain to be an awesome pirate lady with a relic hammer? Well I did at least, and it makes a little more sense for her to be a pirate rather than a stuffy old bloke with a tank of something strapped to his back. Most of her abilities are based around storms and things (baring vapor trail which is a plane thing =/ ). Next is Ironsides, and she just completely misses the mark for me. She's meant to be the bruiser of the M&SU except she looks a little too slight for my liking, also not a fan of the clothes or her face. the only thing I can say that I like is her brass knuckles which are suitably brutal. So what my plan is, is to convert or find suitable alternate models for these two ladies, so starting with the capt'n then. This is more what I had in mind when I imagine the captain: http://s.cghub.com/files/Image/215001-216000/215418/036_max.jpg http://crabshackgallery.com/images/PirateStanding.jpg So I've dug around a bit and I've had a think, I think she'd be the easiest to convert out of say... the Viktoria's crew. I could either use Gun Vik's body and legs as the base and nab Taelor's hammer, give her a hat and change out the head. Or I could go for the full conversion and sculpt a jacket, corset, hat, gloves, trousers and boots onto one of the ronin (of which would probably end up horribly) and Ironsides. Honestly I have no ideas for her... Other than taking Mei Feng, reposing her, adding a jacket to cover up her armored gloves, bending the fingers into fists, change of head and adding some brass knuckles. Let me know what you guy's think, or if you have any suggestions, cause honestly, I need them
