  1. Being newly returned to the game, and having worked a good chunk of last week on some thrall conversions (visible in the modeling forum, can link here if requested), I've been giving a lot of thought to the Witch Hunters, and the Thralls in particular. My first thought is that the Thralls are pretty neat. A reasonable amount of health, hard to wound, baked in stats on both Defense and their main Attack, added with Ruthless gives them a really solid freight train of a punch. And if the opponent does kill them in melee, break out the smores. Their ranged action is also pretty neat, a Mv 13 duel is not insurmountable by any means, but most models will need an 8 or 9, so can really punish anyone who has grouped up. It isn't a lot of damage, but it can add up pretty quick (and the triggers ain't bad). While they can heal themselves, it feels counter intuitive to the goals of their Master, Madam Criid. I'm heavily considering starting with one on the field and giving it the 'No Prisoners' upgrade. More healing, Run and Gun, and Clockwork Grenade as a bonus action to really force those Mv duels and get out more chip damage. I feel like this would allow it to contribute more over the course of the game, but bumps it up to a 10 stone model. But considering a nearby handler can bump it up to Mv 7 or push it 4 inches up, it seems like a fantastic missile. He's practically cavalry at that point. So am I crazy (well obviously, but 'crazy' crazy)?
  2. I was a big player waaay back in first/first and half editions of the game, never really got into second ed. But, with the coming of third, I went through my collection and literally dusted things off to get back in the game. One thing I noticed however, was that having six witchling stalkers left me unable to use all of them at once, and I also happened to notice these new Witchling Thralls, which I don't like the look of. A proper witchling wears a hood and is likely all kinds of hidieous under that, so my crew simply cannot abide the new models. So I did what anyone with too many Witchling Stalkers, spare Union Miners, and far more patience than I thought would be required, and shoved them into a transformation circle and threw in some modeling putty for good measure (you'll notice my . . . lack of skill when it comes to the stuff). I'm fairly pleased with how they are shaping up, not entirely mind you, the chains still need a lot of work, but I'd say they're approaching the old table top quality I aim for. Comments welcome.
  3. Hi Folks, Am fairly new to Malifaux and am loving the models. I want to have a crew that looks half decent when I play (I am not the most gifted painter...) as I have a habit of buying stuff faster then I paint it. I have got on fine with the clothing layers but was wondering if anybody has any tips for painting swords? I use citadel paints thanks in advance
  4. So I was looking at the models that the guild has at their disposal and their 4ss models are pretty unmatched by any other faction. Has anyone tried massing Death Marshals and Witchling Stalkers? Maybe with an assisting model like the Withling Handler or some type of list similar to it? I was thinking that 5 or 6 Death Marshals could put some real hurt on someone. How about for a 30ss list? If anyone has tried it, I'd like to hear about the results! Thanks!
  5. My friends tricked me into trying Malifaux and these miniatures are a result of that: I'm a long time wargamer but a complete beginner at Malifaux, so I'm not sure the feel of these is correct to the background, but I've heard it's a crazy mix of victorian era, fantasy and cowboys. Any comments are welcome!
  6. Anyone willing to sell single Witchling Puppets? My wife plays Sonia and we do have Puppet Wars and she has taken a perverse liking to using our single Witchling puppet on a proper 30mm base (magnatised) to represent created Witchling... We need a few more.

  9. This is my first crew for malifaux as well as the first paint jobs I've done (not counting a couple generic archers I painted like 7 years ago when I first got into [then shortly thereafter fell out of for a few years] mini games). I was looking at these models (especially the sacred flame) and I thought to myself, "You know what this needs? More fire." So I bought the flame accessories and threw them about here and there. I particularly like Sonnia's because I never liked the cigarette on the model. It looks more like a cigar (at least on my mold it did). Anyways, I recognize that I need more practice with highlighting (this is especially evident on the executioner), but over all I'm rather proud of the outcome. I was going for a kind of Spanish Inquisition look with the color scheme.
