  1. Question about Jakob Lynches Defensive Ability called Hold 'Em and Mcmournings ability Organ Donor. Hold 'Em - "If an attacker cheats an attack action against this model, the attacker suffers 2 damage AFTER resolving the attack action" Organ Donor - "After this model inflicts damage with a ML action, it heals an amount of damage equal the the damage inflicted " I.E. - My Jakob Lynch was charged by my friends Mcmourning model. He cheated fate for the attack to hit and damaged my Lynch with Surgical Instruments. It triggered my Defensive ability Hold Em. Question - Would Jakob Lynches Hold 'Em trigger before Mcmournings Organ Donor heal happens OR after?
  2. In a fit of temporary insanity, I purchased McMourning's box and a few supporing models. Then I noticed Test Subjects, and was drawn into a conversation which involved McMourning's first name and one of my son's favourite TV shows, 'Hey Duggee!'... (you probably don't want to ask) A thematic crew was too hilarious an idea not to pursue. For science! In a nutshell, I'd like ideas on models which McMourning can take and which could be used to represent the following animals, with some anatomical inaccuracy entirely acceptable (I'll update the list as ideas come in): 1. Mouse - Zombie Chihuahua seems the best fit, as Hamelin's minions aren't Beasts. 2. Octopus - the Scorpius, mostly because it too has eight legs. 3. Rhinoceros - maybe Gracie, Wild Boar, or Blessed of December? 4. Hippopotamus - The Sow, or Rougarou? 5. Crocodile - McTavish, or maybe a Silurid to save points. Help a budding mad scientist out...
  3. @Ludvig wrote the above in a topic in the Arcanist sub-forum about using the Scorpius in a McMourning crew with the Test Subjects upgrade, the original of which can be found here: Earlier in the thread, @EnternalVoid and @Freman had some positive appraisals of Scorpius with McM. Does anyone have any additional experience or theory to share about running Scorpius with the Good Doctor? I figured it deserved its own topic in the Ressurectionists' sub-forum.
  4. A question about Seamus Sinister Reputation Upgrade. (1) Live for Pain - Heal this model an amount of damage equal to the damage the target suffers Question 1 - Does Seamus heal the amount of damage suffered before prevention via Soulstones or after? Question 2 - Does Seamus heal the amount of damage suffered before reduction from Armour etc or after? Question 3 - If the target only has 2 wounds remaining but Seamus does 3 damage. Would he heal 3 or only 2? Mcmournings Organ Donor - After this model inflicts damage with a MI action. It heals an amount of damage equal to the damage inflicted Question 4 - I'm assuming by the use of the word inflicted as opposed to suffered that the amount healed by this ability is calculated before prevention/reduction and is solely based on the amount of damage that Mcmourning puts out. Is this correct? Many thanks
  5. No House Calls This is my second thread chronicalling my return to the Guild in GG 2018. I've been playing Malifaux for three years (ever since the Great WHFB Migration of 2015) and enjoy casual and comeptitive games. I started with Guild, had a brief flirtation with Outcasts and Ressers, but with the release of the Wave 5 models and GG 2018, I'm coming home to Guild. I found McMourning pretty underwhelming when I first acquired him, but with all of his new hiring options I was keen to try him again. Vs Reva 50 SS Symbols of Authority, standard deployment Punish the Weak, Inescapable Trap, Hold Up Their Forces, Search the Ruins, Public Demonstration McMourning - Test Subjects, Plastic Surgery, On the Clockilhim Amina Naidu Executioner - Ready to Work Mounted Guard Razorspine Rattler Scorpius Nurse Zombie Chihuahua 2 SS cache Reva - (not sure, but definitely the one that prevents you from preventing/reducing damage) the Forgotten Marshal Jaakuna Ubume 2 Dead Doxies 2 Shieldbearers 2 Crooligans How it Went Down: McMourning, the Rattler, and Scorpius ran towards the left and center Symbols. McMourning focused on punishing minions while the Scorpius and Rattler picked up two Symbols. A group of his models staged a Demonstration on McMourning, then went about trying to score models. I was holding up his forces but Reva was removing a model around. I sent the Mounted Guard and Executioner in on a cavalry charge against her, but the cards didn't go my way, and she killed them both. The Rattler was very close to claiming the third Symbol, but a failed Hazardous Terrain via Jaakuna brought him down. Final Score: McMourning 6 (Symbols 3, Hold Up 2, Punish the Weak 1) Reva 7 (Symbols 3, Public Demo 3, Punish the Weak 1) Report Card: McMourning: (B) I was super excited to try McMourning with his new hiring pool. His various attacks helped kill a few enemy models and heal himself, but Reva puts out a colossal amount of damage that you just have to take. His injection was very useful for getting models up the field, and I planned on using his ability to make modles take Interact at range, but didn't get the chance. I like the idea though! Amina Naidu: (C) She was an early victim of Reva, but she got to use a few of her triggers and defensive abilities. I want to use her more because I believe she has a lot of potential. Executioner: (C) He tagged along with the Mounted Guard to try to take down Reva, but my opponent had higher cards so I missed completely. Then she killed him. I want him to do more work for me, but he is often targeted early and folds surprisingly easily. One day he will shine! Mounted Guard: (C) I was psyched to pull off a cavalry charge with him on my first use, and on a dramatic charge against Reva herself! I pulled off the For the Guild trigger to let the Execution chain activate, but we didn't do the kind of damaged I wanted. He's a fast model, and he can charge models near a Symbol and drag someone along to claim it. Scorpius: (B) I get a lot of mobility out of him, especially if he Creeps Along and gets Injected. He also caused a few models to become Slow when McMourning poisoned them. This model is basically an in-joke with some friends of mine, but my paint job came out really nice and he does synergizee with McMourning, so he stays for now. Nurse: (A) The nurse died fairly quickly thanks to Jaakuna and soem Doxies, but before she died she made my scorpius extra fast and Paralyzed two models. I don't notice the SS increase because several other models I used had a decrease. Models like... Razorspine Rattler: (A) The rattler was awesome in my game. Slither let me attack a doxy that I didn't have LoS to, and his built in trigger pushed me around and out of combat, freeing me to make a dash for the last Symbol. He may not be a great model, but he's really cool and he did some work for me. Zombie Chihuahua: (F) He moved up and was squashed by Reva. No impact! It's hard to pass on that cheap activation though. Strats and Schemes: Both of us ended up removing two Symbols and protecting one. I've played this a few times, and I've had the most success by bascially giving up one of the side markers and clustering around the other two, while sending models towards any undefended points. I should have taken another beater Hen chman if I wanted to score Punish the Weak. I did have the minions to pull off Public Demonstration, which is pretty easy to score. Hold Up Their Forces worked fine, lots of models have to be close to each other for various abilities, so it's easy to tie up two enemy models with one of mine. I will likely drop the Mounted Guard and Executioner next time out, though they could still be useful for Ours and capturing a quarter. Thanks for reading!
  6. H'ok, so... n00b question. I heard a rumour that McMourning can take models with the Beast and Academic sub-types. I only have access to books 1, 2 and 3 at the moment, however, and haven't been able to find this fabled upgrade. Is it listed as an upgrade available in book 4 or 5? Or, is it simply too good to be true? Have I made an embarrassing, nonsensical beginner's gaffe, along the lines of "I hear that Perdita is allowed to take Nephilim models if you play your turns backwards, while squinting?"
  7. We have a little argument considering the abovementioned upgrade. We are talking about "Time of Death? Before I Got Here!" So which interpretation is correct? 1) You may do multiple (0) actions with the mentioned upgrade in a single activation, but only if you made a (0) action BEFORE killing somebody with a action. Afterwards you can take a (0) actions only after killing someone with a action and those on the upgrade itself. 2) You may not do multiple (0) actions with the mentioned upgrade in a single activation. This wording is only for possibility of killing other models not in your activation (Death Marshal reqruiter's "Into The Fray"). Discuss.
  8. I tried to write a story to be the Freelance Writer for Wyrd Miniatures. Well, some things are not happen. So I share it with a community. Be lenient to grammatical errors. My English, unfortunately, is not perfect. Mediated acquaintance in the Quarantine zone Vincent looked out from behind the corner of the tumbledown hovel, appraisingly watching at something slowly moved over the pavement. A long time ago, while been a little boy, Vincent Saint Clair saw Siamese twins in the circus. The creature, wandering over the Quarantine zone, looked like them, hobbling on three legs and wagging the one or the other head by a rotation. The attentive eye of the former Guild exorcist noticed tears in the flesh, where connected two bodies threads dispersed. Some lunatic sewed two corpses, revived the cadaver and sent his creation for a walk through the Reva’s territory. The bowstring snapped, and cadaver twitched. A piece of his left head fell on the pavement with the crossbow bolt within. Vincent dived for a cover like a black shadow to reload his weapon. Breathe in. Jump out from the cover and shoot. Breathe out. Step behind the abandoned house. Disgusting hand, covered with patches of mold, landed on his shoulder. Vincent tumbled forward over his head, acting more instinctively rather than rationally. The two‑headed - well, half‑headed for that moment - creation of necromancy howled and hobbled straight to the man jumped out on the road. Vincent swore. He had forgotten about ... who was that punk? Henry? Or Charles? No, wrong names. Never mind. Undead corpse asked by Reva for helping Vincent in patrolling the borders of the territory. Like Vincent needed its help. There was nothing but troubles from mindless zombies. "Damn it!" Vincent growled, charging the crossbow hastily "Numscull!" Zombie groaned guilty and shuffled across the path of the cadaver. Two corpses exuded the stench of rotting collided at a distance of a couple of steps from the ex‑exorcist. Fingers covered with greenish skin began to dig into the pliable half‑decayed meat. From a side, it was seen like the romantic game of two lovers. Two sadistic cannibal lovers. Vincent took a step back, squinted, guessing the moment, and fired. Two crossbow bolts, one after another, pierced the back of the head of his uninvited assistant. Three-legged cadaver, splattered with blood and cerebrospinal fluid, slowly began to pull out fingers of the undead who was suddenly freed from unliving. Exorcist closed his eyes. He mentally traced a few words by shimmering letters on the wall of absolute darkness. Letters sparkled, swirled, and, finally, exploded with a fountain of white flame. Vincent heard embittered, desperate growl and opened his eyes. A three-legged cadaver fell onto the pavement. The magic fire devoured the meat from its ribs and belly, revealing the liver. There was a crack, and cadaver broke in half when crosslinking thread burst. The gray ash, former Henry - or was it Charles? maybe, Harry? - began to scatter on the pavement, picked up by the wind. Vincent fixed his belts, threw the crossbow on his shoulder and continued walking along the route of patrolling. After resting the undead the former exorcist always felt a kind of elation. He was drawn to philosophizing. Now, for example, he thought about what a crazy man could consider corpses as the material for sewing, like, the teddy bear’s sewing. Some real psycho, no doubts. *** New Douglas McMourning’s shelter - house almost in the center of the Quarantine zone - was not a half beautiful as the morgue. His loyal assistant Sebastian had taken away almost all the necessary things before Death Marshals broke into his secret lab, and yap of zombie chihuahua in the tub for a ficus served as the living - or undead, more likely – prove of his success. But without the table, his lovely white table, without the glare of lamps - what kind of creativity can be there?! McMourning sat in the almost whole chair on the second floor of his shelter. He was annoyed by everything. By a spiral stuck in his buttock. By the yapping dog. By this awfully blue sky. By the invisible dwarf elephant on the first floor. By the lack of the operating table. By his left glove left in the Guild Enclave. By a presence of Sebastian. By a disappearing of Sebastian. By the sound of his scalpels thrown into the window fell onto the pavement near the house. By the fact that there were only two scalpels left. And the last one. And no more. "Sebastian!" McMourning shouted, staring at the ceiling. "Bring the scalpels back from the street!" No answer. Douglas frowned. Oh yes. Sebastian was dead, after all. No, stop, not Sebastian. It was Lord Byron who died, and his assistant was alive, just went somewhere else again. McMourning was irritated by his sudden absences. And his last work was unsuccessful. It was necessary to go to the end and sew all hands to the hips. He hurried to let his creation go. "Master?" Douglas jumped up and slapped himself on the breast pocket with his palm. Something slipped out and flopped to the floor. Sebastian climbed the ladder, put his saw on the dresser and looked at McMourning sitting on his haunches and poking a finger in a tomato. "Sebastian, why do I have a tomato in my pocket instead of a scalpel? Who can be cut with a tomato? Hmm. Tomato scalpel. Tomato killer ..." "Maybe you put it in your pocket during the breakfast?" Sebastian suggested, coming closer. "I don’t think so" McMourning whispered. "Rather it specifically climbed there by itself. It wanted to wait until I fell asleep and then kill me! Listen to me, Sebastian. Now you'll turn around, and slowly, at ease, go to that wall. The tomato'll rush at you, so I'll be able to smash it!" Sebastian shrugged and walked away. "I said to go at ease, Sebastian!" Sebastian whistled a merry tune, with which he usually dismembered the corpses. An unpleasant sound came from behind. McMourning wiped his hand on his robe, smearing the pulp and juice tissue. "Stupid tomato. The instinct of the murderer is not enough to deal with me!" "Master, I've completed your task" Sebastian reported, thinking it was the right moment. "A? Did you bring the scalpels back?" "Another your task, Master. I've been following your latest creation. It was destroyed. By some kind of an exorcist". "An exorcist? Here?! " McMourning jumped to the window and leaned out almost to the waist. "Is this a raid?" "No, Master. Unlikely" Sebastian walked over to Douglas and carefully dragged him from the window by the floors of his robe. "He was alone. And kind of strange. No badge, no hat. And with a zombie" "You said it was destroyed. Concentrate, Sebastian!" "With another zombie. Not your. An exorcist used him to hold your creation. Then shot him in the head, did something and turned the zombie into a pillar of fire. Your creation also burned down in this fire" "Some kind of nonsense" summed McMourning. "Why did an exorcist go for a walk with zombies, and why did he burn them? The dead undead must be brought to me; I have given instructions to all newcomers!" "Perhaps he could not read" Sebastian said cautiously. "This explains a lot" McMourning snorted. "An exorcist, being absolutely unsuitable for his duties; and me, sitting without the material for working". McMourning looked at his feet. Well… "Sebastian". "Yes, Master?" "Bring my scalpels back from the street, feed the elephant and return here". He carefully poked the flattened tomato with the toe of his boot. "I have an idea".
  9. Silly list incoming: McMourning: test subjects, moonlighting 4 guild hounds 4 canine remains zombie chihuahua 32ss and 10 activations so far. This should leave room for a couple of hitters or maybe the emissary with the general conflux for massive amounts of fun with charging dogs. You should out-activate most lists and you can dogpile opponents just as a bad joke. Not recommender in reckoning or hunting party pools but you can't have it all. Sebastian could be added to resummon your inevitably dying dogs and maybe get some extra poison damage from all those infects. Might even take spare parts on doc to get a rogue necromancy. Thoughts?
  10. So with an a new upgrade Dr Doug can now hire up to 4 Beast and/or Academic models from out of faction. Discuss
  11. Hello everybody! I'm thinking about playing as guild Mcmournig's crew, but i'm stuck in trouble with findig some good synergy. 1Nurse and a peacekeeper are essential must-haves, But may be you can support me with some great ideas? Thanks)
  12. So I may be missing something obvious. if so just point it out and ill beat my own face, but why does McMourning's new upgrade let him summon "NON-GAMIN" beast? would it just give him access to too much, is it for fluff reasons. or is there an obscure broken synergy with one of them I'm not seeing? I bet the answer is staring at me somewhere lol
  13. What is your excuse to play the good doctor in guild after the latest fluff? He is easily my favorite master, but choosing him now just seems so wrong now. Damn..

  15. Hello world! Just as the title says. I got the alt McMourning card in my black friday stuff and currently I only play gremlins. I would love to trade this away for something I could actually use haha. If someone has the brewmaster I would be over the moon but any alt card is good with me! (yes even zoraida)
  16. Just a quick word of advice to new players to the game drawn to the Guild. Don't start your Malifaux experience with Lucius, and ESPECIALLY don't do that when your opponent is playing Lilith. Just trust me on this, you will spare yourself a ton of butthurt. On a positive note, my second game I took McMourning as a Resser with just the boxed set models, and apart from messing up near the end of the game on order of activation, could have pretty comprehensively curbstomped my opponent. Paralyzing Nakima with a Nurse is so good, so very very good... If you want to stick with Guild, after doing some reading and wrapping my head around the game a bit more, I see how Lucius can be good, but he's no master for a beginning player. The game makes my head hurt bad enough without going to the most subtle, combo intensive, and tricksy master in the Guild faction.
  17. I've been trying to figure out how best to use Guild Hounds outside of McCabe. Since Luna is essentially the Guild Hound Master by getting rid of Insignificant for them it seems a bit like you're taking a hit if you take them out of McCabe crews. Currently my philosophy is that 2 Guild Hounds = 1 Six Soulstone model. So they would be vying for the same place as a Death Marshal, Warden, Austringer(not often), Pathfinder, or Lawyer. Especially since they have to contend with the Insignificant which without it would make them excellent scheme runners at 3ss. Usually I run the Watcher and now after Nellie's release the Field Reporter. How do you guys feel about them?

  19. Hey, I am new to the forum and to Malifaux and have a couple of 'noobs' questions. First off my first foray into Ressurectionist is going to be McMouring because I love the model and the theme of his crew. However my opponent is Shen Long and his condition attrition!! I will have th following items at my disposal (due to funding) McMourning crew set. Canine remains additional box. Guild Autopsy box Rafkin What is the best way to deal with Shen and, by extension, other condition removal models? I could probably add another single box (approx £10) due to budget. Can't wait to join the Ressurectionist surge (resurgence?). Any help would be appreciated.
  20. With the New McMourning Dental Brush (Patent Pending) you can have the pearly white smile that me and Bob here have. And remember to always use McMourning Blue(Patent Pending), the toothpaste of the stars. Disclaimer: Side-effects may include dizziness, maniacal laughter, erectile dysfunction and undeath.
  21. Had a game the other day with McMourning. I was playing against 10T, and the strat was Extraction. I took covered breakthrough and exhaust their forces. Misaki took exhaust their forces and Hunting Party. He brought something along the line of: Misaki (3 upgrades) Lone Swordsman Katanaka sniper Thunder Archer Toshiro Ototo I brought: McMourning Nurse Heartsbane Judge Orderly Deathmarshal Austringer Pathfinder Nurse I went for full out control and didnt want to do alot of killing. We ended the game in turn 4, as we ran out of time. game would have ended 10-4 to McMourning. I had Ototo stand still turn 2 and 3 thanks to nurse Heartsbane, and Misaki paralyzed turn 3 and 4 thanks to the nurse. I also boxed Toshiro one turn to make sure he didnt start summoning. Lessons learned: it is very hard and card intensive not to fight. This control type crew works best against elite crews. I was lucky with a few flips and card draws, which made my life a bit easier. I was very happy with nurse Heartsbane, and she quickly got a huge mark on her back. She is very card intensive, and suit hungry. Still have not gotten anything out of the Pathfinder. Love the Austringers mainly for their discard card trigger and their deliver orders. Nurses are fantastic...so many ways to shut down models. 1 Deathmarshal is alwasy good. Orderlies are good scheme runners. With a nurse they can go up to walk 8, and you can push them around with McMourning without worrying about poison, since they heal a bit. McMourning actually didnt do much this game appart from pushing people around and taking a charge from Ototo. All in all it was a fun game, and a type of crew i don't usually run.
  22. Hello Again! I'm here with my newest battle report! Another game down at Connections Gaming in Vancouver, BC, Canada. In this game, Rafkin spends some time contemplating the universe in the void and Tara gets to a strong prescription from the Doctor. finalsoulstone.squarespace.com/blog Next week I'll be doing another master. It's been a while since I pulled out Nicodem, but I also need more time with Seamus. I guess we wait for next weeks strats and schemes.
  23. I currently own four Masters and most of their related models: McMourning, Nicodem, Seamus, Yan Lo. I mostly play McMourning and sometimes Nicodem, haven't played Seamus outside of Crew Box games for years, and never tried Yan Lo. I don't have any trouble against most Factions with McMourning, but some heavily Wp-focuses Neverborn lists really give me the fits. They usually include the Widow Weaver to reduce my already mediocre Wp and one or more Teddies which they can easily move into my face (via pushes from Daydreams or Tangle Shadows), thus usually getting the alpha strike on me and tying up my forces so I can't deal with the Weaver who just makes my Wp lower and lower, until the Horror Duels and their sheer hitting power overwhelm me. In my experience, the general lack of Armor and low-ish Wp really plays towards their strenghts. I'm curious who and what would you take against those lists. I've tried Nicodem against a Pandora list, but she and her little friends have engaged me before I could get the summoning rolling and I've lost, but I feel he might obviously have a better chance against them than McMourning, however he does not seem perfect, either. My ideas so far are: 1. taking a Lawyer with McMourning if I'm against Neverborn for the +ve flip in Horror duels (still not enough imho) 2. Anna Lovelace to counter Lilith's Tangle Shadows and make delivering Teddies harder (they can still charge though) 3. Johan, although usually I get Paralyzed during my activation which he can't help with, but a Relic Hammer can come handy 4. Giving Seamus or Yan lo a try against those lists, or getting another Master. What are your suggestions?
