  1. Please let me know what you think! And more stuff coming up!
  2. Me and some friends want to start playing malifaux. I really love 3 masters of this faction: Rasputina, Colette and Kaeris. I wish to make a play test with all of them before buying a box. So i would like to know pros and cons of this masters and maybe some crew examples to play at 50 ss. Thank you for your help
  3. I'm looking to fill out some of my missing pieces from different crews. I live in Australia so please factor that into any decisions made before offering to sell models. I am willing to purchase Kaeris and Mei Feng Box Sets.
  4. Hi folks. Played my first game with Kaeris last night, a hard fought battle against Collodi that I lost at the last second due to serious Collodi shenanigans - in other words, a very satisfying game for my first time out with a new master. But what I found was that I was getting a lot out of Kaeris' base abilities, and not quite sure what to do about her upgrades. I took Grab and Drop and did manage to use it once to great effect; but the Wings of Fire part never came into play. I'm wondering if more experienced Kaeris players can talk me through her two limited upgrades. Do you have a basic method for deciding whether to take Grab and Drop or Purifying Flame? Have you found really effective ways to take advantage of the Wings of Fire part of G&D? It seems to me like you have to put a lot of energy into it to have something activate with burning near Kaeris in position to move twice and drop a worthwhile scheme marker; I can see it for maybe Plant Explosives, ALitS, I suppose Protect Territory, but it just seems like you have to sort of hold Kaeris back and spend a bunch of AP handing out burning just for a couple of free scheme markers. What am I missing here? Or do people prefer Purifying Flame? Thanks!
  5. Hi folks. After playing around with various factions, I've committed to the Arcanists, and have really been enjoying playing Ramos and Mei Feng. Up till now I've mostly been using Ramos, with MF for Reckoning or to haul in Kang against Ressers, that sort of thing. But I've recently picked up Raspy and Kaeris as well, along with various models that go along with them (December Acolytes, Union Miners, a proxy Firestarter, etc.). So my question for you all is this: when do you run which arcanist master? Are there particular strategies / schemes where you've found a specific master excels, or particular enemy factions / masters that would prompt you to choose one master over another? Our local scene is very friendly and relaxed, and I'm having a good time just getting the feel of various arcanist combinations, but I'm curious whether people have strong feelings about running particular masters in particular situations. Thanks!
  6. I was playing a game with another new player and being relatively new myself, we ran into a rule we were both unclear on. Kaeris' Smoldering Heart rule. the rule lists Df/Wp. Does this mean everytime she succeeds at a Df or Wp the ability takes effect or are we missing something? Any help would be appreciated.

    Kaeris 1

From the album: Kaeris and Gunsmiths

The wings are from Microart Studios. I didn't like the weedy-looking ones from the standard model, as I wanted something to make it look like it could actually carry her aloft. The base is mostly plasticard and greenstuff, with the smelting pot being one of the drums from a Warhammer kit.
  8. "Here's something for you to write about, Mr. Everett." The guardsman's rifle stock mercifully missed my ribs, which surely would have cracked one or two. Unfortunately in doing so, he ploughed into my guts with not much but my thin cotton shirt to soften the blow. I folded over like a house of cards. A boot added to my momentum, rolling me down an embankment so that I came to rest in the contents of someone's chamberpot, shovelled against a street curb. Being already past sundown, and having been pulled from my bed, it was hard enough to get my bearings much less fight off my attackers. Hands grabbed at me, ushering me back to my feet, though my innards denied any desire to stand. I blinked away the blurriness and tried to focus on something or someone other than the heaving pain. A burly form coalesced in front of me and yanked my head up with a firm grip on my soiled hair. The hard set face bathed in stubble was as kind as one would expect from a Guild guard. When my brain stopped rattling about in my skull I remembered him as the man who had broken into my home to set upon my printing press with a menace usually reserved for murderers and thugs. The man seemed not to have settled all his frustrations though as he spat on my face. "Bring him inside, we need to have a few words." I should have held my tongue but my wit had a way of getting the better of me. "Should have thought of that before you saw fit to malign my print. Or perhaps your issue was with the complexity of the parlance, Captain." The retaliation was swift and expected but I was unable to roll with it as my captors held me firmly so that this time I heard the crunch of bone under the swinging rifle. Having already been winded from the earlier assault, the broken ribs made any sort of breathing recovery a painful endeavour. I blacked out. I awoke as my head was plunged into a bucket of, what I hoped was well water. The fire in my lungs would have had me believe I was drowning but I was uncertain given my other injuries. When my head was brought up, a blackened-toothy smile of a heavy tobacco chewer greeted me. “He's awake, Cap'n” sour breath wafted over me adding to my agonizing laboured breathing. “Jim, welcome to the Happy Hour Saloon! I can call you Jim, right? Mr. Everett is so formal.” the voice was the familiar gravelly tone of my earlier tormentor. I struggled to clear my vision and seek him out so I could at least prepare myself if he decided to rain down another beating. The saloon name was unfamiliar to me, an uncomfortable prospect since I knew most of them by heart. It was reasonably safe to assume they'd taken me somewhere isolated so they could string out my interrogation for as long as it needed to take. “So we're friends now that we've traded a few barbs?” My peripheral vision saw the flying fist just as it made contact with my head. “I ask the questions. We're here to discuss your rag sheet sources then we can debate your future, Jim.” Not being the most hardy of sorts I feared I'd not hold out long for any line of questioning but giving up my sources would have been like breaching a sacred vow. “Now why would my sources interest a man of integrity like you, given they only seem to utter lies and gossip?” Steady pressure on my ribs caused me to cry out and lose my train of thought. For a moment I swore I smelt the comforting smell of a campfire before the unnamed Guild captain blocked my view. “I ask the questions, Jim. Don't make this harder on you than it needs to be. We all know you academic types don't like to get dirty. So why not just come clean?” “Uh, Captain?” the chewer put a hand on his boss' shoulder. “Touch me again and you can join our friend here, Smithson.” I wasn't dreaming, I could distinctly smell wood burning this time. I searched for the source given the room was cold and lit only by a couple lanterns hanging above a bar. In the mirror behind the bar all I could see was the reflection of an old rusted banjo. “But Sir.” “It can wait till we have settled matters with James, here.” The guild captain was getting increasingly irate and his temper threatened to manifest again in physical form. “You should have learned to listen to your men, Captain. It might have saved your life.” The words were both seductively feminine yet frightfully cold. They came from somewhere behind me. A sudden burst of light blinded me and I noted a dramatic increase in temperature to my surroundings. Fiery impish creatures were everywhere, setting floor boards and furniture a light with their passing. “It's that witch, Kaeris! Get her!” A rush of elation filled my being, the Arcanists hadn't abandoned me to my fate and would spring me to write of the Guild's iron-fisted injustice again. Gunshots and screams rang in my ears while the stench of burning flesh and hair quickly drowned out the more pleasant charring lumber. Occasionally I'd catch a glimpse of the battle behind me in the bar's mirror. Guild men flailing, consumed in flames as their flesh bubbled and boiled offer their bones. I was mostly left to my imagination and other senses to determine the fate of my rescuers and captors. Finding myself unguarded and unbound, I slipped from my chair and crawled on my hands and knees towards the freedom that was so near. As was my luck since landing in Malifaux, it was not to be. A beam of considerable weight trap my legs and crush my spine, pinning me not 10 feet from the door. I'd have to wait out the fate of the battle to either be saved or condemned. One by one the voices died out till only one remained. “Now the people will rise up and punish the Guild for trying to silence the truth.” Although flowing like honey, there was a disturbing tinge of fanaticism to the pitch of the voice.” I coughed as smoke sought out shelter in my chest.“Kaeris? Help me, I'm over here by the bar. I'm trapped.” One of the fire gamin skipped by setting the door frame to the outdoors on fire. “A great injustice is put right this night, Mr. Everett.” I wanted to partake in her joy but my increasing pain at having not been extracted from under the heavy beam made me somewhat irritable. “I'll be sure to write up a feature piece on your great victory as soon as we get out of here.” There was a swooping rush of wind as Anasalea Kaeris of the Arcanists landed before me on a set of magnificent metallic wings. Resembling every bit the angel of vindication and freedom, her golden wings folded behind her slender back as she grabbed a shot glass off the ground. She straightened and turned to regard me with a degree of pity. I felt dread slowly seep into my soul as the pity melted away into clinical detachment. The fair-haired saint's predatory smile flitted in and out of shadows cast by the now raging inferno surrounding us both. "Oh, I didn't do it. You did." As the smoke billowed, filling the saloon, I felt myself slipping again into unconsciousness. “Your unjust death will stir the locals to arms allowing us the distraction we need to spring hundreds from gaol. I was just dispatched to ensure you died without giving away your benefactors.” She walked slowly back to the bar and poured herself a drink, seemingly undisturbed by the flames licking at the very bar she stood at.“To the martyr of the revolution,” she raised her glass in toast. “To absent friends To those we have met To those we have yet to meet To those who have left us for a while And to those who have left us forever Let us lift our glasses And drink a toast That they may abide in our hearts forever To absent friends." 1413 words Theme: Absence (Sort of) Character: The Academic Line: "Oh, I didn't do it. You did." Item: A rusted banjo Location: A Saloon
  9. I have been away for a good while and did a quick search for results of the Arcanist winning Dead Heat...seems we came away with nothing, since Kaeris was never rescultped since she was becoming a master. Was hoping she might have been one of the first of the new boxes produced in 2014 but Black Friday seems to set up what is to come... Didnt want to necro this thread...which has no Wyrd response anyways. http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?43039-Alt-Kaeris&highlight=dead+heat
  10. Hi guys have tried to get into this game but need help building my first crew so here we are Arcanists Crew - 35 - Scrap Ramos -- 4 Pool Mobile Toolkit Kaeris [8ss] Fire Gamin Fire Gamin Gunsmith Large Steampunk Arachnid Steampunk Arachnid Thanks in advance
  11. So lets say I have a Desolation Engine with 2 wounds left. He makes a melee strike against Kaeris which costs him 1 wound immediately leaving him at 1 wound. Now he hits Kaeris which triggers her flaming armor which does 1 dg to the engine leaving him at 0 Wd. Desolate Engine has Consuming Touch which heals him for 1 Wd for each Wd he inflicts on the defender. Does Desolation Engine just Die without inflicting Dmg even though he hit? Does he go to 0 wds resolve the dmg, resulting in a heal and live to swing again? or some other option.? Pg 44: "A model reduced to 0 Wd will be removed from the game as killed unless an effect that could prevent the Wd or heal the model to 1 or more Wd is applied. Bonus Question: aLeviticus is at 1 Wd and Does Severe dmg to a 1 Wd Lilith. Does the Black Blood Kill aLevi before he can heal because of killing her with Destructive Infusing? Double Bonus: Replace aLeviticus with Desoloation Engine. Does the Desolation Engine get killed before it can heal from Consuming Touch?
  12. UPDATE 6/13/12 Iggy joins the crew! Despite the fact that he is out-of-faction, I opted to go with the same scheme and keep the visual theme. UPDATE 4/12: Kaeris done! I was compelled to do the hand flames because her hands were a bit miscast with really short ugly fingers. Overall, I am pretty pleased with the end result. The base flames are from a Wyrd fire basing set; notice the burned grass. I am not as happy with this as the fire on the gamin, but after working and reworking it I opted to just decide it was done. UPDATE 4/7; WIP Kaeris: Hello All, This is the beginning of my first Malifaux crew. The gunsmith proxy is a PP figure from their IK-RPG line; her skin/hair was inspired by Daenerys in GoT. I don't usually go for thematic & unified color schemes, but I figured I would try it out with this crew...basically, I am sticking to warm colors with some Earth tones mixed in. This was my first time painting fire ever...I think that they turned out pretty well.
  13. I'm rather new to Malifaux (loving it btw), just have the Kaeris box set as you probably know Kaeris relies upon the spreading and detonation of Burning counter/tokens to do damage. However when resolving the burning counters do they stack? As you know if you have a burning counter when it comes tot he resolve effects stage you must choose whether to suffer slow or 1 wound. My question is if you have multiple counters does the damage stack? Example: Random has 3 counters, decides to take slow with one of them (I'm working on the logic that slow doesn't stack) does that mean that the remaining two counters are instantly wounds or if you take slow or does it cancel out the other counters all together? Or is it not possible to stack burning counters in the first place? If looked at other sites and they haven't been clear and I can't find anything about it in the rule book so I was wondering if anybody knew. If you plan to answer please explain fully. Thank you heaps
  14. Did anyone else look at that mini and just wanna cry? It looks to me like a cross between Harry Potter and a monkey. Here is my attempt at green-stuffing her to look a little less... that.
  15. Just would like some input on the ability that the union miners do that allows them to bury then pop back out next to a friendly M&SU Member (dont have the book right here and too lazy to go get it so I cant quite recall the name of the exact ability) As I read it it sez that you pop out next to a MS&U Member should another Union Miner not be currently in play, but, I remember reading on these forums somewhere that someone was using this ability to slingshot a bunch to Kaeris. Problem being that she is an ASSET not a MEMBER, so am I correct in assuming that this technique is not possible, the reason I do not think it possible is that if you were to take Johan with Kaeris to start with the crew calculator will tell you that he will cost the premium for out of faction hire and this will only change once an actual MS&U Member is added... I hope I made scenes. (no grama Nazis please, I know mine is terrible )
  16. Kaeris' main weapon is "Ignite" (Cb 6 :tomes:tomes) which has "Turn It Up" as a trigger (Cb :tomes:tomes with the second tome faded; after inflicting damage take another shot at -1:tomesCb) 1. Since Ignite has two :tomes already, is Turn It Up done automatically if damage is inflicted? 2. Why is the second :tomes faded in Turn It Up's description; shouldn't it have two solid :tomes since it is based on the Cb of Ignite that has two solid :tomes? 3. Assuming TIU is used for a second shot, would it now use be a shot at Cb 5 :tomes? 4. Assuming that Ignite shots damage and the needed tomes are there, can the second (or subsequent) shot continue to use the TIU trigger after damaging? 5. If so, would it work like this? First shot: 6Cb:tomes:tomes Second shot: 5Cb:tomes Third shot: 4Cb no suit Fourth shot: 3Cb with a negative tome for a suit??? Thanks
  17. So I have all the arcanists, beasts, and constructs that are out and it's about time for me to start getting everything painted and ready to go. Right now I am working on the things I will be using at Adepticon. Comments and thoughts welcome! I wanted my Kaeris to stand out more so I have up high, pinned her to the lamp post, and the lamp post to the base also put some weight under the base to make it not fall over. I really like how it turned out and I cannot wait to see it finished. Avatar Ramos, pain to get together and to fit on the base but I love the model
  18. Not my best work, but this is what I get in 3 days of painting.
  19. Kaeris (from card) Flaming Armor: Armor +1. Models hitting this model with melee Strikes or melee Spells suffer 1 Wd and receive one Burning Token. Iggy (from Twisting Fates, p. 217) Burning Aura: Bulletproof 1. When this model is hit by a melee Strike or melee Spell, the attacker suffers 1 Wd and gains a Burning Token. Disengaging (RM, p. 48) Models cannot simply move past enemy models without risking an attack. To represent this, the moment a moving enemy model would leave a model's longest melee range, that model may interrupt the enemy's move and attempt to block it by making one melee Strike, called a disengaging Strike, targeting that enemy model. No Triggers may be declared by the blocking or moving model during this Strike. The Strike does not inflict Dg or Wd on the moving model if it hits. Instead, if the Strike is a hit, the Action of the disengaging model ends immediately. Models being Pushed, Placed, or Switched cannot be blocked when they leave an enemy model's melee range. So my question is (despite the slight wording differences in Flaming Armor and Burning Aura which may change once Iggy makes it onto store shelves) would either Kaeris or Iggy, while attempting to disengage, inflict 1 Wd to the model making the successful disengaging strike against them and give that model a burning token? Keep in mind that neither Flaming Armor, nor Burning Aura state anything about Dg being dealt or Wds inflicted, merely that they have been hit by a melee Strike (or melee Spell). Also note, that it's not likely to result in any tactical advantage, merely the side effects of taking a Wd and having a burning token.
