    Newbie questions

Hi. I just picked up the Core Rulebook and a few others, and had some questions. If these have been answered already, apologies. 1) Suit types in Fate Deck. Aside from Undead having to select Crows as their Defining Suit, is there anything else that checks for this, or are the names just there to avoid confusion? 2) The core book goes from tools right into weapons. Do weapons give you a [+] when using them, or that is that just for the toolkits? 3) All the toolkits say Skill 4 in the table. Does that add to/replace your skill, or is that a requirement?
  2. Hi, I just got Into the Steam and I noticed that the Assembly Line Tarot has Allegiance as one of the pulls. Say one of my players wanted to be an Invested right from the beginning, does that mean everyone has to use the Assembly Line? I didn't see anything in the Core Book 2.0 Tarot to indicate an allegiance (Stations don't really point you in that sort of direction), and it seems a little odd that one player would already have a direct connection to a faction before any of the other characters. It also looks like I can't do any fresh off the train scenarios if I wanted to be fair either. Even if the factions made those sort of connections earthside, it seems like I'd have to give everyone that option to choose an allegiance.
  3. Hi. This might be a strange thing to ask in this forum - because I generally assume if you're on these forums you really like the game - but I'm hoping to find issues with the system so I can look out for them later when teaching friends or running an adventure. This isn't a "this system sucks, who's with me?" thread, but a lot of you here have have way more experience with the system than I do, so you've probably seen things that aren't apparent when you first read the rules. To give a few examples from other games I've ran: D&D 3.5/Pathfinder: Once you start getting past 8th level or so, the number system begins to fall apart. You see this in Natural Armor; a lot of monsters start to have huge amounts of Natural armor to counteract the -AC for size and to account for the players' high Base Attack Bonus. Something like this is even exposed in 4th edition D&D, when the TNs for skill checks raise based on your level for no other reason than to maintain a certain percentage chance of success. Savage Worlds: the SW system isn't really built to have the party fight one BBEG. A party of four or five will always beat a party of one, unless you somehow invent a way for that one person to have more attack than normally allowed for one character. That doesn't mean you can't have a dramatic, final fight against there villain of the story; your crime boss/dragon just needs to have enough minions there to back him/her up. Conan, Adventures in an Age Undreamed Of (Modiphius): At a certain point (Conan doesn't have levels, so it's a little hard to say exactly when), the players make short order of their opponents in battle. The Momentum (a resource) the players can generate is faster than the Doom (a recourse) the GM can in the same amount of time (Doom is player dependent). Depending on your game, this may or may not be a bad thing. I've thrown Dynasty Warrior levels of minions at the players. The players feel like epic heroes (which is good), but it feels weird as a GM when you're wondering if your group of fourteen minions is going to be enough to wound a party of four... and then do that four more times ("Didn't you say this castle was deserted? We just killed like 70 people.")

    List Advice: Zipp Denial list.

Hey all!! I have a list I am planning on trying out in a game tonight but i would love some feedback for it! The general idea is its built to utterly shut down and limit your oponents ability to score VP while keeping you mobile enough to achieve your own goals. Current line up is Zipp: - Rambaling Diatribe - The Gift of the Gab - Dirty Cheater Fingers: - Dirty Cheater First Mate: - Treasure Map - Where the Captain Can't See Iron Skeeter -Poorly Handeled Explosives Iron Skeeter - Airship Spotlight Gremlin Crier Gremlin Crier Zipp Fingers and The First mate do what they do best. Disrupt the enemy and deny VP. The Skeeters carry the Criers around dropping markers for you, and if necessary act as an express delivery system for the Criers Aura during key turns to shut models scoring and conditions. When your Criers die then the ideal move is to use PHE on the resulting Bayou to drop it as a bomb in the enemy. Or just use the bayou as a free scheme runner or distraction peace. Overall it would just be built to focus on the objectives and mess with the opponent
  5. Hi there! I'm fairly new to Malifaux and on the 22 of july I will take part in my first tournament (fortunately is a friendly tournament with friends so nothing too competitive). Since schemes and strategies are already out , i was wondering if you could help me decide what do bring in the matches, maybe some tips on wich model works best in those sceniarios, and what schemes i should choose. I have Lilith, Jackob Lync, Zoraida, The Dreamer as masters and their crews. I have also a fair amout of other models to help them (like doppleganger, widow weaver, waltgeist, nekima, Tannen, Graves and so on...) Thanks in advance! These are the matches: First Match: Deployment: Flank Deployment (13) Strategy: Symbols of Authority (Masks) Schemes: * Punish the Weak (Masks) * Set Up (3) * Show of Force (7) * Take One For the Team (10) * Vendetta (12) Second Match: Deployment: Corner Deployment (10) Strategy: Public Executions (Tomes) Schemes: * Eliminate the Leadership (Tomes) * Covert Breakthrough (1) * Dig Their Graves (2) * Undercover Entourage (5) * Search the Ruins (8) Third Match: Deployment: Standard Deployment (6) Strategy: Supply Wagons (Jokers) Schemes: * Guarded Treasure (Jokers) * Hold Up Their Forces (4) * Inescapable Trap (6) * Take Prisoner (9) * Public Demonstration (13)
  6. Greetings Thunderers, Been a dedicated NB player since I picked up the game (start of wave 2), but have decided I want a change of scenery so to speak. Since I already have Lynch and his thematic crew, who are quite capable at killing, I was looking to get a more supporty master to balance it out, amd have decided to give Shenlong a try. So basically, I was thinking over picking up: -Temple of the Dawn box - 10T Bros -Samurai or Katanaka Snipers -Low or Wandering River Monks Is this a decent starting point? Are there any obvious roles that I'm missing across the two crews? Which of the last models would you suggest and why? Thanks in advance, and looking forward to bringing the Thunder!

    Painting plan, where to start

Hi everyone. This is a weird question (pun intended) but hey it's a slow day at work and 'faux players and forum members have been very helpful to this noob in the past so I figure why not. I've stumbled into Ten Thunders after an impulse Tanuki purchase (they are so cool and I got the extra one in the box as well) and picking up a collection from a friend who gave me a price I could not refuse. So I've got a few models, no idea what they do and I'm actually not going to play them immediately as I'm learning the game with Outcasts at the moment. So why the post? Well I'm going to do my best to give these awesome models a decent paint job. There is no pressure to get them on the table so I can take my time and hopefully do them justice. What I need from you devoted TT players is an idea of what to paint. What, out of my collection, goes with what and where should I start putting a 50ss crew together? Now I know that a fixed crew is not how 'faux is played but the idea is to get a base crew done first then add to that once I start playing it and figure out what everything does. The only rules, should you accept this strange challenge, is that it must only be models I have already and it must include the absolutely fabulous Shadow Emissary which is first on the painting list no matter what. What you come up with doesn't have to be tournament killer list just something that fits together on the table. So if you're bored, if you have the inclination and fancy helping me out then build me a list for 50ss. My collection Asami Tanaka Amanjaku Ohaguro Bettari 3 Yokai Shenlong Sensei Yu 2 Peasants 3 Monks of High River The Brewmaster Apprentice Wesley Fingers 3 Moon Shinobi 3 Monks of Low River 2 Katanaka Snipers Izamu, the Armor 4 Tanuki Shadow Emissary Thanks

    Needle Mix up

Hi all I need some help. It looks as though I've managed to mix up the different size nozzles/needles. Any idea how I can tell what sizes the needles are (should be 2x3mm and 2x2mm - already spotted which the 5mm ones are) and which nozzles go with them? These are cheap unbranded brushes/parts so completely unmarked. I have a set of digital calipers, but at which point do i take a measurement from?.. The main body of each needle is the same diameter Thanks!
  9. Hello everyone. I'm returning (again) to the game having found some local players. I played a few games a long time ago and have a small collection of the old metal gremlin models. It's basically the 'Kin' box plus a couple of slop haulers and some young LaCroix. These were from a time when Gremlins wasn't a full blown faction in it's own right. I've picked up the latest rules and cards for my old models and I do have just enough to play games without a great deal of choice. So far I've limited myself to Henchmen Hardcore as I try and remember how to play the game! So what's the problem I hear you ask. You thought it I'm sure you did. Well the problem is that whilst I think all the latest models are really nice they just don't fit in with my old metal ones. Nostalgia and the fact that I painted them quite well means that I'm not excited about mixing the two styles. So I've decided that I want to branch out into a new faction as I get back into the game. I just have no real clue which ones. So instead of multi-posting across all the faction sub forums I though I'd try a post here. In a futile attempt to assist anyone brave enough to answer this post here are some things that might help: Rule of cool means I was thinking maybe the Viktorias from Outcasts. The problem there is that I like to keep things themed so after that box I'm struggling a bit as Outcasts seem quite eclectic in there styles. The fact that the Kin are imitations of Perdita and the Latigo Posse made me look there. The Gulid seem to have more options within the same (cowboy steampunk) theme but is it a good or bad thing that I think it might just play too similar to the gremlins I have? I'm just not sold on the Neverborn or Resurrectionists looks or concepts. I have no clue about the Ten Thunders as they were not around last time I played. However who doesn't like Asian influenced Ninja and Shaolin types? In other games I tend to prefer the more elite forces that are flexible but brutal rather than the horde style forces (not applicable here) or the very high synergy/tricky/control forces that need to stay out of the fight and be clever. For Malifaux I'll be playing a lot of Henchman Hardcore to start and whilst I wouldn't mind attending tournaments in the future this is not my 'hardcore tournament system' it's more about fun and theme and the aesthetics of it all. So whilst I've written a wall of text I've probably not helped you much in answering the 'where do you think I should start looking for a new faction?' question I'm asking. Any thoughts appreciated. EDIT: Just to add that the reason I'm asking and not just experimenting is that both cash and hobby time are very limited so wanted to avoid, if possible, going down blind alleys and ending up with a little of everything rather than a good core of stuff I can build on.
  10. Hey everyone so we'll be hosting a story encounter tournament at my lgs. I need help coming up with something fun, that's the entire idea of this tournament. I need help with ideas and maybe experiences that you've guys had. We're not doing the rule book story encounters or anything that comes in boxes since it's they're pretty lack luster. My ideaIs to have an ongoing story throughout the rounds to have people interested in the story. Round 1: Jailbreak, two crews have infiltrated the malifaux city prison and received plans for the next big heist your goal is to extract your informant who was captured after passing on the plans Round 2: The heist, two crews have found and planned a big heist on a giant soul stones stash, your crew needs to steal the most stones before the guards are alerted. Round 3: get getaway, the Malifaux train is taking off and the guards are hot on your trail and the train is leaving get on the train and escape. This is the idea I have I'm open to other ideas as long as they're fun and thematic. The plan is to release comic book style advertisement for the event and heist blueprints.
  11. I've mainly been an Arcanists player until recently when I decided to break into 10T (Mei Feng turned out to be a gateway drug). Right now I'm quite interested in playing Misaki and have acquired a number of pieces which I've tried out in a game or two, but I'm feeling kind of swamped when it comes to picking further options for expanding what I have here. With no further ado, here's what is currently in my grubby mits: The Thunder box Mei Feng Box Rail Golem Metal Gamin Shadow Emissary Samurai Wokou Raiders Oiran Lust So determining where to go from here has been a little tricky. I see that I could use potentially better scheme runners than what I have available (I like the Oiran models but I'm not really sure about trusting them...I might just chop them up and mod some Jorogumo if I get any). For that end I've been considering the following based off of what I've seen on the forums: Tengu 10T Bros Any other suggestions? For some more ranged options I'm pretty torn between the Katanaka Snipers and the Archers, I'm honestly not quite sure which would work better with Misaki here. I've been looking at the Bunraku (I assume they can be used at least) just as a general option, or maybe some Obsidian Oni as both seem like they could be an interesting linclude if they're compatible. I'm still very much feeling out this faction and what is available to me, as much of what is in 10T is new to me and just doesn't see much use in local meta here. Any advice on what would work nicely with what I have thus far (especially with Misaki) is welcome advice.

Hey all, As the title says I have a local tournament next weekend but the standard of play is supposed to be high! I am fairly new so expecting to get my arse whooped but I want to get the most out of what I have and lets be honest does anyone play to lose?? So I have: Rasputina box Snow storm December Acolytes x3 Freikorps Trapper, Librarian and Specialist That is my model pool, what I am looking for is suggestions on what to take for which strategy, we will be playing GG16, and am not adverse to buying a couple small models if I NEED too, but this is all painted and would be a pain to do more on such short notice! Thanks in advance for your help, I know Raspy can't play all strats but any pointers are appreciated!

    Kirai Questions/Buy List

Hey, friends! With the possibility of getting a translucent Kirai coming up on Black Friday I thought I may dip my toe in. She's really the only rezzer that REALLY has me interested and it would be a little bit more of a painting/modeling adventure than anything else. That said, I know I wouldn't get away with JUST her crew box (especially since it seems most of it doesn't start on the board haha) Looking just at her summoning card it looks like I would really want at least a Hanged, Shikome, and Datsue Ba (of what is out and going to be in the sale). What else would I be looking at? Thanks in advance for any and all insight! Note: Since this will be more of a painting and modeling project I *am* looking to keep it a bit thematic so I'm less worried about power levels and stuff.

    Zorida

Just got the swamp swamp hag set for my gremlin crew. so far she looks pretty awesome especially with the Bad Jujus incredible strength. I was reading through zoridas car and noticed she could summon in other miniatures with a WP of under 4 and the stat Mercenary attribute, are there any card that fit that description.
  18. Hi, not sure if I'm posting in the right place but I was hoping for some advice. I have played a few games with the dreamer crew and a teddy and so far I'm loving the game. I'm now wanting to go into a 2nd crew/mastermaster since most of the stuff I want for my dreamer crew isn't out yet. I want a crew who can really tale a punch and give one back harder up close and personal. What would people recommendrecommend for a tough close combat crew? I have no preference to faction but I only build fluffy lists so I build on the theme of a crew box. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
  19. The title says it all. I am new to the game and Marcus is my first crew. Thx for the help!

Why is Lady J even a thing?

Hello fellow Resser´s, i just came back to Malifaux because i finally found someone to play against and well he has Lady J(and only Lady J at the moment he wants sonia but she is not ava t the moment).... I played Yan Lo against him 2 times and got butchered... iam simply unabled to get 2 rounds of shooting in against her and when i got her down she heals back up and i cant kill her or the Judge... The Judge runs around with the Upgrade that makes Death Marshalls immune to Horror Duels and yeah Lady J kills stuff.... we ran the following: His List: Guild Crew - 35 - Dustup Lady Justice -- 5 Pool +Justice Unleashed [1] +Last Stand [1] Scales of Justice [3] Death Marshal [6] Death Marshal [6] Death Marshal [6] The Judge [9] +Flames of the Pit [2] My List: Resurrectionists Crew - 35 - Dustup Yan Lo -- 7 Pool +Fortify The Spirit [1] +Reliquary [1] Soul Porter [3] Ashigaru [5] Ashigaru [5] Chiaki the Niece [6] Izamu the Armor [10] What can i do against Lady J how to stop her? Should i even try to kill her or Judge? We had Turf War and i went for Bodyguard on Izamu and the Scheme where you have to kill the most expensive modell of the enemy. I made some positioning errors with Yan Lo which Killed him in turn 3 but man Pine Box is madeness against Izamu.... I just got Turf War VP until Turn Three and he got a line in the sand and turf war in turn three and i had only Chiaki an Ashigaru the Porter and a buried Izamu left any one any tipps on how o defeat Lady J? Thanks Not a Guild Bulldog
  21. So has anybody else noticed this message on the pullmyfinger website? Wikispaces is no longer supporting Free Wiki's that are not focused on K-12 & Higher Education. This wiki does not meet the classification and is going to be deleted in under 30 days unless it becomes paid for! This is not a drill, this wiki has less then 30 days left! 22. Hi everybody on Wyrd! I have played about three games using my Lucius starter box and I am currently looking for more minis to buy and paint. I know I should probably stay with Lucius for a while longer. However, I have a yearning for more minis and was thinking about getting another box of a master or some more minis. Problem is I don't know who could "Compensate" for Lucius in a tourney setting. Lucius as I understand it is a lot of support and laying down schemes quickly. Seems nice for scenario play. Now who could compensate for harder hitting power in certain schemes? or should I just get more minis to play around with in my list, in that case which ones? I currently have: Lucius box set Austringer Dashel (old name i guess) and 2 extra guild guards. I also have the Lynch crew box so technically I could go neverborn as well. I was looking into McMourning as he seems crazy fun, also Sonnia for witchling stalker summoning games. Any and all suggestions are welcome!!! P.S. might b worth to inform you that I have played a lot of wargames before including Infinity (scenarios heavy game), warmachine and ye old horrendous 40k
  23. Hello! I brought out my ten thunders for Me2. I usually play ressers but have dabble in Thunders in Me1.5 and beta. My great fondness for Miasaki and her flexibility in taking on various schemes are what drives my hand in picking Thunders! The 50SS list is pretty much her box sett, 1 ten thunders archers and Yamaziko. This is the point were things go south for me. I feel that my 3 Torokage an Ottoto never really do any thing( particulary Ottoto) . They are usually the victim of spells our lead poisoning around turn 3, in 4 games the 3 torokage have killed: 1 mechanical pigeon, 1 ronin. Ottoto have killed a ronin. The Torokage have saved me a game by dropping a lot of scheme markers for a line in the sand game 3, even though any non peon would do the trick. I try playing them as some sort of flank killer is that a tactic which they are not suited for?The Torokages stats makes them excellent killers on paper but I feel they lack any movement ability to make them actual ninjas instead of well trained goons in pjs. Pleas do any of you fine gentlemen have a good suggestion for the use of Torokage and Ottoto in a Miasaki list?
  24. Hey all. I wanted to ask some help from you amazing painters out there, I am about to embark on a nerve shattering journey of painting up my first Rider, The Pale Rider, I would like to hold on to the whole 4 Horsemen theme at least a little bit, so I suppose that the Pale Rider would be death? So I would need to know how to paint a Pale Horse. I mean I really need help as in what paints to use, if someone can throw them out from the top of his/her head? I have access to Vallejo, GW and Army Painter in a store here and will be able to order online if needed. So what paints and washes would I use to paint a pale horse? Also I have ordered these ancient bases for the Riders, even though they break the whole in faction base theme, I rather still keep the Riders on the ancient ruins riding forth. What paints would you use to paint something like this but maybe a tad bit more darker and apocalyptic:
