  1. A friend and I just started to play Malifaux recently, hepicked the dreamer as his first crew and I picked Seamus as mine. The other daywe had are first game and by the end he still had most of his crew and all I hadleft was avatar Seamus who was sitting on top of my claim jump and Madame Sybelle who was running er.., Shambling off into the far end of hisdeployment zone. Lucky for me he focused on killing all my crew and forgot hismain Objective he ended the game with 1 VP to my 3 VP. But I’m worried thedreamers crew slapped the crap out of me and I’m looking for some advice on howto play Seamus and his crew against the dreamer. Any help will be appreciated. RessurectionistsCrew - 25 – Scrap (claim jump) body guard (Seamus not announced), break though Seamus, the Mad-Hatter -- 5 Pool + Seamus, Avatar of Dread [2ss] Copycat Killer [2ss] Rotten Belles [4ss] Rotten Belles [4ss] Rotten Belles [4ss] Madame Sybelle [6ss] Neverborn Crew -25 – Scrap (reconnoiter), body guard (dreamer not announced) and exterminate undead The Dreamer -- 4 Pool 1 Daydream [2ss] Lilitu [7ss] Lelu [7ss] Coppelius [9ss]
  2. Hey just joined the forum and love this game! First off someone correct me if I am posting in the right area, I am new so still navigating the site. I was just wondering if anyone could help me, I don't have the Twisting fates rulebook yet...and I can't find the Avatar Dreamer rules anywhere. 1) Is there anywhere I can see the rules online? 2) To people who have seen the rules, I have heard that he has the ability to make terrain and if so what are they? I wanted to get the terrain made and I don't know what I need. Thanks all!
  3. ***UPDATE*** PAINTED PICS ADDED, 6 Oct 11 Greetings, all! Amid a number of commissions, I've been slowly working on a conversion I've been milling around ever since I saw the LCB and Dreamer avatar art. I have it all sculpted up and ready to prime- It is inspired by the Avatar art (obviously), but also a little bit of Where the Wild Things Are, and The Neverending Story. I never liked the fact that the non-nightmare Lord Chompy Bits did not have the Dreamer with him, so I wanted to rectify that. For the record, I did not make the Dreamer Asian- he just kind of looks like that in these pics. He is actually squinting as he yells, which should look more natural once painted. I have some big plans for the back wall, in order to spice it up a little bit too. In addition to this model, I will be adding two Nightmare Teddies, Coppelius, some Alps, some Daydreams, and some Stiched Togethers. I have some fun basing ideas for them that I will reveal as I build them. Anyway, lemme know what you think, and I'll post progress shots as they come (which might be a while- I have a lot on my plate right now). ***UPDATE*** I know I said no updated for a few weeks, but while the primer was setting on my commission pieces I got a little more construction work done... Dreamer- I primed the Dreamer just so he would be ready to paint when I get the chance, but I left the back because there is going to be a Daydream perched on the headboard (and I still need to buy them). The bed magnetizes together for display. Coppelius- In case the picture is too dark, Coppelius is stanging near/on a dresser, with the drawer filled with eyeballs (made from lead buckshot). I will probably have some toys or something on top of the dresser in the finished product. ***UPDATE*** The first painted crew member-
  4. I would guess this has been covered, but I cannot find anything really related so I'm posting this to either get it clarified or to get a link to an already cleared thread. This question relates to Guild crews with Guild Hounds and to The Dreamer-crews, perhaps others that I may have missed. I know the Max Soulstone Pool is only to be considered when building a crew, during the encounter there is no maximum. But when you take Guild Hounds in a guild crew you get one bonus soulstone for each two hounds you hired. The wording reads "at the start of the encounter" but also states that "the Soulstone Pool's maximum number of Soulstones remains unchanged". So the wording "at the start" is really what makes it confusing. It could be just before it starts, or just after. The same goes for Dreamer-crews, who get one bonus soulstone per nightmare model hired, up to max 5. Wording is the same, except that the second part about maximum isn't there. Basically the question is, can you go beyond 8 stones with either of these abilities? Can you hire four hounds and save 8 stones to star the game with 10ss pool? and can the Dreamer really start the game with 13 stones?
  5. So, going with the word "Immediately", this would mean that at the end of the completed action, The Dreamer/LCB (whichever has just been unburied) instantly activates. This means that if a Daydream moves up, and casts Frightening Dream, and unburies LCB, then LCB activates interrupting the Daydream's activation. And then once LCB is done, you go back to the Daydream to finish it's activation. Also If The Dreamer or Lord Chompy Bits are killed, then the other one is unburied, and activates immediately. Allowing them to strike back out of sequence. This is how I first read the rules, but have been told this is incorrect, you instead wait for the active model's activation to end, and then immediately activate the unburied Dreamer or LCB. Does anyone have any rules to back up either side of this? I would hate to think I've been playing it wrong.
  6. My query is somewhat grown out of this thread, regarding Companion activations and immediate activations. My understanding of Companion activations is that they are simultaneous, i.e. happening at the same time. All the models in the Companion group activate together, then the player chooses which order to resolve those activations. This is important for models like the Guild Hounds - if one Hound moves away, the other still gains the benefits of activating within range of another Hound, because their activations started simultaneously but are resolved sequentially. Towards the end of the linked thread, there was a discussion on when Lord Chompy Bits would activate if he was unburied by the Dreamer's death in the middle of the opponent's Companion chain. The dominant theory seemed to be that Chompy would activate, then the opponent's chain would finish. My contention is that all the models in the Companion chain are already activated (simultaneously!) at the beginning of the chain, and that all their activations must therefore be resolved before Chompy can activate (since he cannot be activated during other models' activations). I'd appreciate whatever thoughts and clarifications everyone has to offer.
  7. I've been playing for maybe a month and originally picked Pandora purely on the basis that Baby Kade was in the box. Since then I've gotten very accustomed to her and I really like her playstyle. Along the way, I picked up Lelu and Lillitu as well as a Teddy and two Insidious Madness. I ended up getting his Box Set since I had so many models that could theoretically work with him (and I wanted Coppelius for my Pandora crew). The problem is that our store hasn't received any Daydreams yet. I will buy some when we get them for certain but in the meantime my games with him have been less than stellar. LCB or Dreamer always seem to be left in the open inviting retaliation. It seems that most of their shenanigans are only really effective with Daydreams. So, is it worth trying to make him work or should I just wait for the Daydreams?
  8. ok so here's my dreamer alpha strike(i don't know if its common or not) list important parts Dreamer/Lcb 2x Daydreams Deploy one daydream in a very safe spot with space for the dreamer and lcb to be called back to(daydream 1) second daydream as close to your opponents model that you want to die(I like going after the master).(daydream 2) last place the dreamer within 6" of both 1st turn companion the dreamer with his two daydreams daydream 2 activates (1) walk 6" (1) magical extension frightening dream bring out LCB within 6" (0) Calm Nightmares-bury lcb bring out dreamer in b2b Dreamer Activates (0) I can fly (1)walk 7" *now your at 20" from where daydream 2 started if the model you wanna attack is with in 4" do this (0) nightmare Friend bring out lcb in b2b LCB activates (+1)melee expert attack model with ten in claws *at this point you're attacking a model that was 24" away from daydream 2 *don't forget triggers esp onslaught (1) attack model again if you need to or walk closer to another target (1) and one more time if you need to or hey another model (0) dreamer's daydream (daydream 3) to summon a daydream but don't place farther than 6" away Daydream 3 activates (0) calm nightmares bring out the dreamer in b2b (1) walk to a good position to either let this model be killed to bring out say a teddy or out of harms way. Daydream 1 activates (1) magical extension frightening dream bring out LCB within 6" (0) calm nightmares bring out the dreamer in b2b *(1) lead nightmare to pull daydream 2 back into companion range * another fun thing is to leave daydream 3 out by the other teams crew as bait so that when they go and kill him they summon a nightmare (i like teddy for this) as they die and you'll have a dead daydream to do another alpha strike with *also to add some more range instead of having the dreamer take only one ap have him walk again for another 7" then do his nightmare friend 0 action and if you need it have lcb use his general ap that he's left with to walk again then just use his melee expert and hope for onslaught(or cheat it) *you can also always drop a bunch of nightmares at 26" with the dreamer frighting dream trigger all my friends So with this you have at least one attack with lcb up to 35" away from where your first daydream activated and put The Dreamer in a very safe spot. Questions? Ideas to make it better? (yes I know run on sentences)
  9. Here's a quick slideshow of my completed Dreamer crew I did for my gaming groups Youtube channel. The idea for the channel is to showcase our finnished crews and do battle reports so let me know what you think. Coments are welcome and let me know if there is anything in paticular you would like to see. Link is below for the slideshow. http://youtu.be/iaQXpXzdVfI
  10. Did we play this correctly; Vicky activates and is in melee range of the Dreamer and a DayDream. Her first strike kills the Daydream and triggers Whirlwind. The Daydream, before being removed from the board, gets to place a buried nightmare in base contact. I then unbury LCB and bury the Dreamer so Vicky doesnt attack him at some point (with more Whirlwind.) My question was this; if the Vicky was not in range of the Dreamer, and her trigger kills a Daydream, does the trigger not take place because there was no remaining model to attack - or is the timing of the Daydream killed/unburing a nightmare such that the trigger waits for a new model to be placed and for her to attack that with the trigger?
  11. (authors note: Story contains mature content, including mature language and themes. Reader discretion is advised. Also note, liberties have been taken with certain characters that may or may not reflect cannon. I hope however that you are entertained with my portrayals.) The smoke drifted up in lazy little rings, eventually disappearing into the haze above the fogged-over streetlamp. Old force of habit that came mainly from being lost in thought. She blew the rest of the smoke out in a huff, crushing the cigarette against the streetlamp. It didn’t even taste right. Not tonight. Her eyes fell back the weak line of illumination disappearing around the corner of the foggy street. #&(% Samael. Her brows drew together in an angry crease, and she pushed off the streetlight with a snarl. It was across the street and into the pub that had been cleared out by the Guild earlier that day. The light through the windows from the streetlamps outside could have passed for moonlight, stretching shadows of tables and chairs across the floor in strange, eerie patterns. None of which caught Sonnia’s eye. She went straight to the washroom, pushing through the swinging door with a surprising amount of silence for the amount of force used shoving the door, as it caught on it’s hinges and lightly creaked back, then back again several times before coming to rest. There was only enough light to see because she had become used to the dark. “You indiscriminate soulless STUPID bitch!” she screamed, the only witness the age-smudged mirror in front of her. “Why not let the rift just rip you a new asshole? Did you even think beyond the capacity of a lilly-brained schoolgirl? #&(%! That assaholic! Ego-maso-#&(%in-cistic! Man! No, wait. No, #&(% YOU! You’re the dumbass might-as-well-be whore who can’t let well enough alone!” she screamed at the mirror, her face distorted in passion and rage and bitterness, making angry pointing motions seemingly at random. The one thing no one could see. Must never see. She leaned in closer to the mirror and her own tortured reflection. And wiped her eyes clean from the mist of not-quite tears. The anger broke, and she heaved a broken sigh, letting her knees give, easing herself against the sink, sliding to the floor. Banging her head lightly against the cabinets several times. It was supposed to be distant past. Before her great change. Things like… trusting, or …admiring… those don’t belong any more. Wanting. She buried her forehead in a gloved hand, rubbing along one brow. “I’m …losing it.” There had been a time, long ago, she had been called Livian. Another when she had been Samantha, a passing memoir of the younger sister she once had. Samantha had hated her name. Had gone by the name Sam J. Sonnia now had her real name back, but she hated it just as much as Samantha had hated hers. And their last name… The corner of her mouth curled up in a leer without her even realizing it. It was easier in those days, in some ways. Those days between. Between the catalyst and the Creed. Her head tilted back, and she stared past the ceiling, off somewhere into the past. Once she had stayed with a gambler. In those years when she had tried to lose her identity, had handed out lies as often as she smoked cigarettes, had leeched from the souls of both good men and those stained… or perhaps they had been stained by her presence. Whether they turned sour before or after she ran from them didn’t matter. Everywhere, inescapably, was her own failure. Both to save the innocent bits of the world she loved that, bitterly, always would lose their innocence at some point, and to ultimately fulfill the vow she had made. Her Criid. “I will scour the stains from the soul of this earth. I will live until all is as clean as at birth.” She spoke into the darkness, softly, passionately. The moment stretched on, until her sword settled, slipping slightly upon her back. Sonnia frowned. For years she had been trying to exorcize the world of the monsters that ripped at reality. Cheating fate. Destroying her fate. She had been happy as a girl. Well, happy enough. Even if she had been corrupted by lesser evils all too young. But it would have been a life. A worthwhile life. Hell, maybe she would have grown up to have married a man by now, have a family… She turned her head to the side suddenly, violently. Stupid thought born in ignorance. Who could say it wouldn’t be much the same? Maybe worse. She was the one touched by the demon, wasn’t she? And something caught the corner of her eye. A pair of small, bare feet under the swinging door in front of her. “Yes, you are the one Sonnia.” It said from the other room, the voice of a little boy. “And you know why we come, don’t you? That little spark of hope you have, that soft spot for children. That love for men who deserve nothing and deserve far better than you. Until these die completely, we will come to you like a moth to a flame. It is anathema. It is beautiful. It burns and hurts and you wield this, so we wield you.” “You lie like a clockwork whore, D.” she said softly, with a strange hint of compassion edging her tone. And sighed deeply. The demon out there, that Neverborn, had taken the likeness of her little brother David. She couldn’t be certain if it had been the demon itself that had possessed her brother, or her brother who had created the demon… blood dripping from his hands, eyes closed, calling out as she hid under her bed in desperately frightened tones about the monster in his closet. So long ago, and none of them had believed. Chompy Bits, he had called it. He had walked down the stairs… and fallen. She had escaped onto the roof, run to the authorities. But he hadn’t been there when they returned. Apparently, instead, he had chosen to haunt her. But only when she was alone. Only when there could be no witnesses. The medallion around her neck always grew uncomfortably hot, but never actually removed the presence of this particular perversion. “You know you haven’t come just to bruise my ego, D. Not a hell of a lot you can do about that. So what’s the news this time?” “He comes. But not alone.” Her eyes widened. “You’re sure? How is it you always know what’s on my mind, anyway?” “I want your dreams more than any other. Until you let them go, they are not yet mine.” “So why don’t you crush my hope and lie to me?” “They draw me because all the little dreams you discard so readily make me see how delicious those you hold on to will be when you eventually give them to me. Why take them before they are ripe and rotten?” “I #&(%ing hate myself, you know that?” Sonnia said, figuring her own personal demon as good an audience as any. “I get my head messed up about a man after I foreswore men, love, my old life, my old way. I’m supposed to burn you to ash. It’s what I’ve sworn. It’s my Criid. But it’s me, D. I’d have to give you up. And somehow you have me thinking I’d screw myself over if I forsook one of the few things left that defines my humanity. Sometimes I think it’s the humanity that needs to get burned out of us all. Sometimes. But then I remember. People like Sam and you and dad. Or who you used to be, anyway. And I think of other people. Hell, I do sometimes think of Sammael. Even if I’m the worst hypocrite on Malifaux, I’d die before giving up on them. Potential, I suppose you could say. And I hate it. I hate the people who abuse it. People and #&(%ing… people that shouldn’t be called people, twisting and perverting… making the lie real. Doing the same damn thing I did back before I understood the things I needed to learn. Idiot girl that I was. Why the #&(% didn’t you just let me die, D? Why couldn’t you have just let me #&(%ing die?” “I love you. You keep the monsters away.” Sonnia’s brow furrowed. She didn’t understand. “Like hell. You are a monster, you little shit.” Just then, the medallion on her chest pressed into her bosom with a painful weight and there was a silent sort of thump from the other room. “YES, AND SO ARE YOU.” Spoke a voice pulled straight from your worst nightmares, a huge silhouette rising even above the top of the swinging door. Before it was gone after she blinked. “#&(%.” She swore, rising to her feet. Pushing through the pub in a rush back to the street, the mist had thinned and the light from the streetlamps seemed much brighter than before. She had just enough time to pull out a cigarette and light it when she saw the silhouette in the mist coming toward her from the end of the road. “You BASTARD!” she yelled at the approaching silhouette. “Next time, you say when you want to meet you’d by all the rifts better be FIFTY MINUTES EARLY!” “Sorry Sonnia. She got away. I only managed to off another of her golems, and had to catch the next train. If it’s any consolation, I learned they make great icecubes for margaritas.” A witchling trailed out of the mist behind him, eerie shriveled little thing that it was. “So why do I put up with you? Give me some sign way above Guild level or so help me, Sammael…” “Whoa, speaking of Guild level authority, boss, I’ve got a request. Seems like there’s a new Neverborn around they’re calling Dreamer. Got the tags, time to bag.” Sonnia rubbed her temple. Sammael actually took a few steps backward. “Sonnia,” croaked the witchling, “I feel something near here, like you…” “You are in violation of your privelages!” Sonnia snapped acidly at the witchling, flicking her hand at it and snapping her fingers. The witchling burst into a ball of eerie pale flame and was gone. “I don’t like to repeat myself. To you, I am Master. I #&(%ing hate my name.” she said, tossing her cigarette aside not even half finished. “Come, Sammael. We have a lot of work to do.”
