  1. I'm wondering what people are achieving with the Union Miners' False Claim ability. They can't do it while engaged, so there's no advantage there. For something like Plant Explosives or Spring the Trap, the opponent still only has to pick one of them up for both to be discarded before scoring. I see the basic advantage of placing a marker at a 3" range, but otherwise the only real advantage I see is from other models that discard scheme markers for certain effects. Obviously Collette and co. do a lot of this, but otherwise I only see a couple of times it would help: Willie with Set Charge; the Large Arachnid with Temporary Limb (though it can only do this with one marker); Cojo with Mark Territory (he could benefit from both markers, but what's the list with Union Miners and Cojo in it?). What am I missing about this? I get the value of tossing a marker 3", but it seems to me the advantage of tossing two, one of which disappears at the end of the turn, is limited to a couple of very rare situations outside of a Collette crew. Is there something I'm just not getting here?
  2. Hi all - I'm relatively new to Malifaux, been playing once or twice a week for the past few months and loving every second of it. After an early, fun, but chaotic time with Som'er, I picked up Mei Feng, and I'm really liking her. I've been running her as Ten Thunders, with various combinations of Kang, Rail Golem, Metal Gamin, Rail Workers, and Archers. I'm contemplating where to expand from here, and in particular, whether to emphasize Arcanists or 10 Thunders - eventually I'll pick up more of both but with limited funds I'd like to make smart purchases. I had been thinking I would get the Ramos box: Joss and Howard L. seem like they would work really well with Mei, and even the spiders could be good for some faster moving railwalk targets. But tonight I borrowed a friend's Sidir for a reckoning match, and he was the absolute star of the show: killed McMourning for Assassinate, killed other models for Reckoning, and even helped Burt Jebson (as a mercenary) with his Vendetta against Santiago. So now I'm wondering: in general, do people like Mei better as an arcanist or as 10T? Has anybody run her with Wastrels (since I'd have to buy the McCabe box to get Sidir, I'm wondering about them)? Other directions I should be thinking about to add some tougher, higher stone models to her crew for things like Reckoning? Any and all thoughts appreciated! -Matt
  3. Hi folks. Played my first game with Kaeris last night, a hard fought battle against Collodi that I lost at the last second due to serious Collodi shenanigans - in other words, a very satisfying game for my first time out with a new master. But what I found was that I was getting a lot out of Kaeris' base abilities, and not quite sure what to do about her upgrades. I took Grab and Drop and did manage to use it once to great effect; but the Wings of Fire part never came into play. I'm wondering if more experienced Kaeris players can talk me through her two limited upgrades. Do you have a basic method for deciding whether to take Grab and Drop or Purifying Flame? Have you found really effective ways to take advantage of the Wings of Fire part of G&D? It seems to me like you have to put a lot of energy into it to have something activate with burning near Kaeris in position to move twice and drop a worthwhile scheme marker; I can see it for maybe Plant Explosives, ALitS, I suppose Protect Territory, but it just seems like you have to sort of hold Kaeris back and spend a bunch of AP handing out burning just for a couple of free scheme markers. What am I missing here? Or do people prefer Purifying Flame? Thanks!
  4. So I cobbled together a Captain proxy. I used the decapitated head from the young nephilim kit, but it is larger than most other models, so I used the extra set of legs from the strong arm and the extra left arm of Mr. Graves. I took the hammer from the metal Johan kit and the remainder from a competitors bits and green stuff. Oh, and the Captain's mustache is a rail worker's ponytail. You can see my pics in my gallery. Would you be okay with it on the table? What other Captain proxies have you seen? http://wyrd-games.net/community/uploads/gallery/album_49/gallery_25035_49_203370.jpg
  5. Hi folks. After playing around with various factions, I've committed to the Arcanists, and have really been enjoying playing Ramos and Mei Feng. Up till now I've mostly been using Ramos, with MF for Reckoning or to haul in Kang against Ressers, that sort of thing. But I've recently picked up Raspy and Kaeris as well, along with various models that go along with them (December Acolytes, Union Miners, a proxy Firestarter, etc.). So my question for you all is this: when do you run which arcanist master? Are there particular strategies / schemes where you've found a specific master excels, or particular enemy factions / masters that would prompt you to choose one master over another? Our local scene is very friendly and relaxed, and I'm having a good time just getting the feel of various arcanist combinations, but I'm curious whether people have strong feelings about running particular masters in particular situations. Thanks!

  7. I couldn't really find this'll the rule book, and sometimes it's just easier to ask than hunt endlessly. So Ramos can summon several models, but I was wondering if they're able to be activated the turn they're summoned? Specifically Steam Arachnids, Steam Arachnid Swarms and Electric Creations, but this obviously applies to a broader spectrum of models. Thanks for your time! I'll go back to working out how many individual Arachnids and Swarms I need...
  8. Good evening, fellow Malifaux Enthusiasts! In this thread I shall display my unskillfully painted Mailifaux Models with the help of even less skilfully taken pictures. At this particular point in time I've got a Showgirls Crew done, as well as Hamelin and his hordes of brats, rats and ruffians. Should people be interested in more pictures or should anyone feel obliged to provide useful criticism and comments, please feel free to do so! Anything you might have to say will be greatly appreciated. First of all: Colette Du Bois, Mistress of Magic... and her Crew of femmes fatalles: And here's Hamelin with his entourage of blighted vermin, human or rodent: For the Arcanists I have Mei Feng and the Rail Crew sitting on the bench. Hamelin's ranks have been joined by three Crooligans, the Avatar of Contagion and Killjoy. All but the latter are painted, and I might add pictures later on. I hope this worked, I haven't uploaded anything here yet..

This one, and the male Gunsmith, were painted with dark skin and white hair to try and tie them together on a familial level. A father and daughter team, of sorts.

The wings are from Microart Studios. I didn't like the weedy-looking ones from the standard model, as I wanted something to make it look like it could actually carry her aloft. The base is mostly plasticard and greenstuff, with the smelting pot being one of the drums from a Warhammer kit.
  12. Well here we go Theese are my painted crews in a varying degree of order. There will be more then 100 pictures in this thread before Im done posting this time so bear with me... Some of theese are still wip sadly as I got hooked on other games during the m2e beta and moved shortly thereafter so lost my regular opponents. Some of theese Im happy with some are horrible abominations of "I really want to put theese on the table tomorrow!". Hopefully you can tell them apart. Be aware Im not the greatest photographer. I made the misstake of posting too many pics at once it seems as noone can be asked to post a reply to my poor ressers. I have outcasts and neverborn aswell and if you want to see them i demand at least one response (maybe this hostage situation will come back to bite me in the end) Like em or hate em let me know, hell Ill take feelings of indifference aswell. First up are the ressers Seamus the cheerfull psychopath in ringmaster / foxhunting attire like the dapper gent he is How do I follow up? Avatar Totem or Henchman? Went with a greyish skin same as the book3 artwork. Put this one on the table before he was finished and he stayed on my painting table for a few months before i powered through it and "finished him" Sigh the first and second try didnt go to well.. how many pics can you post? 10 seems to be the limit but I wont reformat the first posts.
  13. I finally finished off painting my first Malifaux crew! I've had a lot of fun playing them so far, hopefully they'll play even better now that they have some paint on them! I hope you all like them!
