Alrighty, here's what my friend said:
- getting a 3D printer very well can become a hobby in its own right (not in an objectively bad way, more so you very well might get invested in finding files to print out across the internet
- make sure you have an area with good ventilation, not just because of smell (which shouldn't get too bad) but it can be potentially hazardous to be around it consistently in an area of poor ventilation
- finally, having a 3D printer truly has been good and fun for my friend, so honestly do go for it!
